    Well it's something I guess.

On a slightly related topic of the Canada-Cuba match, I was at the Walmart across from Skyline Medical Center on Dickerson Pike Sunday morning to buy Iphone screen covers and what did I see when I got to the electronics area? The Cuban Olympic soccer team! I guess they were loading up on capitalist consumer goods before they had to go back to the workers' paradise. It was probably a bad idea taking them there since one of them took a shine to it and didn't go back.

I wondered why if they were at that store. There aren't many hotels out there and the ones that are are along the lines of Motel 6. I suppose it's possible they might have been staying at one of those. Fidel may not have sprung for a nice hotel.

They were staying at the Renaissance downtown.

Hmm, well that's pretty nice. I guess that may just happen to be the closest Walmart to downtown.

Metros manage to get a scoreboard mention at the Olympic qualifiers directing us to the website and it's still stuck in 2011 mode.

This isn't about Lynn or Devinder. When I reached out to them over the winter with concerns I had about the on and off the pitch direction of the club they told me to talk to Martin Maciel. I tried that via e-mail and in person at the club office but still haven't heard boo. IMO the problem is strictly Martin. He is treating the club as some kind of business tax loss or as a showcase for his own sons in the side.

I'd just like the club to at least make a passing attempt to care about what few supporters it has. At least I won't have as far to drive to get to matches this season if I decide to stick with the club.

I realize it is flogging a deceased equine, but it is one month before the season starts and 38 days until the home opener and the website remains unchanged.

And it looks like the home games will be split between the two parks. Might be a good idea to let people know. Well that is only if they want people to, you know, show up.

    at E.S. Rose Park:
    05/19 v. Carolina
    05/27 v. Real Maryland
    07/05 v. West Virginia
    07/07 v. Virginia Beach
    07/15 v. Fredericksburg

    at Ezell Park:
    05/25 v. Southern WV
    06/30 v. Northern Virginia
    07/13 v. Palmetto FC

Quite the Murderer's Row. Again, hard to get excited about "Real Maryland" and "Southern WV". Pity we couldn't move from the PDL to the NPSL and have a crack at Chattanooga, Knoxville and Huntsville. Oh, wait, that kind of move might have hurt out chances of advancing to a higher level of the USSF pyramid. Like having to deal with current ownership's lack of attention to the club isn't going to hurt those chances anyway!

Current ownership/management is first and foremost the biggest hinderance to moving up the pyramid no doubt. Leaving the USL for NPSL would only affect it if the plan was to go to third division USL Pro. If they wanted to return to second division, the NASL is not part of the USL and wouldn't care. But there is no way they would meet minimum stadium standards for Division 2. I don't know if there are minimums for Division 3, but I doubt they could satisfy them either.

The odds that the club eventually folds are much higher than the odds they move up a division or two.

I would feel the worst for Lynn and Devinder having to watch something they built and nourished through some decidedly lean years meet such an ignominious end. The club has folded and been resurrected/re-branded before, but I sure don't sense a groundswell of support for that to happen this time around.

Where are the local football enthusiasts who would want to be the next generation of ownership if it came to that? Cold, hard investment cash is the start, but passion to build something for today and a legacy for future generations is the key.

Here's hoping it doesn't come to all of that and current ownership will wake up and realize the season is a little more than a month away. Either that, or just let those seeming few of us who still care know that we can go ahead and make alternative plans for match days. Are you listening Martin?

Yikes, just saw the schedule over at uslsoccer.com. 6 away games in a row followed by 5 home games to end the season? Those away games are going to hurt team morale and those home games are going to hurt attendance. Probably no way to avoid it when they drew up the schedule but that's still no good. Oh well...

Well. Color me speechless. Obviously a work in progress, so I'll refrain from pointed barbs at this time other than to question the use of the photo of the Chicago skyline in the header.

Come on, guys, show us something meaningful. And soon. Real soon.

WOW.... I am sure in 7 or 8 months they will get the website finished!

Can anybody DM any phone numbers from the Metros hierachy.

"Hierarchy"? Surely you jest! Lynn Agee and Devinder Sandhu are in the book under their respective businesses, and they were responsive to me via e-mail over the winter, but with the advice that I needed to take my concerns to Martin Maciel. As for Martin? Not responsive at all. Same thing a couple of months ago with me trying in person at the club to contact Desmond Armstrong.

Okay, I don't want to constantly sound negatively critical, but the website design was not what was lacking. It was content. If that's going to be the new website, I'm not impressed. There is nothing wrong with the old one other than the fact that it is rarely current.

The crest probably needed upgrading, but to that? Good grief!

Martin came on board just as I was on my way out of the Metros. I've not been overly impressed. Say what you will about how Lynn and Devinder ran things on a shoestring budget, but at least they cared deeply about the club and what it represented. I do not get the impression that the current regime headed by Martin gives much of a damn.

This isn't a positive or a negative (I guess) but the new logo is very Sounders-esque: tall shield, stylized silhouette of a city building, vivid color scheme, small city name with bold nickname. As for critiquing it...purple? Yuck! Why not some colors that mean something to the city or state? Hopefully we're not jumping the gun and there's an explanation of the details. As for the rest of it, it definitely feels like a minor league club's logo but not in a bad way. There are certainly worse!

And yes, website's grade will ultimately be determined by content and not design. Really if you compare old with new, its just a layout and color change and not much else.

But in the end, isn't it now fun to criticize them on their action instead of their inaction?! ;)

Does anyone know why so many of the games are at Rose Park this year? Are they working on Ezell Park? Do they want to play closer to downtown? Or does it just come down to the fact that the Ezell Park pitch is in such bad shape?

Rose Park will definitely makes the team look more professional.

Also, does anyone have any clues as to were the new sponsorship money is going? I've heard that they are trying to get the an academy going. Is this true?

I think all games at are Rose Park, and I think its because Ezell needs some work to bring it back up to speed.

When the bank sponsorship was signed, I think they said the money was going back into the facilities. Other than that, it's of course all a mystery.

Okay, well brand new to Bigsoccer, so I can't start a new thread for the 2012 season, but just a few updates from the Metros.

As you have seen, we have a new logo, much more dynamic, and it brings in our famous Batman Building.

New website - hopefully over the weekend the updates will occur and we will do our best to be creative on the site.

Schedule - that's part of the updates.

New GM - Former US national team player, and US Soccer Hall of Famer - Desmond Armstrong is now steering the Metros.

New Technical Director/Head Coach - Brent Goulet. Goulet is possibly the only American that has the German Pro Coaching badge.

More updates as they come, and hopefully I can start a new thread very soon.

    Welcome aboard.

Does the new guard at Metros have any designs on a return to the pro ranks?
