I knew all those cept for San Jose. I just naturally assumed because of the low capacity stadium that attendance had a lot more potential.

Plus I did not say Chivas had the worst attendance. I said they are one of the worsts, well actually not worse but more lower central half. Not to bad but needs improvement.

What area of LA do you think they will move to. Anaheim?

I still say San Diego would work for them.

It's not a discussion about travelling to a game, but of travelling partners.

If you are connected, good for you.

It doesn't mean you are the end all be all of expansion ideas.

And yes, New Orleans, Albuquerque and El Paso are all in the general area, especially in the context of teams from the east coast.

Because they are not mutually exclusive.

The Xolos know that a strong SD team will build soccer and raise its profile. I think they know that MLS wont be happening anytime soon so soccer fans yearning for Divison 1 can rally to the Xolo banner while still supporting a NASL/USL-Pro team.

There is a rumor that a party is looking to approach the State about funding a team and playing in the newly renovated IUPUI stadium. Again just a rumor, but an interesting one.

Kuntz will be set to either get a face lift or be sold with those high end condos/apts going in across the street at Bush Stadium.

    Re: 4 Rumored Cities

on the rumor, i am assuming they mean the Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium...Not sure though. If it is, i'm not sold on the venue as a whole when it comes to atmosphere. I'd much rather see Kuntz get renovated if possible.

There are 2 fields at Kuntz isnt there? Havent been there since the Blast were playing. Rotating it would be out of the question as the field would be East to West and that makes for a poor surface to play on

Why, because its next to Mexico? While it is getting browner, San Diego has been less Mexican than Los Angeles for years. It's not El Paso West, it's Orange County but with trains.

In the NASL podcast on IM Soccer News the Commissioner talked about expansion and shared some interesting information:
    1. Best case scenario the league could have 12 teams next year
    2. They are at different stages with certain groups, he said one of them is a done deal that he can't announce
    3. They want to have 16 teams by 2016 and 20 by 2020

SD isn't even close to being Orange County and the only trains there are on the coast (trolley doesn't count as it only services the I-8 corridor).

I agree though. CUSA won't move there, SD has tried to woo them many times to no avail. Vegara seems to hate us :p

To answer Arsenalkids question on where CUSA might move:

Somewhere in Riverside County (I believe West Covina or there abouts has been discussed).

I'm thinking the new team could be Cosmos or a team from USLPro, when you think about it has to be a team that already has the infrastructure to be ready for play in a year.

    Re: 4 Rumored Cities

The Goal Blog at the NYT just ran a piece about stadium solutions in MLS which might have some bearing on the discussion. Apparently MLS are much more involved in the stadium process for NY2/Cosmos than anyone thought--they've totally taken the wheel, and they want to hand over the plans to a prospective owner when they pick one.

Now that could be either very good or very bad for the NASL's chances to get the Cosmos. On the one hand, we could say, "Well, MLS has pretty much got them in the bag, and they'll be moving up anyway." On the other hand, it could be that a couple seasons of NASL play could help the group prepare to hit the ground running in MLS while they wait for the stadium to be rebuilt.

The real take-away for me is that we should not expect the Cosmos to be in NASL in five years' time, regardless of whether they are in one or two.

But there are a lot of possibilities out there. I doubt MLS is going to make NY2 happen without the Cosmos name, but Don Garber is seeing red right now, and I wouldn't put anything past him at this point.

Most of those states don't have markets large enough to sustain a top-level professional team. USSF standards require 75% of D2 teams be located in markets with metropolitan populations of 750,000 or more. Several of those states don't even have cities with a metro population of 500,000.

    Re: 4 Rumored Cities

Really? I long ago tired of rebutting your asinine posts, but you do realize that the 'friendly' they played was a glorified pick up game? The Cosmos has no more club infrastructure than the Tulsa Roughnecks, the Memphis Rogues, or the Calgary Boomers. At this point, they are just wishful thinking. A marketing concept. Nothing else.

Yeah, WSW, I've gotta hope that you're joking.

There is no way that anyone could seriously count that game as a "friendly" against Man U. (1) For starters, it was a charity tribute game, (2) in which no Cosmos players played, (3) because the Cosmos have no players, (4) and were thus forced to dress up other teams' players in their gear -- (5) gear which only exists to make money for the nostalgia machine that the Cosmos have become. And oh, by the way, (6) the game was played while the team were under different ownership (7) because their former owner couldn't pay his bills, (8) and was soon forced to sell his much-sought-after and heralded American brand to a group of foreign investors.

Whether MLS wants to get in bed with those investors is a WHOLE other story, or whether they coul possibly afford to buy (or court someone else who could buy) the trademarks back is an even more uncertain question.

A random group of players, most of whom were either retired or under contract to other clubs, played a friendly wearing Cosmos jerseys.

If that's "they", than sure. I'm sure Brad Friedel will look back fondly only his day with the Cosmos during his future Hall of Fame Induction speech.
