Sure, why not Then again Tokyo is hardly the first J-League team to put a dozen shots on goal and not have any go in. Hell, if you were going to discuss records for futility, look at our match against Omiya in '10 when we had a 2-man advantage, put up 30+ shots, and still barely won. And while I'm pretty sure there was a match last season when the ball seemed almost magnetically attracted to the posts, it takes intent to actually type such a figure and hit 'publish.' We all know Matsu has been around for far longer than any of us, and at this point he's like the occasionally-grouchy grandfather who's more than willing to tell you about his experiences in the war. Except eventually the facts blur together and he's fighting against Rommel's elite Japanese shock troops on the Eastern front, or something along those lines. And then we all joke about it and Grampa drinks a bit more and maybe yells at the cat. Then a year later the cycle continues
Mea Culpa - and also a bit of a complaint/request: When someone tries - in the space of just a day or two - to type out a 28,000 word article (actually the word count that MS Word gives me is 28,145 - check it yourself for accuracy) they tend to forget which things they wrote down quickly and intended to go back and check later. I recalled a Tokyo-Tochigi game in the summer in which the events I mentioned did indeed happen. But since I didnt recall Tokyo scoring, I just opened the Meikan, found the 0-0 result and jotted down the date, intending to check later. The match I was referring to was the one in Tochigi, and had I had even a bit more time to check, I would have noted that the one which finished 0-0 was the one that Tokyo played at Home. The one in Tochigi finished 2-1 to Tochigi, when Tokyo had 22 shots on net. I made a very serious and unpardonable mistake in trying to put up a 28,000 word article that I had not fully edited and fact-checked. If I had just taken the time to do that . . . . . well . . . . it probably would have gone up on my site some time in May or June. But if "proving Matsu wrong" is what you all are so eager to do, then yes. I messed up. The actual date should have been August 21. Ive corrected the article now. As for the request: If youve got something to say to me, say it to my face. I may be a "grouchy grandpa" but I think past history has demonstrated beyond any doubt that Im more than willing to admit when Im wrong. If you are making the query about the shots on woodwork because you really do want to check accuracy, the best person to ask is . . . . EXACTLY On the other hand, if you are making the comments because you enjoy trying to make other people look bad, do it somewhere that I dont visit frequently. I am already well aware that people love to talk behind my back. But for goodness sake, at least have the decency to actually do it behind my back
Wow man. You are soooooo cool. You really put him in his place Ill bet all the other 6th graders are really jealous of you.
Was genuinely wondering and looking for that game and thought the quickest way to get me an answer was this thread. So the next question would be, could anyone find me this summer game where the woodwork was often tested? (I mean I found something on Youtube, but cant find the woodwork action) Also I am really grateful for Rinsing Sun and Matsu for that matter, for me his work is amazing and it was he who got me interested in J-League and now I am spreading the word here in my own country, doing a Seminar Work at my Uni about it and so on. By the way Matsu, I have some free time now, so I will contact you again about with what I can help you with
I'm gonna watch the game now so will report back soon. Im gonna watch 2 other recorded games now anyway, so no harm in adding a 3rd! if nothing else, it will give me some useful information about the two teams ahead of this weekend's matches. Edit: The recording is corrupt, so I only got the 2nd half :/ But half-time stats is 9 shots to Tokyo, and in the highlight-reel at half-time there were 4 big chances for them, but none that hit the woodwork.......... Edit: Seems most of the 2nd half is corrupt as well...so I only got picture from the first 10 minutes or so. But anyway, based on that Tokyo were by far the better team and the chances they had in the first half were pretty big too. So if Matsu's point was to prove that Tokyo are terrible at finishing, then I will back him up, but its hard to see where all those woodwork shots come from ( unless they are from the final 35 mins). There was another Tochigi-Tokyo match in October though.
@nipponbasse83 thank you for checking the thing, I really appreciate it. So F.C. Tokyo was never involved in a match where they would hit woodwork on numerous occasions?
http://www.youtube.com/user/absbdinMXTV Check out all highlights from this channel and you'll know. I haven't heard about that but also I can't say I've seen everything.
