I'm curious as to what you all think. Who is your 2nd favorite MLS Team, and what is your top 5 list of most hated MLS teams. Sorry, I'm bored at work. :) Ready, go!

    Here's mine:

    2nd favorite: Portland Timbers

    Top 5 Most Hated:

    1. LA Galaxy
    2. Seattle Sounders
    3. New York Red Bulls
    4. cRapids
    5. FC Dallas (I don't really hate them, just angry at them for knocking us out of the playoffs) :)

    3 Shittle Highlighters

That was my thought exactly. The top four stand out like a sore thumb. after that I don't have "hatred" towards any other MLS team....at the moment anyways. If a second team is brought to New York, that might change! :)

This thread is rapidly proving my prior observation that Colorado may not be our true rival...and I say that recognizing the temporal and transitory nature of the LA hate - a disease that's manifest mostly over the past three years.

I can't stand watching the games when we play CBus or Houston. With all of the whining and crying they do all game long.

this is due to one reason: RSL's utter dominance of the cRapids over the last 4-5 years. also contributing is the fact that RSL is now consistently considered among the leagues best teams for 3 years running while the cRapids are mediocre at best. i think RSL winning the Cup in 09 and then the cRapids following suite in a similar fashion in 2010 might have reignited it, but then the cRapids shit the bed and failed to back up there fluke trophy run while RSL put together another great season and almost won the CCL. its hard to be considered a rivalry when one team is consistently winning and getting a lot of positive talk around the country (and dominated the other head to head) while the other side of the rivalry is a mediocre team with lots of turmoil and a somewhat bleak outlook.

I agree with you. The RSL vs. cRapids rivalry to me is a manufactured rivalry based on geography, kind of like they are trying to do with the U and Colorado. I'm not saying that there haven't been some heated matches between the two sides, but I think our rivalry is stronger with LA, NY, SS, and FCD than it is with the cRapids.

Oh Jesus ******** not the "define a rivalry" thread again.

    On topic:

2nd favorite: Dallas. Another hardworking, blue-collar team. We may not get along on the pitch but I respect parts of the organization quite a bit.

    Hatred:
    1. cRapids
    2. LA
    3. Chivas

here we go with the "crapids aren't our rivals, LA is!" shit again

I'll just say this and hopefully it doesn't go much further: a rivalry has to be accepted by both sides. You ask an LA fan who they are rivals with they'll tell you San Jose or Chivas. Nobody mentions RSL. I guarantee it.

2nd Favorite: .... Timbers, I guess? Now that they don't have Douche Bag Cooper I can get more on board

    Hated:
    1. cRapids

Mondaini brings the hatred out of me.

    1. Gals (they flaunt their wins as though they are a regular club with no DPs)
    2. NYDP's (Flaunt their fails as though they are wins)
    3. Colorado (Salt Lake Hater Scarves, "Kings of the Rockies" videos, etc...)
    4. Seattle's dipshit fans on the internet. Nothing against the club or the majority of fans, just the dipshit ones that make everything a "where's your 36,000 fans" argument.
    5. Houston, those ********ers do well against us, and I couldn't think of another club with anything I could think of anything against them.

I don't really dislike any teams other than Houston, LA, and Colorado, and the only reason I dislike Houston & LA is because of Ching and Donovan. Never liked those guys, even when they are wearing the US jersey. They just have a smug look on their face all the time, like they are entitled. Drives me crazy. Every athlete should realize how blessed they are to play a sport for a living.

My wife isn't a big sports fan (although she is liking RSL more and more due to the season tickets), but you can ask her which sports players she hates and she'll say Kobe and Ching without hesitating. Houston games were especially fun because she would get riled up and angry as soon as Ching stepped on the field.

2nd: None really although I appreciate Portland and their fans.

    1. LA
    2. Colorado
    3. Houston
    4. Cbus
    5. Any team named Chivas

I could also throw in San Jose. What a bunch whiny babies they were last year. Glad they are getting a stadium. Maybe Chivas could move in with them and break up with LA.

2nd favorite: In 2009, it was Kansas City for coming through and getting the result we needed to make the playoffs. Other years the only result we needed was us in the final game (for example, in 2008 we needed whoever was playing Colorado in the final game of the season to win, and since that was us, no other team moves into 2nd. :)). I get to follow Seattle more closely than the other teams, and can actually have conversations with people about them, so that may eventually push them into a second favorite position - unless we play in loser-out playoff series regularly, then all bets are off!

