I'd be very surprised if Andy decided to spend any sponsorship money on a DP. That Quaker-cash could be his first ever profit margin, which is the only thing he wants from the team he bought.

If all you're after is profit, buying an MLS franchise is a pretty stupid way to go about it. It seems more likely that making a profit is NOT the reason he bought this team, and that you're just being a negative nancy.

I wish we could get Drogba. He's been playing inconsistent in the EPL, time for a scenic change to Chicago!!!

One of these things is expensive and high maintenance.

    The other is a pony

I wouldn't do it. The year may be profitable because of the jersey sponsor money, but he will still lack a ROI on the amount spent on the actual sale. I have no idea how many more profitable years he or any other owner of the Fire would have to have in order to have profited a cent.
    I couldn't justify DP money.

I had called a press conference for Noon today to announce that I had tendered a very attractive offer to Andrew to buy the Fire.

Unfortunately, my financing through Mega Millions fell through.

I think Drogba is 5 million a year guy, I think we're ready to pay 2 million.

Maybe in China or the UAE. I don't think he would command that much if he wants to stay in Europe. I would pay him 2 mil a year to play here, but I'd want it to be year by year with a club option and I don't think he would go for that.

Okay. If he didn't buy the team to make a profit, why did he buy it? That sounds like a good question for someone to ask him at the Town Hall. It's not like he is some home-town guy who dreamed of owning the Fire since he was a kid.
Think back to when he bought the team. We had Blanco. Jersey sales and ticket sales (albeit not season tickets) were through the roof. I stand by my assertion that he expected at some point to turn a profit.

The way he would make a profit is by selling on at a later date, not by running in the black each year. Reports say that he bought the club for $35 million 5 years ago, and now MLS is expecting $75-100 million for the next expansion team.

I wouldn't buy a team that continues to lose money and ticket buyers each year. So what you are saying is that a team *that doesn't even exist yet* is worth far more money than the Fire? LOL

There's more to owning an MLS franchise than just the profit/loss for the club. In fact, the "owner" only owns 49% of the club, along with a share of the league and SUM. The league owns 51% of each franchise, IIRC.

I don't think anyone would argue that a share in MLS isn't worth more now than it was when Andrew bought in.

DP as in "double penetration"? Yup, that's the owners view us lot.
