    CONCACAF SECOND STAGE
    11.10.11 - Haiti : Curacao - CLARKE (LCA)
    11.10.11 - Trinidad & Tobago : Barbados - BOGLE (JAM)
    11.10.11 - Suriname : Dominican Republic - WARD (CAN) [Fletcher/Clark/Navarro]
    11.10.11 - Canada : Puerto Rico - LANCASTER (GUY)
    11.10.11 - Antigua & Barbuda : US Virgin Islands - MATTHEW (SKN)
11.10.11 - El Salvador : Cayman Islands - ALVARADO (CRC)
    11.10.11 - Bermuda : Guyana - ANGELA (ARU)
    11.10.11 - Panama : Nicaragua - VENTURA (SLV)
    11.10.11 - St. Kitts & Nevis : St. Lucia - SKEETE (BRB)
    11.10.11 - Guatemala : Belize - PENALOZA (MEX)
    15.10.11 - Grenada : St. Vincent & Grenadines - WILLET (ATG)

And the wealth continues to be spread around. Lot of new names that have never had a qualifier. The Bermuda/Guyana game is about as big as they come for this matchday and it's handled by a ref from Aruba; not sure I understand the thought-process behind not using the top guys (almost) at all this round.

Its huge for these countries to get an extra six games. A lot of extra income for their program.

Exactly. These are akin to that final round of UCL qualifiers where the minnows try to get to the group stage. UEFA brings in their top guys for those matches. Unclear why CONCACAF wouldn't follow suit.

Brian will not officially comment either on the reasons. Though my take is that they are doing it for referee development purposes.

As the title of the video indicates, Peter Green of Australia might have set a World Cup record earlier today:

    BUT HE GOT THE BALL!

    Well done Mr. Green.

Short of someone like Atkinson or Dean, that would probably be a yellow in England, especially in the first minute.

    11.11.11 - Antigua & Barbuda : Haiti - PINEDA (HON)
    11.11.11 - Grenada : Guatemala - BRIZAN (TTO)

We start to see some of the more familiar names in CONCACAF on the penultimate matchday for the round. This might be Vergara's last international match, as I don't think there are assignments for him in December. Way too early in Africa for these assignments to say anything, as they appear mostly regionally-based. Asia chugs along with essentially the same pool of officials, though interesting that Liu of Hong Kong gets what is now a really big match as the Saudis almost must have it at home.

Yes, the last international match for Vergara and the second-last international match for Navarro. He will be refereeing next week Costa Rica - Spain, along with Fletcher and Clark. The initial appointment was Navarro - Vergara, Fletcher, so both Navarro and Vergara could end their international career together in a match involving the world champions, but Vergara could not make it.

Referees from the Persian Gulf area getting a workout on Tuesday. That trip to Pyongyang for the Japan match is a big one for Shukralla.

    CONCACAF SECOND ROUND
14.11.11 - Cayman Islands : Dominican Republic - MATTHEW (SKN)
    14.11.11 - Barbados : Bermuda - MORENO (PAN)
14.11.11 - Puerto Rico : St. Lucia - WILLETT (ATG)
    15.11.11 - St. Vincent & Grenadines : Belize - THOMAS (JAM)
    15.11.11 - Grenada : Guatemala - ANGELA (ARU)
    15.11.11 - Haiti : Antigua & Barbuda - TOLEDO (USA) [Strickland/Boria/Petrescu]
    15.11.11 - Trinidad & Tobago : Guyana - MEJIA (SLV)
    15.11.11 - Canada : St. Kitts & Nevis - CERDAS SANCHEZ (CRC)
    15.11.11 - El Salvador : Suriname - SANTOS (PUR)
    15.11.11 - Panama : Dominica - VAUGHN (USA) [Gansner/Quisenberry/Jurisevic]
15.11.11 - Curuaco : US Virgin Islands - LEGISTER (JAM)

Once again, a couple of the more familiar names are present. This is the final matchday of the round and the Haiti and Trinidad matches will likely be huge, with qualification hinging on their result.

