Salzburg gave up two goals in the first six minutes but fought their way back to win 3-2 in Bratislava. That was enough to keep Salzburg ahead of PSG and advance the Austrians to the next round. Austria Wien won 2-0 at home to Malmö FF, but they finished third, one point behind AZ Alkmaar. Sturm Graz was in a very promising group but finished last with only three points after losing the final match at home to AEK Athens.
Austria Wien and AZ Alkmaar finished with 8 points each. Both head-to-head games were 2-2 and AZ Alkmaar advanced on goal differential, +3 to -1.
