Podolski out 3 weeks from an injury suffered in the Schalke game. :(

I will hold you to that come the EM. :D

We are of course going to need a youtube as proof, if it happens.

In fact he's started upfront for Gladbach's 4-4-2 and attacked from the left and the right, he's almost both feeted. (todays goal was a dry left foot), so he's an option for every offensive position.

I know that Mueller is having a mediocre season at Bayern right now, but that Netherlands match wasn't that long ago, where he showed how well he combines with Klose and Oezil. He is in no danger of losing his starting spot.

What?? Favre started him as a trequartista/false 9 in a 4-4-2 and this has been mentioned so many times in this thread

And during the game, he always rotates with Hanke and become the striker up top. If u're really watching his games n not just his stats, u should realize he always appears as the only Gladbach's striker up top for every counter attack with Hanke slightly behind and do the passing n assist, much like this:

    -Herrmann-------------Arango
    ------------Hanke

    ------------Reus

Herrmann is the right winger for Gladbach

Not sure what games u have been watching from Reus

It boggles the mind doesn't it?

Watch Reus' goal, it sums up his role in the side, if not nearly every one of his goals.

Yes, watch the goal Reus scored....

in the middle, the only man up at the very top. It wasnt from the flank

he is definitely a false 9 or a trequartista for Gladbach

I also believe Loew sees him as a wide player unfortunately. At this point, we have Mueller, Podolski, and Schuerrle who are shoe-ins. In his youth days he played in the center but was placed wide right for Ahlen and early on at Gladbach. We have Schuerrle who can cover for Podolski and Mueller (at times) so I'm presuming Reus can cover Mueller.

Still it would be a waste if the system is rigid but fitting everyone in this side is quite a task. The important thing is to retain the proper amount of synergy and freedom among these creative types; playing one right, one left, and one center but not limit them to these roles as Schuerrle isn't necessarily left-minded although he does best there, and neither is Reus as right-sided player, and so on.

We have Goetze on the right flank too n of coz Oezil can play on the left

But i think Mueller has proven that he isnt a winger from what i've seen of him for Bayern Munich

Schuerrle is not really a left winger either

I wish Löw was a bit more flexible in the use of his players rather than viewing certain players in certain positions only. You can put Reus for example anywhere and he'd do well. I

Klose with 2 stellar goals, thats for sure. What is this now, 13 goals? He's definitely making a point for starting at the Euro's, has my vote.

He's certainly doing much better than I would have expected. 12 goals and 6 assists is a great tally.

It's ridiculous to say this. Goetze & Podolski are fighting for the LW position and Goetze is also vs Ozil who is basically untouchable for the AM position. Therefore the only real position is him vs Muller but he will not start over him either.

Of course you can be like SirM and imagine hallucinations and imagine things like Reus playing ST when in reality he plays behind Hanke in a free role, confirmed by our very own BMG fan. :p

I thought u said the same about Thomas Mueller too but its not true ...at all

Mueller doesnt really have a position for Bayern, plays right/left/center alternatively n he looks lost. He is used like a utility man due to Robben n Ribery's endless injuries

In fact, Mueller is an average right winger for Bayern n terrible at LW. He doesnt score as often because he's on the flanks most of the time. Its a waste of his strength: off-the-ball and positioning inside the penalty box n his scorer instinct

Absolutely, Müller has done well behind the striker, out right, out on the left. The new generation of players are very intuitive and don't need to be as regimented positionally or just stick to one side. We see this with loads of players in the last couple of years, whether its Müller, Özil, Götze, Reus, Schürrle, etc.

Kirsten is wrong. I agree with, ForeverRed. The new generation of players can play anywhere across the attacking midfield. Mueller and Schuerrle are just in very poor forms for a few months now. Mueller looks great in the national team but is poor for Bayern. Maybe something to do with the coach and players around him. Schuerrle changed the club and is not as good as in the previous one. Before he could shoot very well......... and also his decision making is poor now. Maybe he is ''one-season wonder'' although I dont think so.

Schuerrle needs to settle. His previous side encouraged every facet of his game. Leverkusen is completely inconsistent and don't have a general philosophy. It phased him but it's all about settling. I have no worries about Schuerrle. His talent is evident and unlike Marin or Podolski he's not mentally affected by the big stage and the demands that are placed on him.

I know for a fact, with Leows already well sustained trust in him - Podolski will almost certainly start ahead of Schuerrle. Oezil too, is older and classier than either Gotze or Kroos. I am slightly puzzled about Mueller and Khedira, with the former being out of form and the latter fighting for a spot at Real Madrid.

I am genuinely curious as to how Kroos, Gotze, Bender and Reus will feature in the NT squad. Surely, Reus being so in form at the moment and scoring/assisting for fun (12 goals and 6 assists in 17 games) - doesn't this warrant a start at some point? Perhaps Leow could drop one of the wingers and have Oezil behind Reus.

It warrants a start if he does similar things in the NT. So far, he has played there for roughly half an hour, which is hardly enough to claim a starting spot. It was enough for Müller, however, Müller had no competition (unless you want to call Trochowski competition). Reus has plenty.

For now, Reus needs to get some more playing time - i.e. extended sub appeances instead of just 3 minutes - in the near future to have an opportunity to display his skills in that environment and, potentially, to impress. Similar to how Schürrle has been treated for the past six months or so.

Reus needs to be played in the last 30 min of 4-5 consecutive games to display his skills in that new environment.
