This isn't meant as wummery (I abhor that sort of thing - so don't start) but as a serious question that will be exercising many fans again). I'm particularly thinking of his very poor transfer signings - he's spent a loada cash but made some real bum deals. Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson are a case in point being mediocre players but signed for big money. He should have known that when he signed them. Henderson was living of one good game for England u21s and it has been clear for years that Downing isn't much cop at all. But enough of me - what do you lot think?
Eh, as they same rome wasn't built in a day and I guess kenny signed the players who he could identify as ones making some sort of impact I guess. Ultimately he was brought in to steady the ship and in my opinion he has done exactly that. To win silverware and be 7th as opposed to no silverware coming in from anywhere and be seventh, well he must be doing something positive as opposed to woy. We shall have to wait and see in his second season.
How exactly is it not intended as 'wummery'. You have decided that the only living manager who's won Englands top flight with 2 different teams is a clown. Liverpool have won their first silverware in 6 years. How does that make Kenny a clown. As Wenger will have been trophy-less for 8 seasons does he suddenly become a clown? I'm disappointed we are doing horrendously in the league in 7th place but we finished 6th a 7th the previous 2 seasons its not like he's inherited Barca and turned them shit. Besides he's called the King because of what he's achieved for Liverpool FC. I'm pretty sure all teams have given similar labels to players/managers who have achieved far less(except Taggert obv ).
He's a good manager, but far from a great one. He should be given another season at least. if by then, Liverpool are still outside the top four, give him the push.
I never saw him, but everyone thinks he was a great player. It's his second turn as manager and from what I gather he did a good, but not great, job in his first. He wouldn't be the first great player to be an average (or worse) manager in sports, and that includes club captains. Leading on the field or dressing room as a player is different than manageing. Different skill sets, one of which is being able to blend all of the pieces from the perspective of not only motivation, but from assemling and picking the players.. That just may not be in his personality.
Well first lets look at some FACHTS: 1) Damien Comolli, Director of football, has a larger role in player research and purchases than kenny dalglish does. I'm sure KD is briefed on who DC recommends to the board based on his extensive statistical analysis's , but from what I understood...DC and FSG were the main parties behind the new player acquisition spending spree they carried out this past summer. So Yes, dalglish carries some blame probably, but I would blame comolli more before kenny. 2) Yes, they over paid for their targets mainly Henderson and caroll (downing too, but he's older. adams as well). But they identified their targets who had wonderful seasons for their previous clubs and they took a decision. They decided to over pay for that precarious quality known as "potential" , and GET the players they WANTED before anyone else possibly gets involved and creates a bidding war. So in a way although it hasn't quite worked out yet for them..yet; Time is on their side and I respect them as a business/club for being BOLD in the transfer market and making moves. 3) Liverpool have been out of the CL for what...3 years now? It hasn't quite worked out for them since the Benitez/hicks/gillet fiasco..However, they have managed quite a few things: 1) They've signed some new larger sponsorship deals than ever before. more money is always good. 2) They've developed lucas leiva into a fantastic player. 3) They've won a trophy. 4) They've united the LFC fan base and improved the fan-player-club relationship which was terrible under the previous regime/experiments.. and Finally: Kenny dalglish had a 60% win ratio during his first spell as LFC manager all those years back. He was a fantastic player and manager for their club. He currently boasts a 49-50% win ration during his 2nd spell as manager. Give him time. He has won a trophy. He deserves their respect and that mean's giving him time to work out his team. Trust goes along way..
With Sunderland looking like they'll beat City they'll go ahead of Liverpool. Funny to think Steve Bruce got the chop because of shit results before Martin "Value For Money" O'Neil took over.
