Folks are usually more on top of this, but Robbie deserves his own thread and I wish him luck. Feel free to change the thread title if someone has a better one.
Robbie has certainly entered a hot bed right now with the selling of Howson and now the sacking of the manager. Query how that affects his time on the field. Grayson seemed ready to get him on as soon as he was match fit.
Thanks Woodrow. For those interested, here's the link to the old thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=25100584#post25100584
How can anyone object to the thread title? the classics are classics for a reason. Thread title RAWKS!
yea, its impossible to predict whats going to happen right now with all the uncertainty. Rogers won't start though so long as Robert Snodgrass and Andros Townsend are healthy. Will be interesting to see if he makes the bench on Saturday with Neil Redfearn as caretaker. Not sure how his match fitness is right now though.
A strong point that Rogers has is that he can defend. He is more of a two way mid. From what I have seen Leeds is seriously lacking on team defense right now.
In my opinion, Robbie has always been rated low by posters on board. I like his game. Quick, agile and has a good cross and shot. Wish him the best of luck
Is Snodgrass still there? And Andros Townsend is on loan from Spurs correct? So they will be Rogers' competition?
Yes and yes. They're probably the two most talented players left in the squad and are first choice & Robbie's competition.
That is very good. I suspect Rogers will hold his own once he gets settled in. He can play both sides and is known as a capable defender. His two former coaches with his MLS team stressed defense and two way mid field play.
Townsend is a left winger though so Robbie Rodgers real competition would be Snodgrass right? Also are there rules of loaning more then two players to championship sides like there are for PL to PL loans? If not I hope more Spurs go up to Leeds when the loan window reopens. Now that we're out the Nextgen series players like Pritchard, Ceballos, Luongo, etc are available. I imagine the coaches will be working hard to help those kids out after the massive cock-up.
Rogers plays on the left usually, but I would guess he'll serve as cover on both wings as Lloyd Sam isn't really that great and theres no natural wingers behind him. Ramon Nunez plays on the wing some occassionally but by all accounts hes very poor there cause hes an awful team defender and needs to play behind a striker. There is some sort of rule like that yes. Also, Leeds fans are already a bit pissed off at taking so many players on loan from the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham the past few years and joke around that Leeds is their nursery/feeder club (in self-deprecating but pissed off sort of way.) Regardless of the quality of those kids I don't think any moves like that would be well received.
Meh if it gets the job done I don't see the big deal. Spurs wouldn't be were they are without Ade. Roma loaned Bojan, Borini, Gago Kjaer with options to buy. Thank Christ we didn't permanently sign Kjaer he's awful. Maybe it's just my outlook on football but I don't consider loans to be degrading. For the goals my respective clubs have I think loans are essential. Especially loans with options to buy because it's basically the best scouting tool available. Fair enough though, crucial match coming up against Brizzle, I hope to see both of the lads in the team and Rodgers in the 18. Brizzle have been poor at home, so that's one Leeds should be winning.
You have to consider the context though, Leeds sell their best players and then replace them with kids that won't see a game at Premier League clubs and puts the club in the business of developing their youth. Now, Adam Smith's loan would be a bit different if it includes an option to buy as advertised but its the short term loans for young players that draw ire.
Does Townsend normally play on the left? In the single (FA Cup) Leeds match that I saw last month, he played on the right and was very lively, especially on attack. I have never seen Rodgers as lively.
