Wow, people!!! Miyama is 4th in the World! :D

And very close to Wambach, especially in coaches' votes!

Documents are out on the FIFA site:
    http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/classic/awards/01/56/60/64/voting_results_ok.pdf

I'll have to examine everything carefully, but I was too much excited when I discovered that Miyama was so close to take part in this Gala, and I couldn't wait to say it here (Mumf, how would you have felt if Aya had been in Zurich too? :p).

Now I dive back in studying FIFA documents...

edit: media, instead, put Solo on the same exact step as Miyama.
    SOLO! Compared to Miyama!
Media are crazy. And I even had thought that they could have corrected some craziness in the voting system...
After all, barring any other consideration, Solo couldn't even save Miyama's goal nor Miyama's penalty during the shootout... I mean: Miyama-Solo 2-0... ^__^

edit 2: the document with the votes one by one still isn't out; on the FIFA site there is still just the men's one. It's a shame, I just wanted to know who Sawa had voted for... ^__^
Oh, well, I hope that document will be out soon; meanwhile I'll keep studying percentage on the voting results chart...

I'm so happy for Sawa and Sasaki, congratulations to them both! I loved how Sawa attended the ceremony in a kimono.:)

Marta .. Bad bad .. Lack of fair play ..
In interviews he said that Sawa is best served by their partners than her ..
Why not admit that Sawa was better this year?
    What a shame ..

Do you have a link to that?

It is terrible that Santos has disappeared just days ago. Its like the end of league football in a fast-growing country otherwise mad about football.

    Anyway, to the JFA story

Congratulations... Any other picks would be unfair.

Concerning Miyama, I'd say she was nearly as important as Sawa to the team, thus maybe having a greater impact on the tournament than, say, Marta, and probably deserved better

    Really?
it's worse than I thought... I had missed that interview. Can it be read (or watched) anywhere?

What an acid, envious, bitter, grudgy bad loser Marta is...
Probably she thinks that she deserves the award for life, and they shouldn't stop giving it to her, from when she's 18 yo 'till she's 48 yo.
Probably she also believes something alike: "Without a stupid Abby's header in the stoppage time and without a stupid missed penalty, I'd be on the podium at Sawa's place: there's no way she's better than me!"

Well, this year Sawa was indeed better than her instead, and she should learn to live with it...

I felt some respect for Marta before yesterday, but now I have to say that she lost most of that respect in my eyes... Putting the blame on her partners then, it's not only unfair, it's utterly ridicolous. She should learn that football is a team-sport, where you fight together with your team-mates and you don't throw them down from the bus as you like it.
She should learn from Sawa herself how do you play in a team, for a team, and motivating and respecting your own team...

    Packing the trophies

    What does Kinga say?

And an interview with Sasaki making some sort of joke .....

    Kinga says:
I realize anew that I am playing with a great player everyday.

    Sasaki was serious.
He later said that he had been thinking of some joke, but he couldn't do that because he was very nervous.

I'd say Marta has a burden too heavy to carry on her shoulders. She was chosen the best of the world five times in a row and even then almost nothing changed in the women's football scenery in Brazil. Women's football is not popular here, she's riding against the wave. It must be really frustrating for her.

Anyway, Sawa's election was more than deserved and I am very happy for her. Here's an article I wrote about Sawa:

    http://www.asianfootballfeast.com/2012/01/11/sawa-caps-stellar-year/

It's my first one at this website, and I hope I can help spread the word on the japanese women's football too :)

Lol, I had already seen the interview: it's super-fun. :p
In that photo she must have been... like 16? Looks like those video from Sawa at high-school that were around some time ago, when she was sporting a quite clumsy bob cut... ^__^

Yeah, GunnerTNB, it was a good article, keep up the good work!
We need to spread Nadeshiko word around the world. ;)
The more people hears/talks about Nadeshiko girls, the better.
Reading it, I got the feeling that in the end you finished watching the video about Nadeshiko league, didn't you? (By the way, mumf, did you watch it? What do you think about it?).

I am sorry if maybe I let myself go a little, talking about Marta, but I really, really didn't like her behaviour during the Gala. She's a great player, no doubt, maybe the greatest that has played in women's football, considering her age and her career yet, but she has to learn some humility anyway. And I can understand the difficult moment in brazilian soccer and how that fact can impact her mood, but nonetheless she should have recognized how, if only for this year, Sawa had been better than her...

I had written a post some days ago about difficulties of women's football everywhere in the world: it's really sad that a country with so many inhabitants lile Brazil and with a so strong tradition in males' football can't find a way to support women's football, despite being graced by a 5-times-Player-of-the-Year... :(
On the other hand, I have explained above how another nation with a great football tradition like mine keeps debating in similar problems about women's football... *sigh*

Mmm, I wonder if they'll really manage to play next season, or if they're in INAC mostly to learn, grow up, and play some minutes as subs...

Especially Kyokawa, has some two girls called Kawasumi and Ohno ahead of her, in her role (not counting also Takase). Big shoes to fill if she wants to play...

Oh, I wish I could be there: According to this German article, INAC is going to play a training match against 1. FFC Frankfurt in Turkey. Frankfurt will be there for a training camp from 28 Jan to 4 Feb and will also play Swedish club Göteborg and Norwegian club Stabaek.

Asano Nagasato is currently in Potsdam visiting her sister.

    (Article on Potsdam's website)

Asano has also participated in the Potsdam practice sessions, just out of interest (the coach has confirmed that they're not looking to sign her), and the article says that she found it much more exhausting, and that the team has a much higher level, than what she's used to in Beleza. Potsdam focuses more on physical fitness, and they run and play faster, she says. Potsdam usually practises twice a day, and Asano found it so exhausting that she "spent a lot of her time in Potsdam sleeping". :D

Wow, I wish I could be there too... Probably INAC will stop in Turkey while travelling to (or from) Barcelona, where they have to play with Barcelona FC at the end of January: it's likely that they decided to exploit the fact that they were travelling to Europe to plan some other friendly matches, since they were at it.

I have to say that I like very much the friendly matches' program that INAC planned (beginning with the Arsenal match in Japan last december).
Since there is no inter-continental competitions for clubs in the women's football, and since there is neither international competitions similar to FIFA Champions' League for women clubs in Asia, INAC decided to start a cycle of friendly matches with the best european teams... That's a good way to improve a yet-stellar team by confronting with the women's football elite clubs.
And if INAC players improve, all the Nadeshiko National Team improves too (5 players already playing in Europe, + INAC players getting, if possible, better and better with more international experience with club: adding all that we get an hell of an expert team! :D).

I also like a lot the choice of the teams to confront with. 1.FFC Frankfurt doesn't need presentation. Stabaek FK played in Champions' League vs Frankfurt this fall (or this late summer) and it seems to me that there are some norwegian National Team members between their players (including Melissa Wiik, if I am not wrong): Norway had a poor performance at WWC, but they are always a powerhouse in women's football. I don't know much about Göteborg club, instead, but I assume it's similar in power (and swedish football is also traditionally high-level).

Now we understand why japanese players say that they go abroad to "improve physically" (and we also understand what Saki Kumagai meant in her last interview by sc-f that we recently commented on this thread).

I've heard from Patrice Lair's camp, they weren't sure they were going to sign so I don't know if Yomiuri is jumping the gun, but one thing is sure, she impressed there.

I think all the info they got from this trial they got from her at Narita and she at least must have said that she's going back in February... but you're right, nothing's signed yet.

It's very old news (july 2011), so you probably all read this article already, but it seems like Otaki had a very clear head about what she wanted... :D
