lol AFC allocated 2+2 spots for Iran, yet didnt bother to organize the draw and seeds so that clubs from the same country would not play against each other in the play-off round. So essentially it isn't 2+2 anymore, but 2+1. Absolutely disgusting. I wonder what they'll think of next to screw Iran once more.

Isn't Iran the only nation with 2 playoffs spots though? Such a law would be exclusive to protecting Iran.

Ridiculous that an Uzbekistan team is in the east zone. Firstly defeating the claimed purpose of splitting the AFC into two halves (travel). Now Gamba, Adelaide and probably Pohang have to go to fricken Uzbekistan.

So really AFC isn't splitting into 2 halves, east & west. They're going 17 western clubs & 15 eastern clubs.

Well, it's better than last time when a Qatari or Emirati team had to travel to Australia as well.

with Uzbekistan and Aussie team, teams of this group have to travell way a lot. It is really hard group.

Anyway, Uzbekistan team has more hard time of travelling 3 times to fricken East Asian nations(and Australlia) while East Asian teams only need 1 time to Uzbekistan. Similar disadvantage often happens for Big East Asisan countries in WCQ when most teams are from West Asia , though.

Are you out of your fcking Arab mind?

So what if it's exclusive to protecting Iran? The policy makes a lot more sense than without it. But I bet anything that protects Iran is unlawful to you, right?

A much easier method would be to allow Iranian teams into the second round immediately. Or one in the second round and one in the first round.

I'm wondering how the Iranians both got first round picks?

It had to be done. There are 17 West Asian teams and 15 East Asian teams. How are you going to split that evenly?

Well AFC did give 2+2. As I have understood, that indicates 2 direct birhts with the possibility of 2 more through playoffs. That is the amount that was allocated to Iran in the competition, but with the two Iranian teams facing each other eliminates that possibility, which is why I question it. In draws "protection" rules, in some cases, are applied to serve the cause that certain teams are not facing each other and I feel it should have been the case here.

One thing that actually is exclusive to the Iranian teams is that they have to go through two rounds. But hey tough luck. Thats the result from the draw, so shit happens....I guess...
    *sigh

I understand the anguish. I think a fair way to resolve the draw would be to guarantee one Iran team to be in the second playoff round or even both in the second playoff round.

Or even a better solution: GIVE QATAR 3+1 BERTHS LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!

For future ACL's, or at least the next one, CSL should lose their 0.5 spot and just have 3 places. Give the 0.5 spot to another nation who would like it. Poor form that the 4th CSL team is doing this.

    Says the Japanese

They shouldn't be forcing professional clubs to take part in a mostly semi-professional tournament. Iran is guaranteed to have one club in the AFC Cup. IRAN is GUARANTEED ONE CLUB in the AFC CUP, AND possibly MORE. WHAT. THE. FCUK. is the AFC Cup?

Also, they shouldn't have such skewed distribution of clubs. Lioning stated possible AFC Cup participation as their main reason for forfeiting. If Pohang wasn't one of the clubs involved in the playoffs, would they have quit so willingly? I can understand why they want to value the quality of the league, but at some point [among top leagues], the level of success and the quantity of achievement have to top the level of the league for distributional differentiation purposes.

Name one Japanese club that would willingly participate in the AFC Cup. You couldn't if your life depended on it.

There are people in this thread claiming the need for big names in AFC Cup for the sake of bridging the gap and sportsmanship. If bridging the gap and 'sportsmanship'--whatever this means--were such important factors on sending Champions League quality teams into a second tier tournament, then shouldn't Japan and Qatar, the two best leagues according to AFC, be sending clubs to the AFC Cup as well? Shit, if you two are so great you should serve as ambassadors to AFC's bridging the gap project. You can start by each sending five clubs to the AFC Cup.
