The 2012 season gets under way in Kochi prefecture this weekend with the staging of the Western Japan Shakaijin Tournament. The participants of this competition are typically the teams that finished first and second in the previous season's Chugoku, Kansai, Kyushu and Shikoku Leagues, although sometimes there are dropouts due to things like promotion to the JFL or withdrawal from Regional League football.

Promoted Kyushu kings AC HOYO ELAN Oita have indicated that they will play as part of their preparations for the forthcoming JFL season, although there are question marks over which teams will represent Shikoku following the separation from Ehime FC of champions Shimanami.

The Western Japan Shakaijin title is held jointly by Kamatamare Sanuki and Renofa Yamaguchi, who each won their four-team mini-pools in Osaka. A final play-off had been scheduled but a full day's tournament play was lost due to snow. This year the intention from the start is for the title to be shared, with the likes of FC Kagoshima, Nara Club and Dezzolla Shimane hopeful of challenging favourites HOYO.

But its not that Ehime FC and Shimanami were partitioned in 2 teams right? Only Shimanami that once more became an independent club after being Ehime FC reserves for a couple of seasons right?

Since you are mentioning FC Kagoshima I just wanted to remark although a couple of week old news, for those not knowing that FC Kagoshima and Volca Kagoshima has been into merger talks, but FC Kagoshima withdrew from the discussion so no merger there.

Aparently the Tsunami killed the first club. NEC Tokin folds because their training ground in Natori City doesnt exist anymore. Club staff and 7 players merges in nearby Wiese Shiogama which changes name to Shiogama NTFC.

Tohoku League 1. Division will be played with 7 teams this season.

Looks like Shikoku will be represented in the Western Japan Shakaijin by Kuroshio FC and Sanyo Electric Tokushima, who finished second and third last season. Saturday's First Round games are therefore as follows:

Group 1 First Round 18 Feb

HOYO AC ELAN Oita - Renofa Yamaguchi
Nara Club - Sanyo Electric Tokushima

Group 2 First Round 18 Feb

    Dezzolla Shimane - Banditonce Kakogawa
    Kuroshio FC - FC Kagoshima

Is this just speculation or is there any news? There's no news on the Tohoku League website since October 2011...

Sorry for my ignorance but is Troussier still working for FC Ryukyu, and if so,what is he doing precisely for them?
Their website lists him as "supervisor"...

Whoops, you got me wrong- I meant the 7 teams Division 1... It doesn't look like Shiogama's home page is talking about it, though my Japanese skills are basically non-existant and I may easily be wrong. :)
It's just that... they could promote Vanraure to the 1st division then. I really like that team :D

Kodemari, the Kahoku Shimpo local newspaper website here refers to the Tohoku League Division 1 having only seven teams in 2012.

    Many thanks!

Another question... is anything known about the composition of the five Hokkaido blocks for 2012? I guess it may be a bit too early but it doesn't hurt to ask :)

no only one of five blocks in sapporo rest is around hokkaido. May i remind that Hokkaido is a big geographical area and until recently Hokkaido had several Sub-prefectures.

Oops, I meant Hokkaido of course.

And I remember there were four block leagues a while ago.

Hokkaido still has 9 subprefectural bureaus, and they used to be 14 until a couple of years ago.
Until last year the Hokkaido league only had four blocks- Dō-nan (south), dō-ō (center), dō-hoku (north) and dō-tō (east) but they decided to add another one for Sapporo city teams (which occupied 4 out of 6 spots in the Dō-ō block, and leave the Center block for surrounding cities such as Otaru, Chitose and Iwamizawa.
There isn't still any future perspect for another J League team though...

Perhaps this is a stupid question but, what level would you say these teams have if you compare it to non-league football in England?

Well a Japanese fella was playing for Harrow Borough, at least until last season (10/11). He used to play for, I think, Waseda United. Harrow play in the Ryman Premier division (two div's bellow Football League 2 - Conference, Con South/North, Ryman Prem). Kenta Nakashima is his name. Doubt anyone has heard of him on here.

So going by that, even though I have no idea what league Waseda play in, I'd imagine that the level of football is going to be between Step 4 (Ryman, Northern, Southern League) to about 7/8 (Combined Counties Div 1, Kent League Div1).

This is only a guess. I have nie on no knowledge of the Japanese non-league system. I am only going on the efforts of 1 player, who came from a non-league Japanese team, I saw play against my local team.

Seems like Nagano Parceiros application as J-League associate member was turne down (or rather oficially as being in progress and discussions will keep on).

Waseda is not a club; it is a university. And not even one of the best ones for football, at that (though it is pretty near the top academically) . . . .

Like I said I don't know a lot out the non-league system in Japan. My lack on knowledge about Waseda not being a proper team is proof. I was just going on a season's performance of a single player. But now at least I know something, even if it is only about 1 Academy/Uni.

What do you think then? Would say my guess-temate is pants, or close? I'd like to know as I am really into local non-league over here (Sunny South London......:D).

They're stuck with the stadium issue for years (and again this time). Don't know if they are able to sort this out eventually.
