Re: WIll not be sanctioned with 5 teams Because it's USSF and they don't give a sh!t about how other leagues in other sports worked. =-P Besides, since they already have an eight-team rule AND part of WPS' presentations was its "extensive expansion pipeline", there really wasn't a reason to NOT make it a requirement. I mean, WPS has said (or at least hinted at) having eight or more by 2013, so it's more of a stability requirement than an expansion requirement. My impression is that it's basically saying "okay, you've gotten to slide for the past three years, and we'll give you another two, but if you can't meet standards by year six then our tolerance will have run out". It also gives WPS an ultimatum - or, an unambiguous set of goalposts, to put it nicer - I'm guessing this definite timeline basically means the yearly sanctioning dealio will be nothing more than a "we've got all the boxes checked" process, rather than the whole evaluation thing that's happened each of the past few years.
