Would like to thank Deron for all he did moderating this place over last few years. Hope to continue to see your well thought out posts to offset us who shoot from the hip.
I guess the U-23's have provided another lesson in how difficult it it to convert to the magical 4-3-3. I thought they looked really good heading into the tourney, too. Though it does seem backline and goalkeeping problems were as much a part of the problem. Not sure if there are others, but I think two of the Salvadoran scorers play for Metapan.
Seriously. Talk about a punch in the gut. Edit: I hope Sean Johnson doesn't get booed Sunday (would enough Rapids fans even be aware what happened?). He was hardly the only thing that went wrong, but when boo-boo the last play, everyone notices.
Um, why not? Sunday isn't about the Nats, its about MLS and if the Terraces can get into Johnson's head by booing him then they should. I'm not saying he's solely to blame for the loss, but I don't see any reason to ease up on him either. Its not like he carries no blame.
I'm not saying any means necessary, but I was under the (perhaps mistaken) impression that the opposing keeper gets a lot of booing and heckling from the Terraces when he's at that end. Why wouldn't the Terraces continue to do that just because the U23s failed to qualify, partially due to Sean Johnson's bad goalkeeping?
Kind of a club v. country debate, but I wouldn't increase the heckling, put any extra passion into it, or have any specific chants or anything directed towards him because of his U-23 performance because I support the US and want to support those players in that context. So, I would just treat him like any other keeper not named Nick Rimando. (he gets extra for being a douche) Now if i didn't care about the US teams at all though, well then it would it would be fair game.
Well, for starters I said "I hope." I have no illusions about what the terraces or the rest of the stadium will actually do. As for my personal reasons, it's because I also root for Johnson (as a Nat), because that was no ordinary loss, and because I feel bad for him and everyone who got gutpunched by that loss, and don't think that making him feel worse is going to help that. Normal game razzing would be a different thing.
OK, that's where I got confused. I thought you were saying that the Terraces should give him crap for being the opposing keeper to support him after the disaster of last night. He's still the opposing keeper and should be treated as such.
Yeah, if it got completely quiet on a goal kick, or if everyone yelled "You can do it, Sean! We believe in you!" that would probably be even worse.

Ha ha, should have known! Sorry, I thought it was new, I was on the Fire site since they're coming to town.
Who's Chuck Murphy of the Denver Post soccer page? Was U.S. soccer’s Nashville nightmare the product of a coddling system?
No LOL or emoticon can express how much this just made me laugh/smile Oh my that would be painful. I don't support doing this because it hurts too much from the US fan perspective in me, but MAN is the idea HILARIOUS!
