out of shape wash out? I'll give you that he's out of shape but that can easily be regained before the beginnning of the season & at 27 he's still better than Fucito or Neagle. The fact is Seattle needed one true forward that was better than the rest & could lead the pack. I think its a decent move. There were too many forwards of average or less than average skill. As a SSFC fan, you probably dont like to see them go of all the options there are at striker but I still understand the move & it makes sense.

If seattle is limited in cap space its kinda hard to upgrade at forward. If neagle and fucito were going to get a pay raise and be a budget player i can understand why.

Perhaps Zakauni is much further ahead than one though in his recovery.

So would that mean sadode makes the squad?

If I said I wasn't surprise by this it would be a lie but overall I think its an ok trade a bit of a gamble though. I don't really mind losing Fucito I always thought he was a bit overrated by Sounders Supporters but that's just my opinion but I wish we would have kept Neagle. We will just have to wait and see how this turns out.

Nice over reaction by a non-Sounder fan, but I will say that EJ had better produce. We just gutted our MF depth and a decent forward for him. If EJ puts out anything remotely similar to his former MLS numbers, he's totally worth the trade, but if he doesn't work out... Wow.

Although, Sivebaek's importance just jumped up. I'm guessing he made it easier to send Neagle away and EJ takes Fucito's place, but dang... Both? It doesn't even free up cap space since both Fucito and Neagle were minimum salary guys.

it has nothing to do with being a sounder fan or not ... i am a EJ hater (because he sucks and always has) ... and SSFC was one of the handful of MLS teams i have great respect for both on and off the field ... well ... usually.

This trade looks like a foolhardy gamble. Two solid young guys with bright futures ahead of them for Eddie Johnson? I sure hope I'm proved wrong but this looks just terrible.

I am anything but optimistic about this. Eddie Johnson isn't a "has been", he's a "never was". His scoring rate overseas speaks for itself but he wasn't all that impressive in MLS either, he essentially had two good years and was never a dominant player. Similarly, his (one time) reputation as an ace striker for the nats was based on a brief run of form against CONCACAF minnows. Most importantly, the guy has never, ever, demonstrated any type of understanding or soccer intelligence on the field. He's shit, he's always been shit, and there's no way he stops being shit at age 28.

I truly hope I end up eating crow on this, but right now this strikes me as an utter disaster of a move.

this man knows what he is talking about ...

Chris Henderson was just on the radio giving an interview about this and called him "a lethal finisher" ... i assume he was talking about his lethal ability to finish off meals? and he also said that EJ was wanting to get back in the USMNT picture so he could go to the WC 2014 ... i almost fell off my seat laughing my ass off.

to put this in perspective ... EJ makes Robbie Findley look like Kun Aguero.

Anything that involved Fucito was going to go over very poorly on S@H. They are practically a cult for Fucito over there. This is a risk, but Fucito usn't a starting forward right now and would have been better served as a backup for Montero than paired with him. EJ gives the Sounders an aerial threat in their forward duo that they lacked when OBW got injured.

    Yoshou,

This move completely changes everything in the battle for roster spots in camp.

So clearly someone has lost faith in Ochoa. Wasn't he supposed to be that guy?

In case you hadn't noticed, MLS teams are CONCACAF minnows and Fucito wasn't getting any joy against them. EJ failed miserably in Europe, but he isn't the first to do so. EJ's problem is that he stayed too long over there and let his head get too big. The last year has been extremely humbling for him and I hope he's figured out that he needs to work his ass off too succeed.

i really don't understand why they didn't go after LeToux or somebody else. teams in the league have signed a ton of "target"-ish strikers that are better than OBW and Ochoa.

i get that Fucito is better as a back up for FM and that another type of forward needs to be paired with FM for best results. and i can see that perhaps Estrada or Cato were better for that than Fucito (despite the cult following). Neagle is a bit different as a local boy makes good story and at a wide midfield position that needed depth ... but even he isn't irreplaceable if sivebaek is good ... i am not taking issue at trading Fucito and Neagle away ... if they had been traded for LeToux i'd have been all for it ... my problem is trading FOR EJ ... he is terrible, always has been and always will be ... his limited MLS success was based on being athletic in a time where that would suffice for success in the league ... MLS is no longer that type of league and EJ's modest talents such as they were have eroded to the point of being negligible over the past 4 years.

this will end in tears i'm afraid.

This is not good. ej has never lived up to his potential or hype. I am getting less and less excited about the upcoming season.

Le Toux is due a major pay raise if he remains in MLS. I don't think we would been able to afford him next year.

Ochoa was supposed to be the guy, but I'm not sure it is a matter of losing faith in him. It sounds like they just feel EJ is an improvement on Ochoa.

Out of curiosity, do we have a backup for Montero? That was Fucito, but he's obviously not the guy anymore. Could Sodade fill that, but he seems like another big guy.

The Sounders weren't told that Le Toux was available. Sounds like Philly went right to Vancouver and gave them first shot at him.

Good point. I've obviously blocked Esteada out of my mind. Not sure on Rosales though. He's got the ball distribution, but not the nose for goal. He passed up a number of opportunities last season in order to pass the ball to a payer in a worse position.
