I was thinking the same thing since I have been fooled so many times already with other names. :p

That said, looks like Colombian websites are confirming that he has agreed in principle and Wikipedia already has him listed as DT (As "reputable" as they are.)

Great present going into the new year if true.

Well, there is no news saying he has turned down the FED's offer so that is good news so far. There is just a denial that he accepted the job which could all be legalities.

La noticia la dió Jesurum, y según este hay acuerdo de palabra, a la hora salió Bedoya a desmentir

Pekerman's success with Argentina heavily relied on #10 JRR who was the orchestrator of their attack and who at one point was arguably one of the top #10's out there in the mid-late 2000s.

My concern with him is that he excluded players like Walter Samuel and Javier Zanetti from the 2006 World Cup team - so hopefully he doesn't do anything foolish like that like exclude someone like Aquivaldo or Sanchez like Lara did during his dictatorship

I think we can all agree that the team used in the copa america plus James, Dorlan and GioM should be our main team going forward.

Pekerman will definitely bring to the table tactics and a type of approach that has been lacking with our NT for many years now.

i think with the proper tactics we will be able to put up 3+ goals more frequently than we have in prior years.

the days of bunkering down and playing for 1-0 victories need to stop

He did use Riquelme and Aimar extensively, but I think he is more flexible than he gets credit for, and he IS one of the key developers of Messi's talent during the 05-06 period. I would be delighted to have him work with James, for example.

Most important thing we could start to do with him is play into space and move without the ball. This was a hallmark of his teams, and something we NEVER do.

    If he signs...

For those interested in learning more about Pekerman and his recent hiatus, here is an interview he gave to El Grafico in November:

    http://www.elgrafico.com.ar/2011/12/20/C-3981-aqui-pekerman.php

He's apparently turned down Chile, Japan, Australia, Peru and South Korea since 09.

RCN has revised their story since last night and claim now that his acceptance is imminent. Specifically, they now claim that Pekerman has informed his staff that he will take the job and there are various Argentine sports media figures (including one I saw this am on Twitter from ESPN) who are reporting this.

    http://www.rcnradio.com/noticias/editor/jose-pekerman-un-paso-de-dirig-127948

If this turns out to be a prank, I'd lose all respect/credibility perceived of RCN.

In the shirt on the field....

What excites me about Pekerman is his youth teams experience and how great it would be if he pulls a Bielsa and commands all levels of the NT. We need to fix our crappy youth teams asap. The better they play the more younger players get sold to better euro or big South American squads. It makes our players more attractive abroad and more expensive. I'd kill for us to be able to sell a player for how much Chile sold Vidal and Vargas directly to europe for. We are stuck with all these $1.5 million dollar deals no matter how good our guy is.

I just really want us to have a coach. As for the #10, as long as he puts James there and makes him a modern #10 like Xavi then I am happy. If he brings G10 or Candelo in to the NT then might really just make me give up on the NT.

we really only have 5 WTF players. If Falcao, Guarin, James, Armero or Sanchez aren't call then it's like WTF. We don't have guys to replace them and really kills our team. I say if we had Falcao, Guarin and Sanchez healthy for the two last games Leonel would still have a job and Colombia would at least be tie in points with Uruguay.

People tend to think Zuniga is irreplaceable but he doesn't play at RB in Italy and he really isn't world class nor offers our team what those 5 guys do. Ospina is a good goalie but isn't really irreplaceable. I'd exchange him for Nelson Ramos, Neko or any other keeper in our league. Who else in our team is that big of a deal?

Zanetti is a great LB but at 38 he is too fing old for a NT, also it's Argentina they have like 20 guys to replace him.

I want our next coach to make our style a little more modern, make us faster, and make us score goals. I do not see why we can't play like Uruguay or a Argentina when they play well. I want him also to work with the youth team coaches as bad youth teams = future shitty Senior teams.

Our next coach needs to incorporate strategy that enables our players to move effectively off the ball as mentioned earlier by RYU - that is probably our biggest weakness.

i do agree agree somewhat about Ospina - Neko did a good job as GK for the copa america. Ospina would have probably had the same challenges against peru.

as for zuniga - the fact that he doesnt play RB for his club does worry me long term at the international stage. he is our version of dani alves, but i would like to see him become that playmaker from the Right side....

as for zanetti - don't get me started on him. even at 38, he is still Argentina's best option for RB/LB which is sad because Argentina has not been able to develop anybody else (Zabaleta has become quite the utility player in recent times) but Zanetti is still world class - the guy plays 50 games a year and shows no signs of slowing down. w/e - i'm going off on a tangent. my only complaint about pekerman over the years was the exclusions of zanetti from 2006 WC.
