Just a test feed using video from Televisa Deportes Network (TDN).

No handball on Univision Deportes Network when it launches.

Don't know whether UD2 will be 24/7 or will be turned on during overflow Liga Mexicana matches.

    ==

3 years ago, the idea that Univision would be interested in the U.S. TV rights to the English Premier League would have been preposterous and laughable.

One would have to be total idiot today to not believe that Univision will be serious bidder for the U.S. TV rights to the English Premier League when the auction takes place in August, especially after Univision lost out on La Liga to Al Jazeera.

    Why?

Mexico is that obsessed with the kid? I mean he is alright but is not even the best current Mexican player (imo dos Santos is) and hardly ever starts because of Welbeck.

Mexicans living in the U.S. currently has access to Manchester United every week and Chicharito plays nearly every match either as a starter or as a substitute.

The same cannot be said of the Gio dos Santos who seems to bounce around from one loan deal to another because he can't get playing time at Tottenham.

A satellite TV hobbyist was able to modify his DISH receiver into decoding channels that are in "test mode"

DISH subscribers will be able to watch Univision Deportes Network on April 7, starting no later than 5pm ET.

CONCACAF Champions League starting in August will move over to Univision Deportes Network.

MLS is staying on Galavision for the time being.

    --

Univision Deportes Network bid on U.S. rights to La Liga for 2012-2015 (its bid was believed to have been $75 million) but got blown away by beIN Sports USA (which bid at least $120 million, if not closer to $135 million.)

[GOLTV, Inc. paid $24 million for the U.S. rights to La Liga in 2006-2009 and renewed for the same amount for 2009-2012.]

One would have to expect that Univision Deportes Network will take a shot at the U.S. rights to the English Premier League for 2013-2016, perhaps as the 3rd partner in the FOX-ESPN alliance if FOX Deportes (and ESPN Deportes) were willing to let Univision Deportes Network have "1st pick in Spanish" for all 38 rounds (so that Man Utd will be on Univision Deportes Network every week.)

I estimate that a 3-way FOX-ESPN-Univision alliance would be capable of bidding up to $270 million.

That still might not be enough as beIN Sports USA is crazy enough to bid $300 million or possibly more (i.e. $330 million).

The Emir of Qatar wants to own the top "Deloitte Football Money League" brands in the U.S. and is armed "petro currency".

FOX and Univision are both saddled with debt and are armed with only projected future revenue.

On the contrary, TeleFutura can air more comedies, gossip shows, and non-Mexican telenovelas.

Galavision can simply relay more news programming from Televisa Canal 4 of Mexico City.

Univision wants to charge $1/subscriber each month for Univision Deportes Network. We are talking about $108 million for the rest of 2012 from DISH alone.

I am projecting over $800 million in subscriber fees (if not closer to $1 billion) for Univison Deportes Network by 2014.

MLS will be live on Galavision through the 2012 season. That was announced by MLS in January.

No more MLS on TeleFutura. MLS doesn't draw well enough to stay on a free-to-air network.

    Don't know yet about 2013 or 2014.

    --

Expect MLS to move to mun2 in 2015. Telemundo is finally serious about using mun2 to broadcast sports events in Spanish. The "Liga Mexicana in English on mun2" experiment in the spring of 2010 failed miserably.

I just don't see how Univision is going to get a dollar a cable customer for this new venture especially in "Fly Over USA" where there is little to no Hispanic population to speak of. I could see the Spanish Tier price going up a buck for customers that order that package or in cities that have a large Hispanic base. I don't see how the cable companies could justify in areas that don't have Hispanic populations passing on another dollar to their customers bill for a channel that is niche as this one is. If ESPN is only getting chump change w/limited penetration for Deportes what does Univison have that they can strong arm cable companies especially in areas with no Hispanic population to carry this new channel especially at a dollar per household?

Univision has telenovelas from Televisa, which account for nearly 80% prime time market share among Hispanics.

The telenovelas from Televisa give Univision leverage that neither Telemundo, FOX, nor ESPN can duplicate.

Univision wants $1/subscriber each month for placement of Univision Deportes Network in English-language expanded basic, up from the $0.05/subscriber each month for Galavision, because Univision Deportes Network will have the entire Saturday night Liga Mexicana tripleheader block every week (with "1st pick" matches) plus Friday night matches every other week.

The #1 club soccer brand on U.S. television regardless of language, Chivas Guadalajara, will show up at least 12 times each season on the Univision networks (not as many as the 17 guaranteed appearances on Telemundo, but enough.)

Remember that BTN is getting $1/subscriber each month within BIG TEN territory and the PAC 12 networks will get the same amount each month in PAC 12 territory. The content for those college sports networks are similar to what the live event content on Univision Deportes Network will be able to draw in terms of age demographics and purchasing power.

The Mexican population in the U.S. has dispersed. Every small town that has a meat packing plant, a poultry processing plant, or a resort (i.e. Las Vegas, Vail, Aspen) has significant Mexican immigrant population.

Cable TV systems in those towns need the Univision Networks in order to sell subscriptions, and Univision knows how to extract as much money as possible from the pay TV operators. If those pay TV operators don't want to pay, then Univision can put up billboards around town to tell customers to sign up for DISH instead.

Univision has updated its corporate website with an English-language promo video for the Univision Deportes Network, featuring Fernando "el Presidente" Fiore, Pablo Ramirez, and Marcelo Balboa.

    http://corporate.univision.com/media-brands/deportes-network/

Univision Deportes Network will replace FOX Deportes as the #1 Spanish-language sports TV network in the U.S. in terms of subscriber revenue the moment the new network launches:

Estimated subscriber fees in 2012 for U.S. Hispanic pay TV sports networks:

Univision Deportes Network - $108 million (assuming 12 million subscribers of DISH satellite TV's America's Top 200 English-language tier or above, at $1/subscriber/month for 9 months; will broadcast 100% in Spanish with English-language closed-captioning during most live soccer matches)

FOX Deportes - no more than $54 million (depending on how much DIRECTV will pay after removing 5 million English-language sports pack subscribers in January; FOX Deportes had 18 million subscribers as of December 2011 prior to losing its place on DIRECTV's English-language sports tier. FOX Deportes continues to offer English-language SAP during many live soccer match telecasts.)

GOLTV - about $23 million (assuming that GOLTV is able to retain its 9 million English-language sports pack subscribers, which is no longer a sure thing after losing U.S. media rights to La Liga after the 2011-2012 season; GOLTV has about 4 million Spanish-language subscribers and 90% of its advertising is in Spanish. Almost all programming on GOLTV is bilingual with English and Spanish audio.)

ESPN Deportes - about $11 million (based on 6 million subscribers total; broadcasts 100% in Spanish)
