Does anybody still think is Matsumoto is way better than Machida?;)

Machida with one HORRIBLE match against Ehime, but after that they have played 3 very impressive games, and gotten 2 wins out of it ( could easily have won against Avispa as well).

Matsumoto have one decent game (their 1-0 win vs Giravanz), and 2 semi-decent ones against Montedio and Verdy before being hammered by Ehime in their last match.

Machida have met weaker opposition than Matsumoto though in total, and Matsumoto can still improve, but I think Machida plays a much more interesting style of football atleast so far. But interesting football doesnt always lead to points, so I'm not saying I'm sure that Machida will do better than Matsumoto this season, but among the two Machida looks by far the best team after 4 played matches.

This is the most pertinent point.

Given they've face weaker opposition, and there's only been 4 games played, I'm not sure how anyone can say "by far". I wouldn't be surprised if Ossie has them playing better football, but it's too early to tell.

Well, Machida met a "strong" team as well in Avispa, and deserved to win that, while Matsumoto looked out of depth both against Verdy and Montedio. They beat Giravanz, but based on Giravanz's performances so far they doesnt look like an upper-half team this season.

Perhaps I should put more weight on Machida's loss against Ehime, when as I said they were totally crap, but based on how they have done it in the other matches it seems more as it was nerves about their first ever J2-game / J2-level shock or other reasons that were why they struggled so much.

So yes, I think Machida have by far been the most impressive among the two newly-promoted teams so far. Except for MAtsumoto having 13 500 on their first home-game ( they only had 4300 on their 2nd) there havent really been that much to be impressed by with them.

But as I said, its early in the season and anything can happen still, but the general tone in here and perhaps even more among the Japanese press was that Matsumoto was a MUCH better team than Machida ( atleast that's how I remember it), but that hasnt really been the case so far. With Machida having brought in an Argentinian midfielder as well as one more player recently Machida could very well stay above Matsumoto as well.

I can't find that impression based on those pre-season expectations.

 FC Tokyo without promotion & Verdy going to JFL! But Tottori in play-offs!

    ***

Let's just wait 'till September with evaluating anyone. That means Serrao and Gamba also.

Ah yeah, I stand corrected at this one atleast. Machida with an average prediction of 19,6, while Matsumoto got 19,0, so there isnt that much difference.

But I still fell that the general image being more positive about Matsumoto than of Machida. But perhaps I'm mixing it up with Matsumoto getting more media-attention prior to this season than what were the case of Machida.

anyway, u're right, anything can happen still=)

Remember that in JFL Zelvia were top contenders and only stadium issues held them at bay for last year -- while Yamaga struggled a lot with top-4 finish that happened under very suspicious circumstances.

So it's not actually a big surprize.

Avispa were very good in spells today.

Worth watching the highlights show for Sakata's 2nd (a backheeled volley), and Sueyoshi's volley which is the best goal ve seen so far this season.

King Kazu came in as a sub at the ripe age of 45 when Yokohama F.C. were down 0-2

Shows you how much they're taking the league seriously

Keep an eye on Daiki Watari at Giravanz Kitakyushu.

Only 18 and has already scored 2 goals in 2 starts

    Could be this years' Kubo.

Watched the game, didn't know him, true that he looked good.
Also good to see that Atsutaka Nakamura has really figured it out, he could be a big player for the future. He has everything, the dribble, the finesse, the speed, the passing, the class, and playing volante helps him improve his Arsenal.

Yes theres no doubt Matsumoto stories sells, they are a cinderella club (and a real football club)

btw what suspicious circumstances??? The ghost of Matsuda?

Kazu means money for YFC so they are deadly serious. Think about it we are talking about him coming in..... we wouldnt have discussed YFC if it wasnt for Kazu. :D

And to be fair, at least he PLAYS. It's not like we're talking about Gon Nakayama, who is worth more in publicity and endorsements than it costs Sapporo to occasionally toss him onto the bench when his hip isn't acting up.

Well . . . if you can call that "playing".

To be honest, I really have to wonder how the guy can keep embarrassing himself like that, and not be consumed by intense personal shame. He is definitely in great shape for a 45-year-old, but in the 5-6 minutes he was on the pitch, he lost the ball every time it came to him. As the 90 minute approached he managed to connect on a pass just outside the Ventforet box, and the announcers acted like they were watching Pele and Maradona playing one-on-one.

"Sugoi! 45-sai nan te . . . . bokura wa atama wo sageru shika nai"

. . . . At which point I started screaming at the TV: "Why do you have to lower your head? Is it because you cant stand to watch such a farce, and have to avert your eyes?!!"

Yamaga has struggled during the season, and three rounds prior the end of the competition they were one point behind V-Varen, having played one game more -- i.e., four points behind if we count lost ones.

So to secure promotion they needed not just to win both their home and away games against Lock (manageable), but they also needed V-Varen to grab no more than one point, so the difference before the last round would be 4 pts.

Guess what? V-Varen -- who were in excellent form, having won four previous matches with 13-3 goal difference -- has collapsed mysteriously, managing only a draw from two clashes with Tochigi Uva. What a happy coincidence, isn't it?

I was at Nagasaki's last game in Tochigi. I guarantee it wasn't thrown, unless the forwards had such pinpoint accuracy to hit the crossbar 3 times for show.

artml beware of what you are saying. You are saying that the club is corrupt. Its very serious accusations you are coming with. In principle theres nothing wrong to be a little lucky and get promoted in football thats just a important part of the game, and I believe one of the reasons why we call it the beautifull game.

Couldnt be said better, but you know Japanese has a tendency to bow their head for something they consider superior (but yes he isnt at all).

Please don't get me wrong. I'm not accusing anyone. I just explain my suspicions that are based on the very strange twist in the results. And the final outcome, too, that appeared to please everyone involved -- the club, the JFL and the J. League -- and seems a little too good to be true.

But since I haven't even seen the games, my thoughts can't be proven. And of course I do realize that even stranger things have happened naturally, without any interference and fixing.

And since Vendo said he didn't perceive the 4-0 loss in Tochigi as fixed, I'm more than satisfied with that.

I'm at the athletics stadium in Kagoshima for Kyoto Sanga vs. Avispa Fukuoka, and unless a couple of full trains turn up in the next hour there will be well under 1000 attendance.

Nice to lie on a bank in the Sun, but it seems people of Kagoshima are not very interested, not sure what the point of this was.

The stadium did fill up just before kick-off.

We're leading 2-1 somehow, Kyoto have been passing it around us and Kamiyama did a few saves which looked pretty unlikely, then we scored on the two times we got it near the Kyoto goal.