Two Americans appear, with Toledo getting the big one and Vaughn getting a nice trip to Panama, as that group is already determined. The teams are interesting. I think Vaughn has used that crew before, but I don't think Toledo's is a grouping we've seen--either in MLS or on the international level.

Really not sure why Moreno is needed on the meaningless Barbados-Bermuda game, but perhaps he needed a vacation.

Everything still very regionalized here, with no high-profile names that I recognize.

Interestingly enough, many of the middle eastern referees listed are unlikely to use the term Persian Gulf with the exception of the referees from Iran (former Persia). The referees from the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, UAE and Bharain) would probably call it the Arabian Gulf rather than the Persian Gulf.

    Good point on the Gulf.

Just dawned on me that Toledo's assignment is really odd, given it will directly affect who the United States plays in the next round. Doesn't seem like a position he needed to be put in, given the options. Swap him and Mejia and you have no issues, yet they both still get big games.

Seriously, MR, is there anything you DON'T know about this? It would be much faster for you to post on topics you don't have either
    1) some unique understanding or knowledge of obscure but relevant data
    2) some unique highly placed source
    Or
    3) both

Yes. The names of the referees doing the six Oceania first round qualifiers that started in Samoa today. But apparently FIFA doesn't know either, because the first match report filed on its website doesn't even list a referee. Unless something changes, these might be six appointments that have to be omitted from the full catalogue. Hopefully they turn up when the mini-tournament is over.

    AFC GROUP STAGE
    Group A
    29.02.11 - Iraq : Singapore - AL HILALI (OMA)
    29.02.11 - China PR : Jordan - VO (VIE)
    Group B
    29.02.11 - UAE : Lebanon - GREEN (AUS)
    29.02.11 - Korea Republic : Kuwait - NISHIMURA (JPN)
    Group C
    29.02.11 - Japan : Uzbekistan - BALIDEH (QAT)
29.02.11 - Tajikistan : DPR Korea -AL DOSARI (QAT)
    Group D
    29.02.11 - Australia : Saudi Arabia - KIM, D. (KOR)
    29.02.11 - Oman : Thailand - TOMA (JPN)
    Group E
    29.02.11 - Bahrain : Indonesia - EL HADDAD (LIB)
    29.02.11 - Iran : Qatar - IRMATOV (UZB)

Group A is totally decided, except for who wins, which doesn't matter too much. Group B has everything to play for among three teams, so not surprising to see Nishimura there (and Green looks to have supplanted Breeze from Australia for sure now). Group C is decided. In Group D, the Australia v. Saudi Arabia game is huge--the Saudis need a result--so that's a big game for the Korean referee (kind of surprised to not see Irmatov there, but I think he's had that group already). Group E is almost decided... looks like Bahrain could advance with a miraculous turnaround on goal difference.

    02.06.12 - Argentina : Ecuador - RIVERA (PER)

    CONMEBOL Matchday 6

    09.06.12 - Venezuela : Chile - BUITRAGO (COL)
    10.06.12 - Uruguay : Peru - VUADEN (BRA)
    10.06.12 - Ecuador : Colombia - SENEME (BRA)

About a month ahead of time, but the CONMEBOL appointments for June are already out. Several "new" (to WCQ) names, but that's to be expected in CONMEBOL over a two year campaign that needs more referees. Anyway, going forward, now that there is a list announced publicly, I'll try to put those 2014 candidates in bold.

He can't referee in Mexico's group so it was bound to happen once this round. They weren't going to waste him on one of the Antigua & Barbuda games, either. Get it out of the way early.

Oh and thank you, JG. I just went in and edited your post to mark the WC candidates.

Asian assignments will be interesting to watch this round. There will only be four matches on any given day. Yet Asia has 7 WC candidates. And four of those candidates come from one of the ten remaining countries in qualifying, which would preclude each of them from half the matches. Bit of an assignor's nightmare insofar as long-term strategic planning goes. Some non-World Cup candidates are going to have to be worked heavily, which will look odd.
