September 11 WCQ v. Jamaica They haven't set the venue for this yet, but ... ... it is on TUESDAY, September 11, which is only the second Tuesday, September 11 since ... umm ... Tuesday, September 11. AND ... in the 2010 cycle, the USMNT qualified for the final qualifying round on the fourth match ... and the 9/11 match is the fourth match. So ... is it off base of me to point this out, and to *HOPE* <crossed fingers> that this match is venued in NYC? And to ask all USMNT and Americans alike to attend this vital match?
Re: September 11 WCQ v. Jamaica if you want the whole stadium to be black yellow green what have you, then you smoke quality drugs my fellow BS user.
Re: September 11 WCQ v. Jamaica If they put this game on 9/11 in NYC, expect to be walking through metal detectors, pat downs, extra lines etc. I think USSF would want to avoid what could be perceived as a major security threat.

Re: September 11 WCQ v. Jamaica Indeed. While I can certainly see the symbolism of putting it in NYC, what about an equally historically patriotic locale like Boston/Foxborough or Philly/Chester? Although...I have a friend who got married on 9/10/11 in north Jersey, which meant a lot of flights out of NYC on 9/11/11. From what I heard, no one experienced any major issues. I would think that anyone looking to cause trouble would pick the 10th anniversary over a Tuesday anniversary.
Re: September 11 WCQ v. Jamaica Chester is the best place. Small scenic location, and Jamaican fans will be far less in numbers, even though there will be some driving from NYC and DC guaranteed.
Re: September 11 WCQ v. Jamaica Actually yeah it might. I think quite a few Jamaicans live in Florida.
I plan on going with at least 3 others. Just waiting on ticket information. Looking forward to a week of vacation and a US away qualifier victory.
yep, right in the heart of kingston. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_Park_(Jamaica) here's good map: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=18.0026111&lon=-76.7748374&z=15&l=0&m=b looks to be really close to New Kingston where all the hotels/nightlife are, gotta assume it's walking distance, no? (safety aside)
As a person familiar with Kingston, I wouldnt advise you guys to walk in certain areas of kingston...better off taking a taxi...but use an official/licensed taxi.
I get that there are sketchy parts, but curious as the walking from New Kingston to the stadium. Mostly from a distance perspective.
How sketchy is daytime sketchy? Nights can obviously be dangerous, but are things really sketchy during the day?
you should be fine...just remember jamaica has been murder capital of the world in many years in past..cause of kingston..but its a decent size city...but just take precaution. kingston is not a tourist place really
Yeah and I just checked the UN for stats. Murder rates have dropped more than 60% since 2005 when they peaked. So that's a good thing. Don't know if they included the 70+ deaths that occurred when trying to catch the Jamaican Escobar, Chris Coke. But whatever, they caught him and murder rates have dropped. Still...don't know if the game is in Kingston anyway.
Planning on going to the game with some AO El Paso people (September 5-10). Trying to convince AZ folks to make it out for the game. We're planning on staying here. (All Inclusive=Unlimited Drinking and Eating) http://www.iberostar.com/EN/Montego-Bay-hotels/Iberostar-Rose-Hall-Beach/All-inclusive.html http://www.costcotravel.com/#17_caribbean_MBJ_JamaicaIberostarRoseHallBeach_jamaica____ With airfare, it should be $1400 per person. We're just looking for tickets to the game and a shuttle to and from the game. Its an hour and a half drive to Kingston so using a taxi is a no go. Right now, the only problem I've having is arriving in Montego Bay on the 5th. In order to do that, most options are... Arrive in the Bay at night (lose a whole day) Leave at night on the 4th, have a layover of 12+ hours. And that goes for both Tucson and Phoenix. So it should be fun.
Since the game is in kingston you are better staying in ocho rios...you can hire a driver to and from kingston for the day which everyone can split which shouldnt be too expensive.
