Very cool - I'm a big fan of Sapong and think his ceiling is actually higher than the more-hyped Bunbury. Not to beat a dead horse but it was really too bad this wasn't done with Larentowicz - a midfield with Benny/SJ/Larentowicz/Rowe would have been unstoppable.
There are other, local kids who were allowed to slip away as well. I find myself thinking about Sheannon Williams, Geoff Cameron, Ryan Johnson - I'm sure there are others. Williams even trained with Nicol, and I'm guessing could have been induced to stay.
Haha yep he was horrible with City 4-5 years ago, can't imagine that's changed now that he's 35. The only thing he can do remotely well is heading so if they plan on playing like the Dynamo then he might not be completely terrible.
For me, those are the guys that hurt. This team has missed on some real good players who came out of its backyard.
While the Revs refuse to announce how much $$ they're actually getting from United Health Care (embarrassed?), the Fire pick up a huge $8m deal, and now ... LA signs a 10 year $44m deal with Herbalife to continue as their sponsor.
>55k expected in Olympic Stadium today for l'Impact debut. Although it appears only 7.6k season tickets sold. Many many pages in The Monteal Journal.
Montreal comes out with the Quebecois flag rather than Canadian during opening anthems. That will bring them some publicity.
Corradi may be as ineffective as a lone Bishop..but when our counter is a lone Brettschneiderian pawn....
Both of those teams suck. Watching Houston right now, they sucks too. The East is pretty bad. All this talk about improvement in the East seems overblown to me.
Colorado becomes the fifth team this season to go to 2-0, with a 2-1 win on the road at Philly, scoring the winning goal down a man (Larentowicz) to take a 2-0 lead, and held on to drop Philly to 0-2. 2 weeks into the season, the Revs are in last place in the league with a -4.
LA's 3-0 win over DC makes the East 2-9 against the West so far this year. And both those wins were by Houston on the road.
Idk man I took a look at the schedule today and talk about sending Heaps into a gun fight with a knife. We have a home game with Portland that's arguably somewhat winnable but then we have this: LA away Dallas away DC home (their offense will be quite good this year) New York away (with Conde and Marquez) Colorado home RSL away I dont know about you guys but I dont predict too many points being picked up in the next 2 months
---thats why I'm saying were going to be in preseason (no points) till mid season IMO the best way to follow the 2012 Revs season is with a good sense of humor or a case of Jamersons or both.
Well if we had an actual competitive roster assembled before the season started we'd have a fighting chance. That's what pisses off so many people Doc.
The only other team I can think of who hasn't had pretty much all their players ready to go is Portland with Hanyer Mosquera, but they just narrowly missed the deadline for the visa to get him in for the home opener. He played the next week. FC Dallas were able to snag that Colombian striker last minute because they added Fernando Clavijo into their front office late on, but he's already in Dallas and already played with the reserves and met the team and staff. We're having a flurry of trialists sign late on with varying availability statuses when most were with us early in the offseason, we have Lechner who supposedly can't even come until April while we're currently having a backlie crisis, and we have no idea what's going on with Moreno. And burns recently hinted maybe they would sign some impact player over the summer. maybe. It's completely amateur Doc, I can't grasp how you readily accept it every single year. What successful soccer or sports team in general do you know of that doesn't get at least most it's new players signed in the offseason acclimated with the new location, teammates, staff, philosophy, tactics, etc. ? It's like starting a race with one of your legs asleep. Sure you get to full strength eventually and start to really get going, but at that point you're so far behind it doesn't even matter anymore.
