I guess the two former Juvisy teammates Bouhaddi didn't like were too important to the national team for Bini not to take their side over Bouhaddi's.

OK, that's random. Bini may have to rethink his decision regarding Henry soon though. Soubeyrand won't last forever, and If France want to maintain their current standards, they need a ready made replacement/upgrade as good as Henry.

Do you see things changing in the next 3 years regarding Henry's chances for future national team selection?

No, or Bini will have to remove like 6 or 7 players from selection in order to have Henry back on. It's like a sorority, if you upset one you upset a lot of players.

    That sounds familiar...

So is the French squad composition (barring injury) expected to change between WWC and Olympics? Who's likely to make the smaller roster size?

Let me gently point you to this place for that type of discussion, lest you should not be taken seriously here.

I see! Surely you mean "Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work, and on the seventh day shalt thou watch football"?

    Borrowed from Frauenbundesliga...
Clearly the voting happened before this picture was published. How cute is this?

I would agree that Landis looks proud of them, somehow, even without her face showing. But I'm not sure about 'Mummy'; after all, they're wearing their socks on grass, and I don't know any Mummys who approve of that. Though it's nice that they're ordered themselves so tidily (23=11+12).

It's also nice to be reminded how tall Landis is; one forgets that, when one sees so many pictures of her next to Schelin. One wonders in fact how she could ever fail to score a goal on a corner kick.

'Tho really it should be more like |23-11|=12; that is, if you take #23's height and subtract from it #11's height, you get the negative of #12's height. Lordy, those are some short defenders.

And a very happy Fourth Advent to you. Gee whiz, five solid weeks of Christmas. This would have been a good year for a proper advent calendar, as next year we'll get an entire week less of chocolate.

Did you happen to watch the Essen-Frankfurt match today? Garefrekes patting Percival on the head after her (G's) goal was rather cute. :D
    (Highlights)

What kind of strange advent calendars do you have where you are? Ours have 24 little doors never mind how the Sundays fall.

    Advent, Advent, ein Lichtlein brennt!
Erst eins, dann zwei, dann drei, dann vier,
dann steht das Christkind vor der Tür.
(Und wenn das fünfte Kerzlein brennt,
dann hast du Weihnachten verpennt.)

Well I have now, yes, and it is a bit of a reach down for her... so that's Percival, eh? What's her height, do you reckon... 170 or so?

Doubletake edit: Was that Thunebro in a black headband? I didn't recognize her!

I am an adult newcomer to the whole Advent thing, but my understanding, based on local tradition, is that starts on the 4th Sunday before Christmas and therefore varies in length. Isn't that what your song says? Of course we also have fireworks on First Advent, which I have been told is a very local peculiarity.

And speaking of holiday traditions, how's the Krahn-pus getting on these days? Still got her goat feet and demon horns?

(I know, I know, the calendars seem to just start with December 1 but surely that's just a post-industrial, profit-driven innovation intended to standardize Advent calendars so that the capitalists can try to resell the stock of last year's leftovers.)

You're so mean. :D Remember, she's "Garefrekes", not "Giraffrekes". Percival is 1.61m.

Oh, I see. Well, "Legalise pyrotechnics, respect emotions" is a popular slogan among certain football "fans" in Germany...

Not to mention the Duisburg captain's ball and chain that's dragging on her...

1.61, wow. Poor tyke. (Are you serious, 1.61? Oh dear.)

I read here that Krampus is making some inroads with Americans who are sick of the never-ending sickly-sweet Christmas crap. Note that, for one family, if Krampus takes you it means you'll have to eat spiced vegetables. A fate worse than a whipping, to an American child?

I do recommend this video to all, to see what Austrians can get up to for yuletide. Freaking people out, rolling women around in cages, whips, drums, fires, hat-stealing, child-snatching... the fun never ends. (or rather it lasts about 8 minutes.)

Why, thank you, ma'am. Let's hope they cover how to get to their bloody ground (something which I've had no luck with so far).

From the Team Sweden thread, but put here because I want to address a more general issue and also include those who don't give a cold greasy meatball about Sweden but may have something to say about that bird-themed social networking medium.

Well, we have all gotten some chuckles, to say very least, out of what people do with their bird-themed networking, it's true... and as a source of news and reminders and links the thing is useful... and it's fun to use it to create a virtual pub, in which other fans make observations on a game in real time... But I agree that it's kinda silly for 'real media' to report on bird noises as being metaphysically important. WWC2011 set records. Yeah, and how long did that last? And... so what? That's reporting on crowd noise as a measure of game quality.

And as for the 'more fun to live vicariously' part, I agree with you, and for the most part I am happy to let the people writing in these threads be my tweet guts, so that I only have to read the scat that remains after they've done the hard work of digestion.

Just to make it all fake-educational, I present for your consideration the following Swedish expression: "Som de gamla sjunga, så kvittra de unga."
Translation: "As the old ones sing, so will the young ones tweet."

"So wie die Alten sungen, so zwitschern auch die Jungen."

(If you're learning German, don't mind the grammar, it's due to the rhyme.)

And while I'm here, here is the latest advertising - and Photoshop - effort from Germany (recognise her?):

Can we just stop that sentence right there? Everyone trying to learn it would be so much happier.

I for one did not recognize her. I assumed she must be a vampire, holding her hands up in defense because she's been caught unawares by the sunlight, against a minimalist, expressionist 'Dr. Caligari'-inspired backdrop, rendered by someone with a fine sense of the dramatic but a poor sense of optics. (The shadow doesn't quite match the profile, if you know what I mean...)

I've already found the sports bra she's wearing at an online U.S. store.

    :D

I needed one anyway. No, really. I did.

Did it still smell of her shower gel/perfume/gentle glow?

Or is she a patchouli oil girl? Ha haaa! (Bluurch)

    Y'know, I'm a petty ********. I freely admit this. :D

I could NOT be even remotely attracted to anyone that smelled of such. There's just way too many memories of nouveau 90s hippie funk covered with patchouli.

Even if Bresonik offered to ... well, if patchouli's involved, it's not happening.
