Enough about Bolivia! Let's move the discussion to this thread.

Last team seen at practice: Romero; Zabaleta, Burdisso, Fernández, Clemente Rodríguez; Sosa, Braña, Gago, Guiñazú; Messi, Higuain.

Fernandez, Braña, Guiñazu, Sosa. My lord!

At least Micho appears to be out.

Our midfield dominated, yet hes overhauling it instead of just fixing Demichelis. I liked Zabaleta and Clemente, Burdisso is meh but better than Demichelis. Sosa did nothing ugh...

Just as I posted this ASF started this thread. This is a rumoured line up. Obvious Sabella is running scared:

    ----------------------Romero-----------------------

    --Zabaleta--Fernandez---Burdisso---Rodriguez--
    --Sosa---------Braña--------Guinazu------Gago--
    -----------------Messi-------Higuain---------------

Fernandez fine but is this going to become the Estudiantes XI ? Old players who wont be there in 2014 ? Is Sabella so fearful for his job he wishes to play three defensive midfielders ?

I can see he wants to shield the defence and allow the fullbacks to operate by tucking Sosa and Gago in and rely on the counter of Messi and Higuain but this is cowardly.

How exactly does Mascherano rate below Guinazu or Brana ? If they were really top notch they'd be in Europe. Both struggled in the domestic friendlies.

Gago and Sosa out wide ? Neither are wide players. No balance from a Gaitan.

It's maddening. He has panicked and gone back to what he knows and trusts. He needs to realize there are other players outside of Estudiantes.

Someone ring up Bielsa, Pochettino or even Menotti........ They seem to understand the mechanics of football.

Or ask me to manage the side. I would know who to pick and to build for the future and get the team playing to a set of plans and their potential. Really. Say if the players available were fit:

    --------------------Romero---------------------------
    Ansaldi---------Burdisso-----Silvestre------Tagliafico--
    --------------Mascherano----------------------------
    -----------------------------Banega-----------------
    -------------------Pastore--------------------------
    ------Messi----------------------------Gaitan-------
    ---------------------Higuain------------------------

or some other permutations in midfield or upfront to make it slightly more defensive or offensive as required ie bring in Burrito Martinez for his ability to work hard from the front and tuck into midfield or Gago for Pastore with a relatively flat three but Gago given license to roam.

Talent is there in abundance. Yet this coach is making his predecessors look like geniuses with their selections and tactics.

A proper coach would organize the side properly and get it to wake up from it'd bad habits and general malaise.

Who knows we may win on Tuesday but if we lose I think even though Sabella has been in the hotseat for a few games it might be time to jettison him because some of his selections and the way he has set up the side are mind boggling.

As for Messi and Higuain not being Argentina CC is exactly right. It's a stupid argument. For the love of god it;s not about where a player plays his football but who is organizing the side. Tabarez for instance manages to get his side operating effectively.

No need to then bring in spurious arguments about where they play, do they feel Uruguayan, earning too much has made them not care about the national side and other such nonsense.

I wonder perish the thought if someone who is a decent coach took over what heights this team could acheive because these players have skills to match anyone in the world.

I am mystified as to how long this nonsense will continue. Infact as SM said I am almost becoming inured to it. A brief spell of rage and anger followed by acceptance....... :(

at this rate I would much rather have Batista. At least he had an eye on the future and would have approached the qualifications with the world cup in mind.

Do we honestly have to field 3 defensive mids + one headless chicken ??? what are we hopig for a 0-0 :\

Never mind Batista, the time when Maradona was in charge of the NT now seems like a golden period in our footballing history.

    Sosa, dear god, why, why?:(

Messi es un futbolista común y corriente, asegura colombiano Bolívar

Well, I do not think he is totally far off when he is playing for us. Messi needs to step it up and I hope this was shown to him to have a little motivation. Messi scored a great goal in Colombia last time around, lets hope he can duplicate it and lead to victory this time.

Oh my lord!!! Please tell me your joking with this lineup?? WTF is Sabella smoking?? Brana, Guinazu and Sosa in the midfield??? Where the hell is all the creativity supposed to come from?? Are we going to bunker this game and just try to counter?? Gago out wide?? Where's Kun?? Is he still hurt?? Does Sabella understand that this match is a WCQ match and not a friendly. Brana and Guinazu should be in the stands cheering not starting the fu*king game!

I really don't understand how Sabella comes up with this shit. Anybody who looks at that lineup and thinks that's the best we can throw out there is just flat out dumb. I understand this team hasn't clicked and hasn't looked good but just throwing random guy's out there and hoping for the best is not going to solve any of our problems.

I'm scared to watch tomorrow if this is what we're going to roll with.

Messi needs to play out of his mind and Pippta needs to finish atleast 2 if we want to win tomorrow.

I wonder if this "Draw" result trend will continue since Copa
I just checked conmebol table and Argentina is at no.2 despite 1 win, 1 draw and 1 lost

Football fans are always the eternal optimists always believing something better is around the corner.

For me there is no light at the end of this dark tunnel. Not till Grondona and his cronies are removed.

It may be the line up. If it is pfft...

He has lost his marbles. Though there is talk Masche will play at centreback and Burdisso play at right back with Pastore playing behind Messi and Pipita.

Why an earth play someone again out of position ie Burdisso at right back then ?

Last time he played there against Holland in 2006 he struggled. What exactly has Zabaleta done wrong ? Infact over several games he has been the best of the defenders and actually prepared to attack unlike Sabella's lovechild Rojo and of course Estudiantes OB club.

If they fail to get a goal in first half, I think they will be doomed in second half against 10 man wall defense

Is Aguero doesnt start because of injury or being left out again?

There is talk about the return of Coloccini, which many of the european based posters have called a clown in the past.

Personally I've always liked him and I applaud his return.

    http://www.ole.com.ar/seleccion/alla-aca_0_591540870.html

The last coming out of Argentina's camp is that Masche WILL NOT be playing CD (bad news) and will be in midfield.

Someone in AFA is definitely in control of the way this team lines up. It's just too obvious at this point. Too many nonsensical moves. Pekerman let us know who really sets up the teams, now we are paying the price.

Also, the above article, mentions Grondonas desire to have more local players on the team. Limiting the European based players to only the Top 10.

This would either force players to stay home, or opt out of La Seleccion.

All hail the glorious leader. This clown knows everything about corruption and deceit but sod all about football.

No doubt the move to have more domestic players would be to put them in the shop window. No doubt his fingers would be somewhere in the deal.

Perhaps Malagas owners persuaded him to have Dimichelis included.....:p

I have been doubtful of Colocinni in the past and he did make many mistakes but he does seem to have matured.

Silvestre also desperately needs to be called up.

If Coloccini plays again for La Albiceleste it can only be a positive thing.

Worst case scenario he's just another defender being tried out and doesn't provide the leadership some of us think he can bring to the team but he will still be an asset to the defensive line compared to the CB's so far fielded by Sabella.

Best case scenario you will have found the perfect 'caudillo' of the back line.

Between now and June, the next round of Qualifying, we should have at least tried our Colocho and hopefully Tino Costa on the Senior "A" NT

I have never been a fan of Coco the Clown, BUT, he has is having a really good season, and given that we are not exactly blessed with world class defenders, he should get a call up. Now that is something I never, ever thought I would type.:D

Sad to say but these days, regardless of who the opponents are, I hardly ever fancy our chances to win. That applies more so away from home. The best I can see us getting is a draw.
