The Lexington PD and the federal agents were providing some serious meta-commentary, right?

I hope Wynn Duffy survives this season, the scenes with him and Raylan are just too good.

I also love the look on Duffy's face whenever Quarles says or does something that forces Wynn to realize just how crazy and dangerous his boss is. :)

I have a general problem with stories where we know what's going on and the main character doesn't, so I wasn't loving this episode at first, but after that scene, all is forgiven!

Yeah that was a good episode. Duffy regaining a little traction after having been knocked off stride by Quarles makes sense, and is one of the reasons people telling me (a few posts back) to have faith in the writers' plans for Raylan's character also makes sense.

The unfolding break-up with Winona is well done, too.

Fun Facts to Know and Tell:

Max Perlich is playing the sad sack Sammy Tonin this season (the son of Mr. Quarles' boss, the Detroit mobster who's yet to be seen).

I would see him a lot at gigs in LA back in my previous life. After he appeared in Drugstore Cowboy, he showed up one night at this blues club driving this amazing 1940s Mercury. He's actually pictured in the car here in the Beastie Boys liner notes collage for Check Your Head (#9).

I think he's since expanded his car collection. He has excellent taste.

I can't believe it took me so long to recognize that Raylan's fellow marshall Gutterson first came to fame in Eurotrip:

What I learned from last night's episode: If at all possible, avoid doing business with guys who can blow you up accidently...after they're dead.

That was such a great scene.

Man, Eastern Kentucky is full of a bunch of low lifes.

Quarles is just a disturbing character.

And another actor from Band of Brothers was in the show.

When Quarles went off on the kid who had the gun on him in the trailer, it was great acting. I don't know why Duffy has hitched his trailer to this guy.

I'm not sure where they are going with Raylon at the moment. He seems to drifting in the wind.

Is Win the only person in the show that Quarles hasn't actively tried to kill? If so, that would explain it.

    Re: Justified on FX

I asked my wife the exact same question. She posited their business interests are intertwined -- which I guess is true. Especially as Quarles was about to be running the Sheriff's office, so the prescription drug operation I suppose would have taken off.

But it is confusing -- with Winn ostensibly still part of the Detroit operation (? is that right? ) -- and Quarles apparently cut off from Detroit, per the measly son character. And Duffy is being cast more and more as the rational observer -- which is funny considered his whacked out no-holds-barred criminal identity he held last season.

    Also:
Still really not down with the torture scenarios. And it's not a gay thing.
It's my own issue, as I hate things like those Saw or Hostel films. People tied up and abused and slowly killed just stretches my personal limits.

I know it's a fine line, as I could probably point to infinite examples of similar pieces of entertainment I enjoy -- 24, Apocalypse Now, Spartacus, etc.

The "two milkshakes" scene was flat out wonderful. There used to be a lot more humor in the show and I had not realized how scarce it had gotten until that and Art's line ("the next time you tell me you're no good at something I'm gonna believe you") after the hearing.

I thought Winn was part of the Frankfort Mafia. Wasn't his boss the guy that Quarles killed early on?

Winn's part of no gang really-he's a "freelance security consultant".

Yeah, I have the same issue to a certain extent, but it provides a certain rawness that doesn't come across in most TV shows (don't know why it's OK in movies, but not TV).

Plus, they never show any torture, they leave it up to your imagination. Maybe that's the problem. You have too good of an imagination!

It's that Hitchcock thing. The scariest thing in cinema is the horror that you don't see.

I read this, then I saw your Big Soccer screen name. I chuckled.

    :)

Raylan really likes the blondes, don't he? :D

I kind of wonder if Win doesn't turn on Quarles before the season's over (one episode left?). He seems to be growing more and more concerned about Quarles' erratic behavior.
