Obviously every situation is different because, KPB has always kind of been a selfish player. And there has always been speculation that he was just using the Ghana team, however this can always happen when you natrailize any player. I brought this up because i know there was speculation about Chandler in the past and because it seems like the US team recruits a new German player every FIFA date. Hopefully their intentions are true.

AC Milan's Kevin-Prince Boateng quits Ghana national team
The AC Milan midfielder, who played for Ghana at the 2010 World Cup, said that physical demands of playing for both club and country at a high level are taking a toll on his health.

AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has decided to quit the Ghana national team, the country's FA has confirmed.

The FA announced on its official website that it has received a letter to that effect. Officials have refused to comment on the sudden turn of events, but a statement revealed that a decision is yet to be taken.

According to Boateng, the physical demands of playing for both club and country at a high level have taken a toll on his health.

The player also explained that in order to remain healthy and avoid injuries, he has consulted his doctors and family over the matter and has decided to take the decision to excuse himself from national duties since he is on a special training regime that he has to interrupt in order to honour national team invitations, a statement added.

Boateng chose to play for Ghana before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he scored against the USA and gained fame as a Black Stars player with fantastic performances in midfield.

This is what I refer to as "getting Friedeled". We never should have naturalized that young Cockney Brit lad.

do you know what "naturalized" means? It is not possible to naturalize someone who is born a USA citizen, as most of these guys are.

Not only am i black but i in no way titled this thread with a pun in mind. I really didn't notice it until you pointed it out. But i apologize if i offended anybody.

Players using national teams to further their career but not really caring about the team or country at all. And leaving them high and dry when the countries need them, after they achieve their desired goal. Im sure that all of us would like to feel as if the imported players actually atleast care about the team.

I understand what you mean and i probably used the wrong diction to describe what i meant. Because KPB could probably have been a Ghana citizen before he joined the team as well im really not sure. (As im sure some sure some of you know for some countries just having one parent from the country makes you a citizen). What i meant was importing players that werent born in your country, have never been to your country and probably never really thought about the country until a football opportunity arose. I understand that these players could technically be citizens but its naive to think that they feel the same way about the United States as someone who was either born here, or lived here for part of their life.

You didn't they were yanking your chain. ;)
Yeah, I agree. If the player really is excited about playing for the US it's OK. But I'd hate for someone to "use" the US just to play in a World Cup and then bail right afterward.

People love to bash David Regis around here. But first of all, he played really well for us from 1998 through about 2001, when he started to go downhill. Second of all, even knowing he was going to be a backup in 2002 (I think he was the only non-GK who didn't play) he still went to SoKo and was never a negative influence within the team. His career was coming to its end and at his age he probably could have used the summer off, but he didn't do that and never complained.

Klinsmann and Rongen are very VERY aggressive about bringing in these dual-eligibles. I wonder if we're going to get burned with one of them.

One of my best memories of '02 was after Landon had buried the Dos in the Ultimate Dos a Cero, one of the first guys to make the celebratory pile up was David Regis, with one of the biggest you-know-what eating grins on his face I've ever seen...

Its probable. But that's no reason to worry.

As for the Germans getting looks in the USMNT, I'm impressed with their dispositions. They generally have the sense of purpose and toughness we like in our American athletes.

I think that what we're also seeing is that many of these young players with American passports saw something they liked in the US team and they realize that the US is a viable destination for them to expand their careers and experience high level international competition (including the World Cup). Thats a great thing. Even Germany relies on dual citizens (Boateng, Ozil, etc). Same goes for Italy (Rossi), France, Holland, etc, etc.

That the US is joining this club is a great thing. We just need our Zidane to show up. :D

Yes, eventually we will get burned but the positives are clearly outweighing the negatives at this point.

    One point here.

Ozil is a 3rd generation German with Turkish roots. When you start getting into the 3rd generation in a country I stop with the "rely on dual national stuff". The guy is German who could have played for Turkey.

On a related, yet unrelated, note, I've never liked KP Boateng. With the story of joining Ghana after Germany snuffed him and his ,arguable, picking and choosing of matches to actually play for Ghana after the world cup, he always seemed like he never cares for anything but himself. I think that's the difference between him and say someone like Chandler. But I've never met him or anyone else so I really have no say.

"Hmm... my top-level European club pays me 100,000 Euros per month. That's over a million per year. The national team of the country where I was born never called me, so I opted for the country of my dad. But I've never been there, except to visit. Now, my top-level club is demanding that I focus on my club career. 100,000 per week, or representing the colors of a nation to which I barely belong... choices, choices...."

PS: The moment Milan sends him to ride pine again, expect a sudden change of heart and the guy will beg his "beloved Ghana" to take him again. Frankly, if there is one thing Ghana does not need, is another attacking mid. They got about seven or eight top ones right now, faster and younger than KPB.

It is absolutely scandalous for anyone born outside the good 'ol USA to even contemplate playing for the national team of The United States.
