It was not "if" they fail, but rather "when." The opposite of what NYC2 should be.

They never deserved to be in the most sophisticated and experienced soccer league below MLS

USL should get out of the business of pro soccer and stick with PDL.

This is why I hate USL because they make stupid decisions and killing off hopes and dreams for fans.

If it weren't for Mr. Marcos, MLS would have bought out the USL pro division years ago.

It could have brought some stability to minor league soccer, but unfortunately ...

I'm not shocked at all by this, but I am a bit disappointed. I certainly had more fun going out to Belson and watching this team. I'd proudly wear their replica top far quicker than I would go support a team that's sole purpose is to promote an energy drink, or pretend that Energy Drink is still the Metro.

Dude, let it go. Their logo was clipart. Everything about the club was a train wreck from the beginning and it never improved. It is amazing they lasted a season.

If anything, it makes you appreciate the Red Bulls operation a lot more given how Mickey Mouse FCNY was from the start.

Funny they have the exact same number of championships as Energy Drink FC. Such a well run group that is. Maybe they can come up with a jersey where all you can see is the RedBull logo.

Did I say anywhere where I thought FCNY did a great job. The logo was no worse than the SI Vipers or even the NY Centaurs hell it certainly beats something right off the side of an energy drink can.

I think it is sad whenever a US club dies. Even if FCNY only had a handful of fans, its death just continues to prove how weak our system is and gives fans more reasons to not care about lower division soccer. 'Why care if your team can can be dead next year?'

Sorry to any FCNY fans out there, hopefully someone can invest properly into soccer in NYC soon.

Agreed. It is a shame, despite the (correct) predictions that this club would last one season.

At least the PDL and NPSL leagues are relatively strong. The NYC area metro league, the CSL, has been around for a long time. Perhaps one of those teams will have the ambition to "promote" themselves to USL Pro...

If they were to try that, I would reckon they would try to build their fan base first. What's the typical attendance for the CSL?

For CSL games I wouldn't know, I'd imagine the attendance is low.

But CSL league has been around for a long time and a few teams are really popular. At the 1st Rnd open cup game when the Pancyprian Freedoms played FCNY, I believe 500+ people showed up, with most of the crowd everyone cheering for the Freedoms. The Brooklyn Italians, formerly of the CSL, recently "promoted" themselves to the NPSL.

Why don't more clubs do this? It looks like their furthest trip in conference is to New Hampshire. Chattanooga FC is showing that you can be successful in that division. Why waste your resources with LA to Antigua road trips in USL-Pro?

I can't say for certain, but I think it probably has to do with the fact that lower division pro soccer is a TOUGH sell in the US.. Lower division amateur soccer would be doubly hard. it does work well in some places.. like Des Moines and Laredo, but the number of places it works can be counted on one or 2 hands. I'm not saying that attitude is right and I'm not saying its wrong, its just how it is.

just for the record...I think that I read somewhere that some of the NPSL teams were playing pros...so not everyone in the league was amateurs.

taken this evening directly from the FC Buffalo Facebook page...

The NPSL is entering a new phase this year as some teams will have the option to turn professional. The league will be making an announcement soon regarding the structure of the salary cap, but paid players will be allowed in the NPSL for the first time in 2012. Teams will either be professional or amateur in makeup, as the NCAA states that amateur players cannot play with professional players without forfeiting their college eligibility. College players can play against professionals though, so you can expect to see some more important friendly dates on our calendar this season. FC Buffalo will continue to host an amateur team this season, and we're very excited to be announcing some more signings soon.

glad to see FCNY isn't givin' up just yet. and they'll have a better chance in NPSL with other clubs closer to their level. now all they need to do is improve their crest up to the NPSL level...

In other Red Bulls news, Empire of Soccer reports they have made with Patterson-Sewell, a 24-year-old Aussie-American who had two earlier stints with the club and has excelled for Atletico Clube de Portugal. Kristian Dyer tweeted that they will bring in Arteaga on another trial next week, after the 25-year-old striker scored twice for their reserves last year. Born in Cali, Colombia and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, he played 21 games for now-defunct FC New York last year and scored a USL Pro-leading 13 goals.

you are right, for the FC NY it made no sense to be in a league with Antigua and LA
