Not much love for the coupes this year but I figured since the big boys finally joined the Coupe de France with the draw tonight they were worth a thread, will we see another Calais? Nimes? or maybe a Guingamp (to the fears of the french coefficient).

    Round of 32 draw:

Luçon VF (CFA) - Avranches US (CFA)
Cherbourg AS (Nat) - Châteauroux (L2)
    Sablé-sur-Sarthe FC (CFA2) - Sedan Ardennes CS (L2)
Chambly Thelle FC (CFA2) - AJ Auxerre (L1)
Chantilly US ou le Portel (DH) - Lille (L1)
    Limoges FC (CFA2) - Boulogne Côte d'Opale US (L2)
Chamois Niortais FC (Nat) - Brest (L1)
    Saint-Etienne (L1) - Bordeaux (L1)

Ajaccio GFCO (Nat) - Toulouse (L1)
    Thiers SA (CFA2) - Istres FC (L2)
Valence AS (CFA) - Laval (L2)
    Versailles 78 FC (DH) - Dijon (L1)
    Lyon-Duchère AS (CFA) - Lyon (L1)
    Le Havre AC (L2) - Lorient (L1)
Bourg-Peronnas FC (CFA) - Montceau Bourgogne FC (CFA2)
    Fréjus Saint-Raphaël (Nat) - Ajaccio AC (L1)

    Bastia (L2) ou Louhans-Cuiseaux (CFA2) - Sochaux Montbéliard (L1)
Red Star FC 93 (Nat) - Marseille (L1)
Mulhouse FC (CFA) - Créteil Lusitanos US (Nat)
    Angers SCO (L2) - AS Monaco (L2)
Drancy Jeanne d'Arc (CFA) - Strasbourg ARC (CFA2)
    Caen (L1) - Troyes AAC (L2)
    Marck AS (CFA2) - Nice (L1)
Prix les Mézières AS (DH) - Montpellier (L1)

Compiègne AFC (CFA) - Montagnarde Inzinzac US (CF2)
    Locminé Saint-Colomban (CFA2) - Paris Saint-Germain (L1)
Orléans 45 US (Nat) - Clermont Foot Auvergne (L2)
Metz FC (L2) - Evian Thonon Gaillard (L1)
    Vitré AS (CFA2) - Tours FC (L2)
    Le Mans FC (L2) - Valenciennes (L1)
Rennes Tour d'Auvergne (DH) - Quevilly US (Nat)
    Rennes (L1) - AS Nancy Lorraine (L1)

An old 1920ies classic with Red Star playing Marseille at home, a proper Lyon derby and Bordeaux just can't catch a break.

Yeah I am most inerested in those 2 matches (Red Star-OM, Lyon derby) I was hoping for a nice Red Star run but I think a cup run would distract from the main goal which is avoiding relegation which is more important. Its better to go out with a bang vs a marquee opponent. I was hoping for Monaco to go far as well but they got a fellow Ligue 2 team which isnt easy. Bordeaux-St. Etienne is boring and I have no interest in it.

Good chance the match will be at the SDF. Bauer only has 3,000 available seats, too small to accommondate the demand.

Steve Marlet : "Une attente incroyable"
"Mon portable n'arrête pas de sonner. Tout le monde veut déjà acheter des places (rires). C'est fantastique pour le Red Star. Cela va faire parler de nous, les gens vont peut-être s'intéresser encore davantage au club et à son projet. On sent déjà une attente incroyable. Je connais bien l'OM pour y avoir évolué et c'est toujours sympa de retrouver des équipes dans lesquelles on est passé. Ce sera un match spécial pour tout le monde, et encore un peu plus pour moi."

Thinking of it, a real, true, pure derby (Lyon) is very rare in France. La Duchère is a part of Lyon city, not a suburb.

OM-Red Star they said at SdF with a reduced 45,000 seat capacity and now it looks like it will be moved because of the high cost of RS 93 paying to using it.

The CDL isn't important at all. There's always a threat that it could get axed. If I were in charge I would set it up differently. I'd like to see it with 54 teams (18 Ligue 1, 18 Ligue 2, 18 National.) First I would knock L1, L2, N, all down to 18 clubs and make N fully pro. The way it is now its 44 teams (20 L1, 20 L2, 4 N) and a bunch of L1 teams get byes until the later rounds.

Coupe de France is much more prestigious than the League cup which was established in 1994, compared to 1917 for the Coupe De France.

The winner does get a Europa league spot though so it's a nice way for under performing club secure a European spot *cough* Marseille *cough*-

Even though we're critical of the CdL the Nice - Dijon quarter final was really great

    Nice - Dijon
    19' [0 - 1] T. Guerbert
    35' [1 - 1] A. Mounier
    62' [1 - 2] B. Jovial
    78' [2 - 2] R. Civelli
    117' [2 - 3] E. Bautheac (pen.)
    119' [3 - 3] L. Monzon
    Penalties : 5-3

Nice - Marseille in the final seems ok by me.

Dont think it will be a OM-OL final. At least one of the underdogs will win.

The attitude of Marseille supporters toward Brandao is disgusting. I don't understand how can he be welcomed like a hero ? First, he's terrible as a football player. Technically, he's very poor, he has no vision, is not doing good calls, he has nothing of a good player, not even of an average one. All he can do is fouls. Hiding himself behind the excuse "he has a lot of impact on the opponent defense" is not valid since he's not hard to deal with. The best example of a player who did not score a lot of goals - in L1 at least - but who was essential to create rooms for other players, in the air...was Morientes at Monaco. Brandao is far from it.

Secondly, he's suspected of having raped a woman...How can he be idolatred after that ? Football and everything surrounding it is crazy. Football players can do whatever they want ? As long as a girl is saying that she has been raped by a celebrity, the excuse that she wants to grab money automatically works ? I remember Larqué mocking her like if she was lying coz she supposedely slept with another player of Marseille. If you sleep with one Marseille player, you can't refuse any other player ? Pathetic. It's been a long time that he should have been fired. And his comment on the religion of Arsenal board should have been the coup de grâce but it wasn't.

The support some marseille players have shown to him during the past season was also disgusting. The fact that we're not hearing anymore about this affair of rape is also disgusting. The fact that he "ran away" from France too. If you want the justice to leave you alone, become a football player.

But wouldn't "innocent until proven guilty" apply here?

Yes, I didn't mean that he was necessary culprit. Sorry if I misworded my thought. In this kind of situation we can expect a little bit of decency from the fans and the players as well. The players should not show public support to him at least for the image of their club. And the fans as well. Welcoming him like a hero is abnormal. I also hate comments the kind of comment Larqué made. If Brandao could be innocent, the girl could have said the truth too.

Quarter Finals drawn for Coupe de France:

    Paris SG - Lyon
    Gazélec Ajaccio - Montpellier
    Quevilly - Marseille
    Valenciennes - Rennes

Good draw for Marseille and Montpellier.

First Quevilly beats OM and now GFCO Ajaccio beat Montpellier. 2 of the final 4 in the Coup de France are 3rd division sides.