Liverpool look like they'll finish anywhere between 6th and 7th maybe but more likely 8th through 9th or 10. Now Reina is suspended 3 games (H to Villa, A to blackburn, and the FA cup semi v Everton) they could drop even more points. Mcleish should hand them the 3 pts, but I expect blackburn to test them heavily and Everton to probably win at wembley especially with Doni in goal). Seeing Dalglish on the pitch today barking orders screaming and then getting told to "piss off" by club captain SG MADE MY DAY!! So It has to be asked? Is a 6th - 10th place finish, plus the carling cup trophy, and NO champions league football YET AGAIN considered a good season for LFC? (FA cup semi yet to be played, so they still have a shot at winning a 2nd trophy FWIW) EDIT: IMO, they HAVE to win the FA cup in order to salvage their season. They could finish 12th but if they ended up with 2 trophies, it would buy KD and DC 6 more months at the least. However, fail to win the FA cup, and its probably curtains for Dalglish. lol
Kenny is taking a pasting on the phone-ins from fans - with the usual unfairness about whoever wasn't playing should have played even though when they do play fans ring in and say they shouldn't. A popular line is loads of youngsters should be given a chance particularly Sterling but he's been a disappointment for the reserves and youth team and is still only 17.
LFC fans seem to think that pacheco, suso, sterling, whoever else they can name are all going to be the next iniestas, xavis, ronaldos,etc,etc... They paid mega millions type money for carroll and henderson and look what they've got. Equally crap are downing, adam, and even suarez...although he is arguably talented he is very wasteful in front of goal and LFC problems is always lacking the proper support for that one great front man (suarez is good, just not enough good players around him) to efficiently operate. Looking at the table, LFC could finish as low as 12. teams 10-12 are only 3 points behind LFC. That is BAD. Again, only BOTH the carling cup & FA cup would buy dalglish and company 6 more months.
He's coming across as out of touch and, even as aa Man Utd fan, I find it all quite uncomfortable. I'm sure any Liverpool fan worth their salt will shudder at the thought of symathy coming their way from a United fan, but it's how I feel. Comparing him to Hodgson is to distort how he should be judged because both were subjected to two very different working environments. Hodgson had a lot less money to throw around, and two squabbling cowboy owners who made life unbearable for everyone at the club, by all accounts. Dalglish spent the best part of £57m in his first transfer window, and then a further £50m the following summer, almost all of which is looking like a complete waste of money. It's not even as though half of his buys are paying off at present. Adam has been woeful, Henderson thoroughly average, Downing feckless and Carroll has been inexplicably poor, the weekend being the latest in a long line of embarassingly inept displays. Even Suarez, after a number of promising displays last seasion, has turned into somethign of a curse around their neck. We won't go into the details of his spat with Evra, but his finishig is not as good as it initially seemed to be, upon signing for them. Skillful though he may be, he's not actually scored or assisted that many goals this season. When you have a midfield full of dross (in terms of form, not quality), supplying a forward line full of dross (ditto), it doesn't matter how good your defence is, you're going to suffer badly sooner or later. Queen Kenny and his team are now suffering. He needs to get that midfield operating as a unit, and the likes of Downing and Adam need to buck their idea's up, because a club of Liverpool stature deserves better than what they're producing.
Well with Liverpool apparently 36 points behind Man United (is that really true?) and on the worst run in the league since the Wright Brothers were trying to get their plane off the ground and the first Titanic hadn't sunk yet, they get another chance tonight against struggling Blackburn.
I see Roy Hodgson's West Brom are now just a point behind Liverpool following their win today at Anfield.
sorry for my bad english, kenny is a very good manager, but he is old style in the transfer market...everybody knows that english players are overpriced..you simply can't buy mata for as much money as downing, or even cabaye and ben arfa . liverpool must buy from france and spain and holland a lot and for cheap...try them sacrifice one season and then keep the bargains and sell the others...doing that for a couple of seasons will make liverpool worldclass again...
KK has been awful in some regards but winning the league cup and reaching the final against Chelsea in the FA cup basicly saved him amongst the fans. No one is happy with the league results but in the long run people will look back on this year and wonder why people whined because we got silverware. Something Wenger haven't achieved at Arsenal for a long time. No one remembers who finished fourth in a couple of years anyhow. For me the biggest let down is in the transfer market and the only thing that makes me a little bit happy is that we stole 50 million from Chelsea. Achieving top four might be more important in the long run but Kenny will get another shot at it next season. If the owners allow this is another story. What needs to happen is for us to start building our stadium otherwise we run the risk of falling further behind in the long run.
