He continued: "This isn't just about me. No matter who becomes the national team coach and who gets fired, these moves should go through proper steps and procedures for the sake of South Korean football. National team coaches shouldn't be fired because of outside influences."

I'm pretty shocked. I thought the KFA would have made a decision after the game against Kuwait next year. I can't think of anyone who would want the job.

wow, i suppose KFA wouldn't disagree with that, but that could be the start of a slippery slope if others are calling the shots.

Then again, suppose you guys are just pleased somebody else did what the KFA might not have done left to their own devices.

Its not like most FAs are efficient machines of the brightest minds in football congregating in full transparency.

What had to be done was done. At least someone cared enough to get it now whether by hook or crook rather than lingering on in stasis like US and France.

If that's what you think fine. But the way they went about this makes our FA look like one of those African nations FAs we always point and laugh at.

You guys seriously want to get to the next round of WC qualifiers? Firing a coach with best results after Hiddink? Just before crucial games? Because there was pressure from sponsors?

Speaking of famous foreign coaches - now K League is in the off mode so he won't have any idea what's going on in Korea. No coach on Earth can guarantee that the team under him will be better than previous one. For any Korean coach who could be appointed I don't think there will be many willing to take this job RIGHT NOW. That could be disaster for their careers if they won't get past this round.

You guys were in deep hole earlier, now KFA brouht an excavator to make it even deeper in no time...

HJM had better results than CKR.

i agree with you though, who's gonna wanna take a job with so much pressure in their first match as manager? the leading domestic candidates seem to have turned the job down. i doubt a reputable foreign manager would even want to take on the risk of managing a NT that might not qualify for the WC. who does that leave on the shortlist?

i think the pressure is there but you guys are giving too much emphasis on this game. kuwait last time got lucky at the end if you recall and it was away and like 45 in the stadium. with the full squad we should have enough quality. im not saying its a given but im pretty sure we can get at least a draw at home....

HJM guided the KNT to the 2010 WC, and made it to the Round of 16 for the first time outside of Korea. There was also a lengthy unbeaten streak during that qualifying run.

Under Dick Advocaat, Korea won its first WC match outside of Korea, and gained a respectable 4 points in the group stages of the WC 2006.

What did CKR do? Earn third place in the Asian Cup (Pim Verbeek did that too)? Beat a B-side Serbia in a friendly? Snatch a last-minute victory against Ghana in a friendly?

Sorry Mr Chairman (or at least a man with-a-clue under nickname on Internet forum)!
There was also PJS. CKR wasn't at WC so it would be unreasonable to talk about that. CKR wouldn't lead KNT to 2014 WC? Prove that ;)
I'm glad that you brought CKR's very good record against non-Asia opposition also.

    Majster2,

Not all W/D/Ls are equal. None of those other managers led the KNT to its worst loss against Japan in approximately 40 years. None of those manager led the KNT to a dismally uninspired loss to a team ranked 100 places below it in an important match. None of those managers were alienating key young players (YBS, JDW, SHM) for absolutely no reason.

Prove that CKR wouldn't make it to the World Cup? What ridiculous logic. While you're at it, why not put the burden of proof on us to prove that CKR wouldn't beat Germany 3-1 in the finals and win the WC in its entirety? That would be just as intelligent an argument.

Based on the evidence that we have, it would be an understatement to say that the KNT would probably continue to struggle in the final round of qualifying, much less make the WC.

What would you say if I went to the Japanese forum and started criticizing Nagatomo's recent performance? A lot will agree that Nagatomo has been terrible this season, but doesn't matter, people still wouldn't take my comments very lightly.

You don't belong here. Unless you've got some nice things to say, or news to deliver, your opinions best stay out.

Winning meaningless friendly games at home means absolutely nothing. World Cup will be played in Brazil and Qatar. It will be hundred years before it ever returns to Korea.

The 2 defining games of CKR era was a friendly away game against Japan (Completely destroyed and outclassed 3-0) and WCQ match against Lebanon in Lebanon. Those 2 games are the reason CKR was fired.

I'd welcome his points of view if he didn't have the logic of a Creationist.

"Prove that CKR wouldn't have made it to the WC?" C'mon now, that's the whole "Prove that fossil records aren't some Satanic trickery" BS.

It's amusing how he thinks he can present any merit to keeping Cho Kwangrae around when none of us, not a single one out of those who watch every senior team match, want him anywhere near the national team.

    I'm sure most would agree.
Stop calling that loss against Japan more than it realy was. In AC semifinal only bad luck caused that Japan was narrowly better than Korean team. There's no next PJS yet? Blame CKR for that!

zdrav, we both know that this decission wasn't prepared. I know there were evidences that KNT might not improve under CKR and that's reasonable. But timing and the way it was decided is a pure farce, isn't it? I'd be happier if KFA would create some kind of board to assess his work and bring more serious arguments in form of report backed with numbers and opinions. Yes, I watched every KNT game under CKR, I won't repeat other's point of view on this case.
Why was CKR even chosen for this work? For me that was a promise of bringing up KNT towards the tiki taka way of playing football, so that sponsors will be happy after last year's WC fever. When it crumbled (not because tactics was bad, that has more to do with the fact that Korean youngsters aren't tought that since their childhood maybe).
Right now KFA did the same thing which we've seen in China unfortunately. They realy have to teach on their own mistakes rather than others? I think that KNT will get to the next round of qualifiers but later things can turn out to be even more nasty than they're now.

    1. Don't bring up China.
    2. That loss to Japan was seismic... Heads should have rolled on the spot right there and then.
