Well, here we are, a couple weeks sooner than we hoped. The season of missed opportunities and disappointment is over. Whew.
too soon man, too soon lesson of 2011: winning trophies is tough shit. Buying them, though, is pretty doable (Seattle - USOC. Monterrey - CCL. LA Galaxy - SS. MLS CUP TBD)
Trying to be positive here, but I guess this means we get to see two games with Beckerman on the national team.
We just need to stay healthy. If we can manage no serious injuries we can have the SS. All things considered, we finsihed 3rd and are in the Champions League, we finished strong in the playoffs and a few inches could've seen us in another final. No trophies other than the RMC is tough but I'm ok with it. Houston isn't beating LA with Davies let alone without him. I think this offseason should be a search for a new starting winger. Williams has another year or two left but he shouldn't be starting. Grabs is great as our 12th man off the bench. Gil is young and better in the mid. Good thing is Johnson can play either side and no Lefturo should give us the cash to work with. Hopefully we don't lose too much with the expansion draft. Next year is or year damn it, SLTID!!!
true I hope he locks up that position and gets all those euro-snobs on the US boards to realize the guys ability. This is coming from a guy who said KB was the wrong guy when Klinny first called him in, too.
They just beat SuKC in LSP without Davis (not Davies, don't disrespect the hobbit!) Houston is a veteran filled team that will give LA nightmares in many regards. Golden Balls set pieces and crosses suddenly aren't anywhere near as dangerous. Ching is going to give Gonzalez hell. I hope Moffat or Cruz destroys Mike Magee and landy cakes. Hainualt and Cameron v Keane should be really interesting, as well.
Yeah but it's in LA, they're not gonna lose, as much as I want them too. Beckham is playing great and Keane has found his form. I predict a 3-0 LA win.
The season was a seriously a disappointment. No hardware. None. Therefore, IMO, 2011 was a failure. With that said, the team showed tremendous character to find ways to play well without Morales and to finish high enough to qualify for CCL and have a decent playoff run. IMO, Morales isn't completely to form yet, he mostly went away in all the playoff games. It will take an offseason for him to completely heal. There should be some re-tooling for 2012. We know the core of this team, but we know it is aged yet another year, and a tough year at that. It is going to be an interesting offseason and we may see some players leave that surprise us. (Johnson, I just have a feeling...)
Some of you clearly have a hard time maintaining control over your own Johnsons. But that doesn't mean RSL doesn't enjoy and manage theirs well.
Hahahaha...nice. I hope RSL manages their Johnson for many years to come. I hope he's not hard to hold on to.
Johnson will stay. I seriously doubt there is much better out there for him right now. His new deal was a short one wasn't it? Like 1 or 2 years. He'll jump ship after that, but he is staying for a little longer (hopefully).
Last I heard, Johnson still has a little bit of schooling to go at The U. I think he'll be around for 1 more year before getting shipped out, likely internationally.
It looks like Borlave is up for another Defender of the Year MLS finalists for 2011 season awards (Soccer Insider)
Technically this is IN-SEASON news, but some super-mod decided to close that thread. Both Borchers and Olave were again named to the final list of 3 up for defender of the year. i laugh at anyone who says that RSL doesnt have the best central defense in MLS. knowing our luck this year, omar gonzalez will win the award and RSL will be completely snuffed from any recognition this year. god what a shitty year, freaking burn it to the ground and forget it ever happened.
I'll take this years heartburn to 2005-2007 suckage any day. I'm hoping to read about expansion, SuperDraft trades and Garson scouting trips in this thread.
I'd like to see RSL pick up an international slot or two as well. I know it's unlikely, but I'd like it if the Front Office had a little more free-agent wiggle room to work with. With all the wish lists - we should remember that Borchers and Russell were forgotten expats in Europe. That's definitely an angle to track/scout very deeply, because its been a proven source of talent that doesn't burn international slots.
Yes, I agree. The first years with Ellinger were hard to live with, but although we didn't win anything other than the Wasatch Mountain Cup, this is much better than the first years.
Even as a Galaxy hater I have to admit Omar deserves that award. The best defender on the best defensive team in the league (who is also the best team in the league)? Pretty easy pickings...
anybody else find it really ********ing ridiculous that Nicky isn't a finalist for the goalkeeper of the year? Or that Kreis isn't up for COTY? http://www.mlssoccer.com/awards/2011
I know in theory it goes against "the team is the star" mentality, but is there any f.o. discussion about bringing in a true D.P.? I know Sabo is on a technicality, but I am talking about a true D.P.; preferably one that has some years left on his body and not just moonlighting at RSL...
giovani dos santos giovani dos santos giovani dos santos please please please!!! The right DP for RSL in SOOOOO many ways
