Other than rules or injury I don't see what should stop Bale from being a sure thing tbh.

Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley, Jordan Henderson, Theo Walcott, Andy Carroll & Danny Welbeck would all be underage eligible I believe.

Yes but I wouldn't expect anyone to go to the Euros and the Olympics.

I think an African team will win the olympics

A limited edition supporters kit? Yea that sounds about right tbh, they won't get nearer an actual Team GB kit than that. ;)

You do realise that those where real pictures from a real photo shoot right?

I'm not sure is true but it seems like hope powell (gb coach of the women team ) called some non english players for a camp to prepare the olympics....

Good news for local miners...

Huh? We're talking about Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey in a GB mostly-under 23 team, yeah? Rip-cock-off-to-get-those-players kinda territory, surely?

No it's more of a Welsh-players-not-allowed-to-play-for-a-English-national-team kind of territory tbh.

true and you have to look at the Wales team.
About 60% of their current squad are English grandparent rule picks. haha

Sad to say it ,but the team has to fail or Pearce will be a lock to replace Capello. Clownstein and Brooking already love the idiot .

That is my big worry, if Pearce gets the likes of Bale and Ramsey then it will be a real struggle to miss out on a medal.

Except that it is an English team. There is no Great British FA and thus Great Britain cannot enter a team or pick a squad.

For goodness sake, why not do a little bit of reading and research? It's the Olympics and therefore a British team.

You're going to have to explain how the likes of Gareth Bale can be selected for an England team when he's tied by FIFA rules to playing for Wales.

From page 5 of the regulations of the Olympic football tournament:
And from page 12 of the same regulations:
The rules state quite explicitly that it is not the BOA that enters a team into an Olympic competition, it is the English FA entering a team into a FIFA tournament. Of course as it is being run under the Olympics everything gets a bit more complicated, at least on the surface, but I don't see the regulations giving any leeway at all on this matter tbh.

And yes I am aware that the word is that non-English players have been asked to join the squad.

What? I have never said they could be, in fact I have, repeatedly, stated quite clearly that I think they can't be.

He's basically looked up something that says "yeah, if your Olympic committee doesn't mind, we won't stop you running the team for 'em" and misinterpreted the bejeezus out of it. If not, someone really needs to tell the BOA to take the Cardiff game tickets off sale!

Sinner78: As an Arsenal fan, maybe he wants Ramsey rested? Could be his angle. Seems quite tiresome either way.

How pissed off will the FAW be with this situation if Bale and Ramsey do go. Their two best players playing in this for a coach they have no control over when their first WC qualifier will be less than a month after Olympic football is finished.

That is before you even get into club issues.

I quoted the actual competition regulations and the best come back you have is to try and mock me? Got to do better than that tbh.

It it was allowed I'd have no issues with Ramsey going to the Olympics. Sure it messes with the start of the season matches but the Olympics is still a decent international tournament and such experience is rarely bad for a young player.

Just to toss in my little stick of dynamite.

With regards qualification for a British team. Yes, it is being run by the English FA. And yes, we will see if the likes of Bale sign up.

Yes, as long as players qualify for their home FA, and there is a working NOC, then they can play. Of course, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are a slight anomaly in FIFA in that there is NO working internationally recognised government (Home rule does not count!). Because each one is a constituent nation of the UK, and all the players have the same passport.

This allows the wiggle room needed by the BOA to pick players. Whilst Bale does not qualify for the FA, he does qualify for the BOA. All the FA is doing is running the thing. All the letters that go out are from the BOA.
