The Fox Soccer website is saying Del Piero wants to come to MLS. The teams that are after him are Seattle,Chicago, and the Galaxy. If Becks doesn't stick around or if Donavon goes to the EPL permanetly I'd love to see him in LA. Although to tell you the truth he would be more popular in Chicago or New York. But we shall see.:)

Too old. 37 years old. If we are going for an old Serie A legend I say we go for Totti (35)

Keane and Del Piero up top sounds like the slowest pairing

I don't think this is a big enough Becks replacement. Yes, I'm greedy. But I think it's true. I expect AEG to go for someone a little younger with a bit more longevity.

LA is cursed ground for Italian soccer players. Don't you guys remember Baggio 94? So ironic that the greatest single performance at the world cup since Maradona was trumped by a defensive-minded catenaccio playing brazilian team. Big difference from 70, no?

+1. My guess is that for the lead DP position, AEG want's someone who can sell Galaxy branded merchandise or help attract a suitable jersey sponsor above everything else. On an absolute scale in America that is still Beckham. However, assuming he is not available, I believe that means someone with name recognition for the very casual soccer fan. IMO, AEG's would want someone like Wesley Sneijder (who I know is unavailable). I don't think Del Piero comes close to fulfilling this type of requirement.

I'd prefer Chelsea surplus like Drogba or Anelka over Del Piero - too old. At least with Anelka the team wouldn't have to worry about him leaving for international duty.

what if we could do this with Drogba? Would be a diamond midfield but Donovan has shown in the past he can do a lot of work tracking back helping defend.

[LINEUP-4-4-2]Drogba, Keane, Convey, Donovan, Juninho, Franklin, Dunivant, Gonzalez, Leonardo, DeLaGarza, Saunders[/LINEUP-4-4-2]

Too forward heavy, ideas, thoughts? It relies on signing Juninho, reloaning Leonardo and buying Convey but I think it's VERY possible with selling Barrett and Ricketts.

If Beckham leaves, I think this works better as I am not that wild about Convey. He had a great 2010, but was pretty mediocre in 2009 and 2011.

I coulda swore the Don's first order of biza'ness was no more W0P's in MLS.

Nothing is more irritating than that totally italian "Pray-Handing" they do when whining about fouls, or not getting a diving call they have been practicing all week for.

Beyond that, the pure laziness, the essential bad mouthing back to the euro media, and pointing out how talentless american players are to US media.

All that makes me want hoards of italians in the league pronto.

I really hope LA does not sign anyone over the age of 33.

Honestly, I think it might be best if we don't sign any high profile Euro stars. Just gives the league a bad perception. Sign someone decent, but not someone just because of their name. Someone like Montero from Seattle. I think he is a really good player but isn't that well known.

Or better yet, sign a high profile Mexican player. That would really help boost the club's following.

I could care less. If they bring a good brand of soccer to the league and help us get better, then I don't care how many people call it a "retirement home."

Use Henry as an example. When he came over here people were saying exactly that. Now? Oh, he still has something to give, he's a competitor, blah blah blah.

Same goes for the DPs in Toronto.

Now, there is an age limit, you do want some longevity. But I would take Drogba in a heartbeat to this league. Same with Anelka.

Those guys that are truly talented and WANT to play here help. They help train others, they help bring eyeballs, etc.

We have a highly recognizable Mexican - his name is Rafa Marquez. He was a stinker. He doesn't represent the whole though.

EDIT: And note what those DPs end up saying: "Hey, this league is more talented and harder than we thought. I had to reassess." That's a positive.

Go to New York. I don't think he will be that effective for us.

We could use Nesta right about now, really.
