RSL 2012 Schedule: http://www.realsaltlake.com/schedule lets all over analyze the shit out of this thing back to LA to start the season. Perfect time to face them it's a bit strange that we don't know who we'll play on that first home game yet... July is going to be ********ing brutal
Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 somebody got carried away on the copy / paste with Rio Tinto Stadium - for a minute there was thinking we played the whole month of July at home so what's going on the first two weeks of June?
Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 they did the same thing in August when I was just scanning through I thought "man we play at home a lot this year" the coordination on this release has been very MLS up to par... meaning really shitty. Take a look at other teams websites/schedules and you'll see TBA dates where other teams say they are playing them.
Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 Things I dont like: 5 out of the first 7 games are at home. How many times have I/we harped on having early home games at Rio Tinto, attendance will be low, weather is highly unpredictable. Save as many of our home games for AFTER Memorial Day as possible. 5 of the first 7 is ridiculous and the weather will surely be awful. July (when we might have the CCL prelims) is going to be absolutely PACKED, we're looking at 8 games in July alone potentially. Hopefully the CCL prelims are in June when there are only 4 games. No Colorado to finish the season? What the eff, come on MLS. I realize we didnt finish with them last year, but at least it was the second to last game. (also, there are A LOT typos on that schedule as far as home team away team and dates under the wrong month).
Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 At the RioT 3/17 vs NYRB 3/24 vs Chivas 4/4 vs Montreal 4/7 vs cRapids 4/28 vs TFC 5/5 vs NER 5/26 vs FCD 6/20 vs LAG 6/23 vs SJ 7/4 vs Seattle (now that's a 4th of July game!) 7/7 vs PDX 7/21 vs cRapids (2nd time, no it won't be diluted) 7/27 vs Van 8/18 vs FCD (2nd time) 9/1 vs DCU 9/22 vs PDX (2nd time) 10/27 vs Van (2nd time) Away from the RioT 3/10 @ LAG 3/31 @ PDX 4/14 @ SuKC (Don't play at RioT) 4/21 @ SJ 4/25 @ FCD 5/9 @ Chicago 5/12 @ Seattle 6/16 @ Chivas 6/30 @ CBus (Don't play at RioT) 7/14 @ SJ (2nd time) 7/18 @ Seattle (2nd Time) 8/4 @ cRapids (ROAD TRIP) 8/11 @ Van 8/24 @ Philly (Don't play at RioT) 9/6 @ Houston (Don't play at RioT) 9/29 @ Chivas (2nd Time) 10/6 @ LAG (2nd Time) So... we don't get to see Chicago, SuKC, CBus, Philly, or Houston at the RioT we don't get to go to DC, NY, Montreal, Toronto, or New England we play cRapids, Dallas, Portland, Vancouver, Seattle, and LA 3 times

Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 If this "winter" is any indication of how "spring" will be... attendance numbers should be just fine in regards to weather concerns. School night problems, though, will be abundant for weekday games
Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 Only one trip back east to Phlly? I like that. Other than that the only longer travel is @CHI/CBus/Hou (and in Sept not July/Aug!) I like that too. Crapids and Dallas twice at home, excellent! Awesome 4th game, check! Twice @ SEA and LA will be tough but we usually play them well at their fields. Plus we get SJ and Chivas as our other twice travel to isn't that bad. All in all I'm not upset with the schedule. I'd take Dallas twice at home over LA or Seattle. Yeah, I like the schedule.
this probably does need it's own thread. Anybody else find it strange (yet awesome) we don't have a single day game scheduled this entire season? If we are going to win or have a run at the SS, we need to be at the top of the table come August. That road stretch to finish the season, while not as bad as last season, is going to be brutal. Add in CCL matches and it becomes a nightmare. One thing that is strange to me: We host a 4th of July game, like always, yet we don't have a 24th of July game at all...?
Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 RSL is the home opener for Portland (edit, no its not, Portland vs Philly is the Timbers home opener, my bad), hopefully I can get tickets to that game, they'll probably be expensive and all my friends who have season tickets probably wont give me a ticket unless i sit with them in the Non-RSL/away section. Which means I would put them in the highly uncomfortable spot of sitting next to an RSL fan. The ones in the timbers army, not sure I would be comfortable doing that. I'll try and go through the RSL ticket office and grab a ticket in the away section. Also, we get the Galaxy at home on 10/6 which is two days after the Utes play USC at Rice Eccles. That could be an awesome weekend, hopefully I get into the U's graduate program and I can catch both of those. EDIT: shit, the LAG on 10/6 is in Cali, not at home. poop.
According to the media version of the press release, RSL is doing Pioneer Day fireworks at the 7/21 game. I can understand why. Tuesday night games suck, especially when they have to kick off late due to fireworks afterwards. Those that have to be at work early the next morning wouldn't be happy.
LA doesn't have to make any trips to DC, Philly, New York, Toronto or New England. Dictators are all alike. Some even look alike.
Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 Also, RSL will play only 4 games on national tv, all of them on the new NBC Sports Network. So no games on ESPN. Portland meanwhile has 12 games on national tv including 1 on NBC and 3 on ESPN/ESPN2 (1 on galavision, the rest on the NBC Sports channel).
I am thoroughly shocked that LA doesn't have to go to NY this year. You'd think for certain NBC, Fox, or ESPN would have pushed for that game to happen. Also, I only briefly looked at it, but I don't think we are on national TV much if at all this season. And I was kinda looking forward to going to Montreal just to get the game in French.
I tried importing the schedule into my ms outlook calendar, but it is giving me an error saying the file is corrupt. Anyone else having this issue?
True but we don't have to travel to DC, Montreal, New York, Toronto or New England. So really, the trade off is @Montreal vs @Philly. Sure LA get the better since Montreal is an expansion team but that's just nit-picking IMO. Meanwhile up in Seattle they have to travel to DC, Montreal, NE, AND NY. HAHAHA, def not green with envy of them...
Only 4 national tv games, all of them on the new NBC Sports channel. Meanwhile the Timbers has 12 (!) national tv games, 1 on the main NBC channel, 3 on ESPN/ESPN2 and the rest on the NBC Sports channel with 1 also on Galavision i believe.
So from what I can gather, this stretch will probably be highly interesting and important to our CCL and SS hopes: 7/21 8:00PM MDT Real Salt Lake Colorado Rio Tinto Stadium 7/27 7:00PM MDT Real Salt Lake Vancouver Rio Tinto Stadium 8/04 7:00PM MDT Colorado Real Salt Lake Dick's Sporting Goods Park 8/11 5:00PM MDT Vancouver Real Salt Lake BC Place During this time the CCL prelims will probably start (late july/early august) and these 4 league games might be imperative to a SS push. If we get through the CCL prelims, the last 2 months will be packed with lots of travel. We'll still have big games against Dallas, @Philly, Portland and @LA with a 4 and 4 home/road split to finish out the league schedule.
Looking at things, that has the potential to be an awesome game: 2nd of 3 matches against the Crapids (the RMC has a greater chance of being actually won or lost with a 3-game series)--we could clinch, or we could send the RMC down to the wire. Plus fireworks!
Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 It's a good thing you edited this because I was going to give you a lot of reading comprehension shit
Biggest road stretch - 3 games in 11 days (April 14th-25th) KC->SJ->Dallas. 2 games in a row happens 4 times throughout. Biggest home stretch - 2 games occurs 6 times through season. Trips to the eastern time zone - 2 (Columbus and Philly) Eastern time zone teams here - 5 (NY, Montreal, Toronto, New England, D.C.) Bye week - May 19th Just was thinking how favorable this was overall for us. While the broadcasters don't seem to recognize it still I believe RSL is being rewarded for being a top team with this initial outing of the unbalanced schedule. We avoid going to Portland twice (one of the top two hardest away venues), travel is fairly light, and we get to just stay in LA for a week at the end of the season with back to back Galaxy and Chivas games. Glad to see we won't have that end of season glut of away games like last year and Seattle on July 4th will be a good time I think. Still torn on how much we need to hate the unbalanced schedule though. I think it will make the rivalries within the conference better, but I also think the upper tier of the East is going to have a much easier time overall than the West. Just an opinion.
Re: RSL Offseason News Thread 2011-12 NBC is only failing to show one team, Montreal (which does not have a game on any of the 3 national broadcasters). ESPN is showing 13 of the 19 teams, Galavision is showing 15 of the 19. For NBC, New York and Philly get the most games (8 each) followed by Houston, LA and Portland (7), then Seattle and Chicago (6). For ESPN, LA gets the most (8) followed by New York (7), Seattle (6), Philly (4), the rest 3 or fewer. For Galavision, Chivas is tops (8) followed by New York and Chicago (6) then Dallas, DC, and LA (5). New York has the most games across the three networks (21, 62% of New York's 34 games) followed by LA (20, 59%), Chicago and Philly (14, 41%), 6 teams with 12 games (35%). Excel rocks.
Western Conference (9 Teams - 24 Games) LAG - A...H...A SEA - A...H...A FCD - A...H...H COL - H...H...A PTL - A...H...H SJE - A...H...A CHV - H...A...A VAN - H...A...H *Not too bad in Home vs Away allotment Eastern Conference (10 Teams - 10 Games) NYR - H CBS - A PHI - A DCU - H SKC - A (this one will be hard for us) CHI - A HOU - A NER - H (They must HATE this one.. .RioT has been hard on them!) TOR - H MTL - H
Yeah, at first glance the travel doesn't look *too* onerous, however... Playing two games @ LAG (the best team last year) and @ SSFC (the 2nd best team last year) in the same year sucks. With that said, the situation will be reversed next year according to this MLSsoccer.com article, so in 2013, RSL will host LAG and SSFC twice.
