Allright people, the upcoming year will be a very vital one for the NT.

    1. Friendly Matches
22.01 - against Lebanon away in Saida [LEB]

Accoding to the latest news, Romania asked IFA for a friendly inTurkey. Nothing confirmed yet.

    2. WCQ 2nd round
29.02 - against Singapore in Doha [QAT]
the match will be a mere formality since Iraq has already booked it's place in the final round. I expect Zico to field a second string side.

    3. WCQ 3rd round

According to the AFC, the games will be played at these dates:

    Game 1 : 02.06
    Game 2 : 08.06
    Game 3 : 12.06
    Game 4 : 11.09
    Game 5 : 16.10
    Game 6 : 14.11

Means we might play half of the games next year, especially the games in June will be extremly important and might decide our compaign.

Iraq will participate in the Dubai international tournament which is held in January. The IFA decided to send a B team to the tournament. This is the last chance to evaluate new faces before we begin our WCQ campaign.

I'm reading that Radhi Shenshl wants to participate with the Olympic team instead.

I don't understand why the IFA didn't propose that in the first place. They already named the coach for the B team but the Iraqi fans are not waiting for the same scenario as in the arab games campaign. Using the Olympic team will benefit regarding the Olympic qualifiers and will give Zico the chance to bring additions to the NT.

That was the original plan, but Shenshil first declined since Iraq had agreed to host the Syrian OT for two friendly games in Sulemaniya. Now he asked for participation after FIFA refused to allow any games there.

Aha, That makes sense. BTW, a little of topic but i wonder how Ali Abbas is doing? Does he still play regularly in Australia. In the first period we heared a lot about him and his good performance but i haven't heard about him in a long time now. He really got bigger and stronger and i think he would be a great addition to the team (not that there is any chance of that).

That's a bit disappointing: he has played 238 minutes so far..

Well they have named Haid Mtanesh coach of the B-team. We have the Arab Nations cup and 2012 WAFF championship coming up. Two tournament where this team can be used.

And I really hope that the media and fans won't be crying if we don't get any silverware at these tournaments.

Personally, i think our main focus should be the NT. We have some experienced players who know that this is their last chance to achieve something at WC level. We should (rapidly) test young players who can be added to the veterans. Because of this i don't care about that kind of tournaments but i do expect that these teams display a decent performance unlike the performance in the Pan Arab games where we got trashed by Bahrain. Having said this; i do worry about the future because i am not seeing a lot of talented young players. Let's hope i am wrong here..

Zico should choose asap the best eleven and let them play as much as possible together before we begin our WCQ.

Such tournaments are the best way to test young players. We can't play inexperienced players at important matches, they'll have to play more matches before that.

Arab Cup qualification starts in February, the finals will be in June. We'll get to know more after the draw next month.

WAFF championship might be played in August or September, no fixed date yet.

Will be good for Zico to try out some of the local players. If we can get a win to boost our rankings too that would not be too bad.

We moved up by five places in this months FIFA rankings. Making us 6th in the AFC rankings, which is great for our seeding in round 4 as the draw will be based on these positions :D

NOT, his club didn't release him.

We can forget about any European based players joining the NT. :(

They are really needed. I saw Younis and Nashat play today; that was not pretty. Meanwhile Bassim Abbas is skipping training sessions with Baghdad, he got fined for that and had a last warning.
