gittnbizzee has that shot as the wallpaper on her phone :)

WaterSport-ing KC has no chance this weekend. We will crush them like bugs, we will send them back to Kansas hoping to be taken away by a powerful tornado rather than have to face their fans or wives/domestic partners after such an ass-whooping.
The only thing they will be able to do well inside RFK is bleed.

For all the optimism around here, Woolard; Dudar, McDonald, Russell is still a subpar back four, with three of the four having essentially been released or waived by other MLS teams over the past year.

I have pretty high expectations for the attack. I'm looking for three goals (for us) Saturday: Najar, Salihi, and Santos as a sub.

depends on how you get/sneak into the lot :) With a parking pass, they let you into Lot 5 (and you can drive thru the tunnel into lot 8) around noon. The lots don't usually "officially open" until 3:30 or 4 (for a 7:30 game). If you walk/metro - the lots are always open :D

Disclaimer: based on the past - they seem to change rules and procedures at least once per year...... I have not heard "rules" for this year (but I have my parking passes!)

I don't think that's a fair description of Russell. He's 32 and wanted to rejoin his wife, but he's been a regular starter (22 starts last year, 21 the year before) on a very good team and, but for his personal situation, would likely be starting at RSL yet.

So I just bought a charcoal grill but on the website it says gas only. Yet when I've tailgated in the past I've seen people using charcoal? What's the deal and sorry for the noob questions.

Didn't we open against KC 2 years ago? As long as it is not like that game...

you can cook with whatever you want to cook with short of a small nuclear-powered grill :D

If there is a gas-only policy it is new or has never been enforced in the history of RFK. Gas is way more dangerous than charcoal so it'd be a stupid rule anyway. Nobody's bag of charcoal ever exploded sending shrapnel 200 feet :)

    Then again, nobody's melted a perfectly good cross-trainer in a dumped-out pile of half-burned liquid propane. ;)

Best thread ever. Is it Saturday yet?

With the changeover in the backline and a green d-mid in front of the back four, I suspect we'll leak goals. With more firepower up front, I suspect we'll score a few, too.

Hope springs eternal before opening day: 4-3, DCU.

I'm in the same boat. But a goal less each, 3-2 to the Vamos, sporking the Wiz.

I'd be surprised if we get the win. We had a very disjointed preseason. Lots of key players battled ill timed small injuries. Another struggled with visa issues. Others spent time away with national teams. I think the early preseason games were dominated by testing trialists, and not so much by making the team gel.

Carolina was supposed to be a more finished product, but we had a poor game with Chicago, a game against USL opposition and the last game was missed.

All things equal I think KC comes in stronger. They're coming in with 90% of last year's team, no real gelling issues. Hopefully homefield advantage and a key play or two can get us an unlikely 3 points.

If his "personal situation" means his inflated salary, then yes. This is what Lagerway said: "The salary budget restrictions are cruel and it was going to be nearly impossible to keep Robbie heading into next season."
    http://www.rslsoapbox.com/2011/11/29/2597270/real-salt-lake-trades-robbie-russell-to-dc-united

They were prepping to make him available in the re-entry draft, which doesn't mean he's washed up--just unwanted by his current team (kind of the way Ngwenya was unwanted by Houston before we took him last year). For the record, these are the players United made available for the same draft: Brandon Barklage; Marc Burch; Steve Cronin; Devon McTavish; Kurt Morsink; Joseph Ngwenya; Santino Quaranta; Clyde Simms; Jed Zayner. None, except maybe Morsink, are still with the team.

Russell not being in RSL doesn't say much about his value. He's wanted to leave there all along, but RSL had no other real option at RB. Beltran has grown into the role so naturally the older guy with a significant salary becomes expendable.

Look at who we have at backup fullbacks. MLS salary cap doesn't offer the luxury to carry 2 starting caliber guys for each fullback position.

As for us, we all spent last year frustrated by too much youth on the backline. From the DC point of view grabbing an experienced 32 year old guy from a winning team was actually a plus. It's not a long term commitment, just a little cover for Korb until he's ready to start.

Yeah, just ignore the part where he and his wife wanted to be in the same city and they traded him for less than market value to accommodate that.

Seriously, the lengths that some people will go to in order to bitch about something here are pretty amazing. The back 4 is better than last year. We've upgrade CB significantly, RB, and LB (due to everything including herpes being better than Burch). But, go ahead and continue to just constantly bitch about a near playoff team that improved the starting lineup and depth significantly at each level of the field.

What was his market value? Did any of the 100 or so players who got drawn up for that reentry list (Simms and Burch included) have any market value?

Fine, then I'll bitch about Josh Wolff instead. By chance, is he getting married to a Portland, Chicago, Philadelphia or Houston girl any time soon?

Projected D.C. United opening night lineup:

Adbul "Bill" Hamid - Better Command than Stonewall Jackson. Great player.

Robbie "The Veteran" Russell - Covers better than a canopy on a rainy day. Great player.

Dejan "The J's are silent" Jakovic - Recovers from mistakes better than a successful teen pregnancy. Great player.

Emiliano "The Dude" Dudar - A towering figure. Bigger aerial threat than pigeons right after a car wash. Great player.

Daniel "At least he's not ********ing Marc Burch" Woolard. Shores up the left side better than sand on a beach. Great player.

Perry "Perry" Kitchen - Goes better at the bottom of a diamond than an engagement ring. Great player.

Andy "Wonderkid" Najar - Led shittiest (maybe) MLS team of all time in scoring at 17. Better on the wings than a side of ranch. Great player.

Chris "Party Boy" Pontius - Class act when leg isn't broken. Cuts inside the line more often than a kindergartener during art class. Great player.

Branko "The DP" Boskovic - More experience than the Old Spice Swagger Man. Great player.

Dwayne "Mr. United" DeRosario. What can you say? Incredible lad. Carries more weight on his back than an entrant to the World's Strongest Man Competition. Can win a game quicker than best-of-1 rock-paper-scissors. Great player.

Hamdi "Scores Goals" Salihi. Incredible strike rate. Better scoring ratio than picking up alone girls at last call. Scores so often the brothel shuts down when he arrives. Poaches so well he should be on safari. Great player.

    Go home Kansas City.

I see just a little difference between a guy who started 22 regular season and 3 playoff games the year before (Russell) and a guy who started 6 games the year before after going almost a year before that without a club (Ngwenya). I assume you do, too. ;)

You can bitch about him all you want, but he is married and has little kids (My kids and I ran into him at Tysons while watching a Disney movie).

Maybe you should watch where you're going.

I think we lose this game. Convincingly. Probably by 2 goals. I doubt we'll even score. We might get 2 own goals, but give up 4 anyway. Attendance maybe 11k. Probably only 8 show up. Talon won't even bother to come. There will be two balls on the field at the same time twice, two banks of lights will go out, and one chunk of permacrete will fall from the sky. The team store will be sold out of pins and bumper stickers. There will still be piles of snow in the parking lot.

    Welcome to 2012.
