Pleasantly surprised Bullhead got the nod. I think it's a great movie but I hadn't expected the Academy to recognize it to this extent.

I'm extremely upset and angry that The Adventures of Tintin wasn't nominated for animated feature.

Cant stand Billy Crystal, the dudes not funny at all. I know its a classier award show but they could of got someone better. He hasn't been relevant since he hosted it last time.

EDIT: Monsters Inc was pretty cool.

Many celebs on ze twitter are going on with their sarcasm regarding The Academy Awards this year.

    And War Horse? Really?

I think if Speilberg puts his name on a documentary involving gastric bi-pass surgery it would get nominated for something.

War Horse is terrible. My guess is that The Help and the Extremely Loud... movies are also horrible.

I'll be watching The Descendants soon and hopefully The Artist when it comes around or out on DVD.

Midnight in Paris and The Tree of Life are the only two to stick out that I've seen. Hugo was good but not that great.

I know several people who have seen The Help and thought it was good. Have you read the book?

No. I may go ahead and watch it. I was just sour over how horrible War Horse was. I'm sure the book is good though. My reading list is too long to put that in there at the moment.

The book is a treasure, assuming that you enjoy novels that are written from the POV of several different characters. Obviously, the tone changes somewhat from chapter to chapter, but I think that's an accomplishment, maintaining a high level of consistency within each different character.

I haven't seen the movie. We wait till it comes out on video. Maybe May or June...:)

I still need to see a lot of these movies but 50-50 was by far the best movie I have seen that came out last year and it doesnt seem to have been nominated for anything. It was about as honest as a movie can get which is rare.

The Academy is not interested in honesty. If you want to get Oscar recognition, the best course is to crawl as far up the ass of the industry as humanly possible.

Less than a week to go!

While I have yet to see any of the the Best Picture nominees, I may watch a few beforehand if time permits (War Horse, The Artist and Hugo come to mind). That'll give me three movies to root for by the time the Academy Awards ceremony finally rolls around.

The ceremony is a lot more fun to watch when there's at least one Best Picture nominee that one has seen and is rooting for, and is significantly less so when there isn't. There was a long gap of such "seen and rooting for" nominated movies for me between when The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won in February 2004 and two years ago when four movies I saw and rooted for were nominated (Avatar, District 9, Inglorious Basterds and Up), as well as last year's The Social Network, True Grit, Toy Story 3 and Inception. I suppose this past year was a slow one for me as far as movie-watching went.

In any case, for me, the biggest news of this year's show is that my most favorite-ever Oscar host, Billy Crystal, will return to reprise the hosting duties. :D Who was/is your favorite Oscar host thus far?

Thanks plata..:) I made a full list copy so I can fight with my wife over hers and mine predictions. Pizza and beer night.:)

You know, he wasn't bad first time he did it but he is passe now.
Saw a shot of him for the ads and he looked like he had his makeup done in a funeral parlour.

I think a lot of people were all scared shitless in case Ricky Gervais got the job.

I'm still pissed at the Denzel Washington "Politically Correct" debacle.

I like Denzel a lot but "Training Day" was not Oscar material.
