But they don't even do that, do they? I mean, there's one-and-done and all that, and I haven't seen many D-League rosters, but are there guys who forgo college and go right to the D-League now that there's one-and-done?
No, they don't. They can, but it's my understanding that the one-and-dones would have to sit out a year before being eligible for the NBA DL, as opposed to the NBA proper. Of course, that may have changed in the latest CBA. I haven't heard anything about the NBA DL since then, and I'm too lazy to look.
Do I need to be a meteoroligst to know whether I should take an unmbrella to work or not? Do I need to be a doctor to serve on a jury about a case involving medical malpractice? When I say that NASL or the NASL will lose it's D2 sanction in either 2013 or 2014, I'm not saying that based on insider information, I'm saying that as a statement of confidence.
Sometimes in English, the acronym becomes a word itself. No one says, "I used a SCUBA to swim underwater". I wonder if the chairmen in the FIFA know about the correct use of acronyms.
Did you mean contradict yourself just then? No matter. Look, there's nothing wrong with saying, "a SCUBA" except that too many people don't know what it stands for, so it is used as a modifier rather than a noun, i.e. "a SCUBA tank", or "SCUBA gear". You are not making your point this way. Still not happening. It's an exception because "FIFA" is an acronym of foreign origin. I daresay, if it had come from English, it would use the article per usual, as in, "The FA". Incidentally, in French you would say, "La FIFA".
It goes by whatever the last letter represents. calling it "the" works for the first five because they're either "the League" or "the Association". You can't call the others "the Baseball", "the Soccer", "the Racing", or "the Lacrosse". (it IS Major League Lacrosse) As for FIFA, it's simpler than what Kot describes. "The FIFA" doesn't work because the acronym refers to "football association", the French full name for "soccer", not "football" then "association". The actual English is "International Federation of Association Football", or IFAF. People just don't use that in general use. There's your English grammar lesson for the day, kiddies.
So I only got MLL wrong because I switched the order of Lacrosse and League and people still tore me a new one, what up with that? What kind of six-sigma grading system is this, 8 out of 9 should be passing Ok 7 out of 9 Just saw that it is not the NLL; it is actually the LFL BTW rep to the first one that can tell me correctly what the LFL stands for.
Actually NLL works for National Lacrosse League, the indoor league, and I thought that's what you meant. Yes, LFL is Lingerie Football League.
Fair points. There is potential to really create a true minor league, and perhaps grab some of those kids that are not really college material but not yet ready for the NBA. Lord knows the NBA-DL has demonstrated a market for it. I will admit that I enjoy taking in the occasional Iowa Energy game, even though I generally loathe basketball. As a sports fan, I feel it is important to support the local teams, even if they are in a piss poor pseudo minor league.
Maybe within a few years we'll see a NBA with 24 teams and a MLS with 24 teams, so let's start talking about the big five instead of the big four.
Are you ********ing serious? In what universe will the NBA lose six teams? Hell, their talk of contraction is just smoke to make stingy owners make moves to be competitive. I doubt the NBA will ever lose two teams, let alone six. Even with the dilution of product, they're more likely to expand than contract. I don't know where you live or where you are from, but clearly you do not understand American sports. You've demonstrated a lack of understanding the structure of MLS time and time again in this thread by posting lists of teams that either do not exist or are nowhere near a position to consider buying an expansion franchise, while eliminating Chivas USA altogether. You don't see us going into the Dutch thread and suggesting that Red Light Amsterdam, Dike FC, and Sporting Marijuana be moved up and PSV be wiped from existence. We don't do that because we understand how it works there. We don't shit in your sandbox, so stop shitting in ours. Enough already. Sit back and observe. Ask questions. Pipe in with relevant discussion, based in reality. But quit making completely inaccurate assumptions. It's getting annoying.
See, if I did that I'd get a (very nice) message from a mod. I don't suffer fools gladly (Muppet News Flash), but I don't believe vettefredje is a troll or Mentally Unfit To Stand Trial like WhiteStar Warriors or something. I think he's just Dutch.
My hope is that when we get to 20 teams we will go back to a balanced schedule and a slightly smaller playoff. Any league that allows more than half of the teams in the playoffs is a joke (in my opinion). I know that NHL and NBA allow it, and it really undermines the prestige of getting into the playoffs. In the MLB and NFL you have to be fairly good to get in.... But, if the league does expand beyond 20, I´d like to see it eventually either A- split into 2 leagues as East / West, and then the playoffs could be more meaningful, or DI and DII.
Rochester Rhinos and Orlando City are the best attended USL Pro/NASL clubs, they should be considered, although New York Cosmos is probably the best idea. But if you don't have a stadium it can be pretty difficult
Please educate yourself on how MLS works before posting ignorant shit like this again. The only thing that the league "considers" is a bid from a potential ownership group. MLS does not go looking for clubs to absorb. Really, this is basic stuff that shouldn't have to be explained over and over.
It's a shame about Rochester, in the early days of the league with the right owner they could well have made it, but in today's world no chance I'm afraid.
It seems like the current Rhinos owner is not interested in seeking an MLS franchise. Everything we've seen or head indicates that he is content to stay down with the lower expenses. The Rattlers will be his only "major league" team for the foreseeable future. But lacrosse is fairly cheap to run (salaries cap around $25k, most are the early teens - if that) compared to other sports. Of course, Rochester is no longer on the league's radar. It's too small to meet the league's needs. They had a small window and missed out. Now they are a minor league city. The only major league teams they have are of the second tier variety like MLL and NLL (as much as I love lax); MLS has moved out of that tier or is fairly close. The league has been talking to Orlando's ownership. They are publicly in the mix for expansion. But it is not based more on the owner, market size, disposable income, available sponsors, etc. than it is on minor league performance on the field or at the gate. Again, American sports - including MLS - operate differently than European sports.
Learn something about how a) pro sports in the US work and b) how football works in the US before you post. Since it's is fun (it's about football) and informative (it's about an different systems and why they emerge), it's really not that demanding cognitively - I've managed it - you have no excuse.