    Five most hated:

    1: Monterrey

No one else has caused anything like the pain Monterrey caused me, and I have no reason to hate them until/unless they do. Monadini specifically, he's a different story. :D

Before 2004, I liked Chicago and San Jose. Now I could care less about any other MLS side.

Dislike (I was raised to not HATE anything)
5 Toronto. Canadians that think their poop doesn't stink.
    4 Houston. Ching and Cheats
3 New York. That WCF in 2008 still stings.
2 Colorado. Pablo and The Dicks.
1 Seattle. They think they invented MLS, they were given every advantage to succeed quick by the MLS front office, and they think their florescent green poop doesn't stink.

I think if you go outside of several supporter groups, I think that you find that many agree that we have rivals that are stronger than Colorado. I also think LA fans (with the exception of a few supporter groups) would consider other teams more of a rival than the goats or San Jose. That's just my opinion. :)

No second favorite, although I like the youth movement in Philadelphia.

    List of MLS hates:

    1) Seattle fans (No dislike for the team, really, but strongly dislike those homer-ish, quasi-ignorant fans)
    2) LA fans (Most are not ignorant of other teams in the league like Seattle fans, but boy are they entitled)
    3) Mastroeni - Not so much the rest of the team, just him.
    4) MONDAINI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    5) Pacific NW Myopia - I don't expect them to know every player in the league, but maybe like 3 or 4 from each would be a start. This is more of a pet peeve.....

Uh, you “guarantee” that LAG fans don’t mention RSL as a rival even though RSL beat them in the championship game in 2009? Or how RSL absolutely embarrassed them at the RioT last year? ). I think you may be confusing this actual rivalry with the one-sided Jazz-Lakers “rivalry”.
Well, not sure what the pulse on the rivalry from a LAG fan is, but apparently the LAG FO considers RSL one of their top 3 rivals and is marketing a mini plan for their top 3 rivals (RSL, RBNY, Philly). I imagine if the LAG organization is considering it rivalry then at least SOME LAG fans do as well. I promise my reasons for being on LAG website are pure (RSL away match info).
    2nd favorite: None

Second Favorite: Kansas City Wizards. At first it was just because they were the closest team. Then I moved and now Chicago fits that description, but I don't like the Fire. I do like what is going on down in KC. I've been to a few SSS stadiums now and none compare to Livestrong - it is awesome. And Robb Heinmann is the closest thing that MLS has to Mark Cuban.

5 Most Hated: (Honestly, I don't really HATE any other teams - they are all equally worthless)
1- Chivas (waste of space - I use the same description for the Crew and San Jose)
    1a-LA (Requisite hatred)
    1b-NY (See LA)
1c-Houston (just don't care for them)
    1d-Colorado (See 1a and 1b)

Saying we are rivals because of a single championship game (no matter how epic it was) would be similar to saying that the Dallas Mavs are rivals with the Miami Heat. It's a weak argument at best.

The reason this LA thing gets brought up is because of the past few years. Yeah, we won the title off them in 09, had heated matches in 10, and went out to them in 11. Somehow 3 years of good/heated games makes a rivalry? What about the 4 years before that were really really mediocre? We're going to get around more than the city bicycle at this rate...

As for the second part, I am fascinated by this sudden philly rivalry that LA has. Somehow bigger than the manufactured CUSA or authentic San Jose one? Awesome.

It's a way to try and sell tickets. We are the middle game in terms of prestige in that package. You go post on the LA board and ask "Who is your rival?" While it's not a full representation, it's one of the best you are going to get. RSL would be below San Jose, New York, and probably even Chivas USA

My understanding is this thread is just individual preference? Not so much to establish an official RSL rivalry hierarchy that nobody can agree on, yes?

2nd favorite: Toronto. I know, I know, but the end of last season they starting playing a pretty entertaining style. And if they knock LA out of the CCL then that's just a cherry on top.

    Disliked:
LA: Among a lot of reasons to choose from, the fact they had a 4th dp in Keane, either signed or known to be arriving, while still having Juan Pablo on the roster is probably the most offensive to me, though their sins are many and well documented.
Colorado: Competitive balance or not, I find the traveling support makes each match that much more engaging and compelling.
KC: Any squad with Espinoza is worthy of some loathing.
Seattle: Probably a case of a few fans ruining it for everybody.
    Vancouver: Cancelled game shenanigans.