I don't know, but it doesnt seem that this particular match was such a game though. But Tokyo weren't exactly the most effective team last season, so I'm not saying it couldnt have happened. I mean, its more than half a year ago since these matches were played, and it could very well be Matsu thought of another game when he wrote it. IF there is any other matches after August 1st u want to have checked I can do it though, given that the recordings are still ok.
17 minutes and Okubo scores the first goal of the season. Sloppy defence,Vissel running faster and better everywhere on the pitch...
Ghotbi looks like a salaryman You'd half expect to see him getting drunk after the game. Kennedy scores his first from the spot.
Paulinho! completely out of the blue.....1-1 still we are simply embarassing tactically and athletically
Half time Not many goals so far today. Only 3 goals in 6 games so far. 4 games are at 0-0 right now. Hopefully we'll see more in the 2nd half. I feel that Shimizu are unlucky to be down. Takagi and Omae are doing good work on the wings and are the main sources of offense for Shimizu.
Actually Gamba looked a bit better after Paulinho's goal. Still we are in bad shape. We aren't aggressive, when we are not in possession it looks like there is no plan to recapture the ball,or to do something, everyone is just covering their zone letting opponents do what they want, basically. When in possession everything is up to individuals. And the majority of our players look too slow... On the other side Vissel wasn't impressive at all. But at least they look coordinate, like a trained team.
Grampus with some early injury problems Both Tamada and Fujimoto are off with injuries. edit: Sato has broken the deadlock against Urawa. 1-0
Yeah, Hisato just scored. Whole team witch archer celebration after the well deserved goal. Edit: Despotovic made more in one minute than Tatsuya. He touched the ball...
Vissel 1-2 Hideo Hashimoto from corner kick, assisted with the worst position defending i have ever seen from Hiroki Fujiharu
THAT I must see! (the celebration) I kind of expected most of the results save for Sanfrecce but was still negatively suprised hoped Kashima would draw and Jubilo and Cerezo would win. - Sagan and Consadole to be able to draw (how did Jubilo and Cerezo played btw?) - Kashima losing against Vegalta - Sanfrecce wining against Urawa - Nagoya wining is I guess expected - Gamba, I cant take them serious anymore after I saw this after the game Just woke up and saw 5 minutes of Sanfrecce game so waiting up for Kawasaki Frontale one
I think it was a pretty good first game for Consadole. Were overall the slighlty better team, and were closer to the win than Jubilo were. In front of an enthusiastic home-crowd of 25 000+ they managed to play their own game, and looked rock-solid defensively. About the new guys, North slotted in very nice in central defence, but Nara was even more impressive. To think that he's only 18 is hard to believe, with the authority he shows as well as his physical strength. Everyone who saw him in J2 knew that already, but if he can perform like this in J1 as well I think we have a future Japan CB in him. Yamamoto did a decent enough job, nothing special, but I still have the impression that Miyazawa is a better option there. Up front MAeda showed some nice trickery at times, but it wasnt really that effective. I would much rather see Quirino and Uchimura together up there, as then they atleast have speed and can be a threat on counters. Overall I'm happy with how they played though, and they shouldn't fear the level of J1 too much if we base it on Jubilo's performance. They might struggle more away though. Cerezo also had a good game, or atleast the 2nd half. Sagan went out in a very high tempo in the first half, and had Cerezo under quite a lot of pressure at times, but Cerezo still looked the most likely team to score. Were much better after the break, and I think in 9/10 times they would have scored a goal in this match, so it should have been an away win. Sagan should still be happy with their J1-debut though.
Yes! It's so good to have the J-League back! Only managed to catch the Consadole-Jubilo game, and yeah Nara was impressive in his J1 debut. Glad to see North getting his opportunities, he's a very handy defender and experienced, he can help out Nara and Kushibiki. Urawa...new season...new manager...new faces...same result. I'm even more worried when Hamada and maybe N.Yamada go to London. Also noticed 17 year old Gakuto Notsuda was on the bench for Sanfrecce.
