Looks like Pekerman is going to be hired as Colombia's new manager.

Thoughts? Opinions? Advice on what us Colombian fans should expect?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Expect to almost always take the lead with really nice possession, and then have your best attackers subbed out to preserve a 1-0 lead regardless of the opposition.

10 veces mejor DT que Bielsa, 10 veces menor prensa.

Como argentino me muero de envidia...

    Estoy de acuerdo Volrath.

Google tabarez's quotes about the influence Pekerman had on him.

Google the 2006 WC highlights for La Albiceleste, and watch clips of the last time Argentina played like Argentina is supposed to.

I'd take Pekerman back in a second for Argentina..

The Pekerman era was a great time to be an Albiceleste fan. Like Cigar_City said, that was the last time Argentina played like Argentina was supposed to be playing.

Expect your team to have possession of the ball, expect them to string passes together like a real team should, expect them to defend and attack as a team, as an organized unit.

Wow, I'm really excited for the feedback.

He does not like to play risky?

Argentina 2006 was my favorite team.... unlucky they did not go further.

Great, I cannot wait to see how the likes of Guarin, James, Muriel, Falcao, Sanchez will play with Pekerman.

They're not unlucky, they lost because Pekerman made same mistakes for third times

He subbed Roman against Croatia and they lost 3-2 from winning 2-1
He subbed Roman against England and they lost 3-2 from winning 2-1
He subbed Roman against Germany when the lead 1-0, then Ballack became dominant and German equalized.

Also, when playing at knockout stage against big team, its still same old story... beaten 4-1 by Brazil at Confederation final.

Pekerman is good coach but nothing more, the last time Argentina won against powerhouse team in a tournament was 1998 (England) then in 2004 (Uruguay)

Yea they look awesome against Serbia, but against team like that even Diego team could win 4-1 or 5-0

Argentina needs a coach that can make them beating a big side in a tournament . I dont care whether the goal came from solo run or passing moves because win is win and lost is a lost no matter what the scoreline.

Pekerman is fine coaching kids, he did very well with the Argentina Under 20 side, but he's not up to managing proper grown up teams. And beware, if in a game you are in a winning and looking very comfortable, Pekerman will make substituions that will end up with Colombia losing the matching. As Rattlehead has pointed out, grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory of Jose's speciality.

If I were a Colombian fan I'd be super excited.

I think his greatest strength will getting Colombia goals. With all the strikers you have, Falcao, Teofilo, Jackson, Dayro, you really don't score much.

I think I'd really like to see the development of James Rodriguez under Pekerman more than anything... He is the type of player Pekerman thrives on making better

I'd also be interested to see if Giovanni Moreno returns to the Colombian team. If healthy, he could be useful, especially from free kicks which has been a weakness for colombia i've seen.

Question to the Colombians, did Yepes retire from your seleccion?

Pekerman is a fantastic coach. Those that complain about him only see the negative side. The best game I could recall us playing in the last 6 years was the the game against Brazil, a 3-1 victory. He got the team playing great, and that is something I miss. He gave the team a identity. There were many let downs, but this is always the case when you are so close but yet so far away. I don't know who some people want to coach the NT but Pekerman,Bianchi and Bielsa would be my top 3 choices in no specific order.

Colombia should be lucky that they got a great coach. As I said earlier he will give your team an identity. Be aware of Colombia, they could be a team in 2014 that nobody wants to really face.

it will be interesting to see if/how pekerman incorporates Gio Moreno in the mix as he is the closest thing we have to a playmaker. James is a great attacker but more in the mold of an iniesta type attacker.

i do hope pekerman has enough sense to keep yepes out of the picture.

I like Gio, when he plays well his team does well. I think if he does use Gio he could be useful, he just needs to stay healthy. Colombia has a lot of talent, they just need it to click(Sounds like a similar tune).

I am looking at Colombia's road to the WC and it's tricky. Colombia's next two will be tough, away at Lima and Quito, so the road for Pekerman can be tough. Getting any points on the road is a victory, taking away points from a home side is a positive for the away side. Dropping 5 points at home in the previous two rounds is basically what costs Leonel his job. The following round from these two games will be at home vs Uruguay and away at Santiago against . The positive is that there are 4.5 half spots still open, but teams like Peru and Venezuela have gotten much better. They are managed well and have good players.

agree Supamario - i think we dropped some serious points against venezuela at home in the last round. i am not too upset that we dropped 3 points to you guys as it was expected (by me at least).

we need all 6 points against peru/ecuador - because against chile/uruguay in september will make/break pekerman/colombia.

    ecuador/peru - i expect 6 points (i don't care about playing away, etc.)
chile/uruguay - i would be content with 2 points provided we get all 6 in the prior 2 rounds...

The thing about Gio Moreno is that even if he plays like crap, he can change the game with his free kicks. And he can also be useful guarding on set pieces, and i've seen him clear many shots off the line in such situations

I wanted Gio at River so badly. On some River boards a few colombian fans brought him up and how he was going to go to Argentina at his agent's wish, but River ignored him and we got Acevedo and Caruso instead... and we bought Roman for more money than Racing bought Gio for... The rest they say, is history...

The funny thing is, we should make a thread on Diego Simeone now. This guy tried to ruin Alexis, mainly putting him on the bench with Augusto in his place. He hurt Abelaires, making him change positions, and he also seriously hurt Gio's game. I can't believe Atletico Madrid hired him... even falcao couldn't score more than 6 goals per tournament for him at River

I'm wondering the same plus if he'll have a better consideration on Teofilo Gutierrez.

With all due respect for Colombia and its fans but the main thing that is needed to make Colombia a great footballing nation is a PSYCHOLOGIST. No matter of qualified or skilled DT will change Colombian futbol without first getting the Colombian player to understand HOW TO WIN.

During the Maturana era, Colombia played like a powerhouse nation. The only problem was that they never played well when it mattered. Skill being equal the only way to achieve this is thru the proper training of the mind.

    Pekerman should understand this.

Colombia has always treated the ball well and should be able to play Pekerman's game. Just as long as the players don't get nervous and feel the need to score immediately.

It's an improvement and expect Colombia to finish in the top 4.

Superb posts. I've always said if there is a new South American nation to win the WC it will be Colombia. They've never had a great offense and defense at the same time: during the Maturana era the offense excelled with Valderrama, Rincon, Redin, Asprilla, Valencia, Uzuriaga, the best players of the next generation were mostly defensive: O Cordoba, Serna, Bermudez, Yepes, I Cordoba, Perea. If they can integrate both sides of the field, expect them to go far in the WC.

Both of you have short memories! Pekerman as well, but I would suggest that for him it has more to due with Grondona than with Argentina.

The loss to Colombia 5-0 is still fresh in my memories. More so is the agonizing taunts hurled at anything Argentine between the summer of 93 and the summer of 94, which was the World Cup.

So please speak for yourself when you say that you wish them well. Personally, if they dont have the blue and white on, they are the enemy.

With all that said, I still see them in the Top 4 and consider them a formidable force in the qualies for 2014. Also with Pekerman at the helm, I will be watching them with great interest and will root for them when their winning will in no way interfere with Argentina's progress! lol

And you have a short fuse. I never said I root for Colombia, they are not even my second favorite team in South America...I do believe however that of Paraguay, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela and Colombia, it is the Colombians who would win a WC if a new SA nation were ever to win it (kind of like Spain for Europe).
