Well done Esteghlal and amazing to see over 70,000 in attendance.

Just seeing the clips posted by Mani, great worked opening goal. Cleverly chipped equaliser but the 3rd goal? Long goalkeeper kick that just went and went, what was the Ettifaq defence doing??

Great atmosphere to a great game. Well done Esteghlal aswell after a tricky Pro League campaign recently which makes me think that preparing for these last two ACL games has cost Esteghlal the league title. Makes me wonder if playoffs are a good thing by the AFC? If the AFC want them, then expand them or kill them off altogether.

    lmao
Khiabani was all over that. I can't remember what he said but I think it was along the lines of "F-16 shoon hanooz narafte bala soghoot kard."

This is what happens when they get Saudi pilots to fly their American made planes instead of the usual Pakistani pilots that they have hahaha

    also amazing, yeah.
pretty sad state of affairs and weird as well. Females can attend all indoor matches, football or otherwise. We have all female firefighter units, taxi services and women are the absolute majority in our post secondary institutions.

The official line is that the atmosphere inside the football stadiums is not appropiate for females!:D
Personally I think the regime is just scared of 100K crowds of Iranian men and women mixing in a party like atmosphere. We have a theocratic regime but the people are very much Westernized in a lot of aspects so they are forced to impose religious laws, ban bars and clubs etc... They're forced to enact such laws and enforce them because the Iranian society and culture is simply different. You're not gonna have young men and women mixing it up in say, Saudi Arabia, but in Iran, without the crazy laws, you're gonna have all sorts of blasphemy cuz people simply don't give a shit.

I remember watching a pretty good movie about Iranian women trying to dress as men to go watch a world cup qualification game and getting arrested so they had to listen to the game in some kind of holding cell, where they would get updates every time a new girl was brought into the cell.

I remember the ending, Iran makes the WC and the girls are able to escape when their bus (on the way to jail) gets stuck in the celebration.

I forgot the name of the movie.

I haven't been following Asian Football for a while now but I though we'd reach the second round elimination stage considering the Iranian reaction here.

And then I found out it's still the qualification stage. Seriously guys? You're that ecstatic?

srsly? that's the best you can come up with?
The good ol' 'we don't care about this as much as you do' reaction lmao

And just to make it clear for you (as if you don't know ), this game wasn't about the football. I'm gonna stop there ;)

I'm just saying that you guys seem to take this rivalry WAY too seriously. You beat the 4th ranked Saudi team at home in a qualification playoff before the tournament really starts but from the celebrations here I genuinely thought that this was a semi final or something.

I think the reaction is not anything out of the ordinary. We're just kidding around with the F16 thing which was rather amusing and silly. And trolling around with it a bit.

At least you took the bait:p

According to our news Adelaide used ineligible player (brazilian Cassio) in the last match and so can be disqualified by AFC from the tournament.

Is that case concluded by now? By the way, how would you rate Bunyodkor's chances vs Adelaide, mate? I've heard they lost some key players from last season, especially Trifunovic.

Adelaide is in Tashkent now, so everything seems to be OK, but as far as I know Adelaide didn't take Cassio with them in order the avoid the risk of disqualifying them by AFC after this first match if he plays.

I have a very little idea about Adelaide at the moment, so can't do any prognoses regarding the match. But I think will be good challenging match, also it will be a revenge for Bunyodkor)), and they had a wonderful camps in Dubai and Turkey.

Thanks a lot for the response, Nurafshon. Yes, Casio stayed home as I've also read. Could you give us some detail about the main arriving/departing players from Bunyodkor? I'm really into this fast rising Uzbeki football. :)

I've watched plenty of Adelaide's matches this season. They've been poor, currently sitting second-last on the domestic table with the lowest # of goals for and highest # of goals against. The team seems disjointed, generally negative and lacking in quality everywhere. I want to see them do well, just like the other 2 aussie teams, but I do expect them to finish at the bottom of their group. Certainly won't be seeing them repeat their 2008 performance.

Brisbane and Central Coast are much brighter prospects this year.

Most of the Guangzhou fans will be Korea-based Chinese students studying here in Korea according to a Korean news article. Nonetheless, 3k away supporters sound immensely large and intimidating. It just tells you how serious Guangzhou's attitudes are towards winning the ACL this year. Also, the fact that Guangzhou's coach is Korean might give them a boosted confidence when facing against a Korean side.

    What about new players?

I have a feeling that Bunyodkor will surprise Asia in 2012 AFC Champions League.

I will be very interested in watching how Brisbane and Central Coast go. This is the first time ever that the top two teams that qualifieed for the ACL the previous year are still the top two when the ACL starts.
