Klinsmann is a talker. He will say anything that comes to mind that he thinks the general public will reasonable believe and like. Ex. The US is going to be playing samba style attacking football, and he puts out a team that is basically Greece 2004. (Not that I mind if it gets results in the future like Italy 1-0).

He probably just made that number up to make it sound good.

US players have gotten ZERO heat for this from the media. The media's mantra is, not big deal, the Olympics don't matter any way, just a glorified youth tournament. Comparing what the Mexican players deal with to our players is like saying the Taliban are under the same pressure from the US army as some African rebel group.

your own team = El Salvador

No offense, but the majority of the US soccer media doesn't give US Soccer any heat. Ever. They are nothing more than a glorified PR department.

    Cheerleaders and apologists.

I am offended. Not from what you've said, because for the fact that it is true.

Yup ,U.S. soccer journalist are more carefull when it comes to bashing their teams because of fear of fans or potential fans losing interest. They dont want the casual reader to lose interest because "US Soccer Sucks". Now, Mexico and the majority of the world dont have that problem.

Another issue is that US soccer can simply deny credentials to reporters they don't like and nobody will care.

Terrence Boyd might be a great prospect and all, but is he a spazzo? You decide.

"For us, it’s a nightmare right now because we’re the team that had the most quality in CONCACAF, in my opinion. It’s just a bad day for us, but we have to keep going. I’m proud of my team, and for the first time I really felt what it’s like to fight for your country."

in his defense, you kinda want players to think like that. he's a kid who's psyched to have found a spot in a national team program. i think we have a little more quality than they do, but i'd agree if he'd said "second-most" :D
an aside - i was pretty impressed with him. dude grabbed a brace and got sucker-punched and didn't even roll on the ground for five minutes. definitely like him and gyau above the rest.

That's not any kind of defense. It's still an ignorant comment based on what we've seen. And would you really want players to think like that? That kind of overconfidence is part of what did them in.

Looks like AgudeloForMVP and that john guy are frontrunners for spazzo of the year (they win the Spazzy). Last year's winner was definitely Wessoman.

i don't completely disagree, and i don't totally like his wording, but it's ok to think you have the best team, IMO.. their problem seemed to be not giving the other teams enough respect, and looking past the group stage.

BS, boyd is a total spazz. he should have gave credit to the teams that knocked them out then said we're not the best but want to be the best so we need to work hard. but nope, instead he spazzed out like klinsy and most nad fans.

Our problem was the back grouping of 5 defensive players were complete shit in every game including a shut out against Cuba. It wasn't so much about respect as just one end of the team doing this....

Of course Boyd would be an ass to say that on twitter.

I was watching the NBC broadcast of the game, and was wondering where in the hell did they get that number from? They must've repeated that figure at least 5-6 times through out the game. And almost always after a good play was made by our side.

FYI the Canadian broadcast made it seem like the team had been together for years as well.

They read it on the us soccer blog, so it has to be true, right?

It is amazing how obsessed the US is with Mexico. The federation, the media, the fans. I can only equate it to how the aggies are so obsessed with Texas.

If US want to improve and succeed, they should stop worrying about us and start worrying about the steps and strategies they need to do to improve. Getting happy over friendlies beating us is not going to get them no where with that mentality. They have a lot to improve and just beating us is not the answer. Good Luck Gringos.
