Not really. Minneapolis is a ploy to get more funds for a pointy ball stadium, Orlando doesn't have the financial strength in it's ownership group although it's drawing incredibly well for third tier. Two cities further along are Las Vegas and Detroit, Detroit has the stadium but a rather crazy plan for it and Vegas is close to sealing a stadium deal with even local politicians commenting positively on it. Although we don't know anything about what a Vegas group would look like aside from the guy driving the stadium deal.

To be honest when we spoke in June it didn't seem like there was a tangible proposal on the line from anywhere. Atlanta was dead, the news was reporting Detroit making moves and he shot that down. I'm starting to wonder if 20 might actually be a bit of a fight to find ... with the relative high cost and the need for an SSS and so on. I might be more inclined to ask him if NYC2 has competition from anywhere at this point ...

I wonder if Garber has had any thought of eventually asking either of the 2 eventual "unsuccessful" investors for NY2 if they would be interested in buying out RB at NY1? My guess is that if Garber thinks that all 3 investors are qualified, he will "find" a team for each of them.

Why would he do that? While you guys may not like Red Bull and may be opposed to them owning a team, what exactly have they done that would make Garber want them to get bought out? They have spent money on big name DP's, they spent money on getting a top class stadium done, and they are working hard on getting a practice facility done. From a league perspective, they are good investors and owners as long as they stay committed. Why sell it to another group of individuals who may ultimately be like Stan Kronke? I know a lot of people get hung up on the fact that they see RBNY as purely a marketing scheme. If you get past that for just one second you will see that they are better owners than at least 3 or 4 ownership groups right off the bat.

A lot of people for the MLS2NYC movement criticize the Cosmos for not making statements and press releases. However, it appears that the investors that have the most "ins" and most likely to get into MLS haven't said a word. Why are we so angry that the Cosmos went public? And why is it a good strategy to publicly bash them when we want to convince the more powerful investors to help our cause? After FCNY and Cosmos, it would appear that not contacting us would be a good PR strategy. And maybe that's what these guys are doing.

Wait, why are we angry that the Cosmos went public, or didn't go public?

No. That maybe not going public is the better PR move for whatever potential ownership group there is.

They were trying to use their PR and brand recognition to force garbers hand. In there case - with a brand like that - with history and the big stars - its better to be out in peoples faces - because you can grow an interest (which they have done).

however, there seems to be the issue of them finishing the job. Either way - seems like they pumped the brand up and lay down the groundwork for a club to either 1) get garber to accept them as is or 2) if he doesnt - find someone with deeper pockets to buy the brand off them.

Either case - I have had recent conversations with their front office and they are aware that all the fans anger was self inflicted.

They made promises - and they look in trouble of being fulfilled - they deserve the fans being rough on them - their only redemption is to get the job done and prove the fans wrong.

Depends what your motives are. Part of the Cosmos motivation is to use the brand to move merchandise, so they don't have a choice but to go public with things. The other NY2 investors don't have that motivation, so they don't need to go public. So, from a MLS franchise viewpoint, the Cosmos being public probably isn't the best strategy, but they don't have any choice if they want to move merchandise.

That's all well and good that they admit that but can they tell us what the plan is , we know they want MLS but what is the big problem, there in the cross hairs now of everyone who supports them and of everyone who has turned against them, so why not come out and tell us what they need to do , what is the hold up, who actually owns the team, and if you get that info what are the new owners planning to do. As for Garber's other potential bidders who are they and why do they think that if they buy the team we will support them without hearing what vision they might have for the club. All this in house crap is BS with MLS because ultimately it's the fans that will make the venture successful not them.

if this is garber's way of getting media attention and trying to hype NY2 for MLS it's a big fing FAIL!

Well first, their may be good reasons for a potential group of investors not to go public. It really depends on the circumstances. The Cosmos felt, and I think rightfully, under their circumstances that they should go public.... I mean, it appears that there is very little there there without Anomoly and the PR strategy.

So they engaged us, and we engaged them. A nice symbiotic relationship. But if you're suggesting that the fans should step up and cheer when they need you, and sit down, shut up and make nice when they don't, I think that's a mistake. The truth is, and I mean it with the utmost respect for the Cosmos FO who have been largely good to us, that we got attention from them when we were critical than when we made nice.

That's how the world works, bro.

Thx , i also want to know where the podcast people are and the journalists that cover soccer in NY/NJ area are on this , they need to dig deep hear and find out what's going on. It's a nice thing to cover the buzz about NY 2 and The Cosmos but please go back to your investigative side and find out who hold the rights to the Cosmos who did PK make a deal with. This stuff should be attainable some how. Was there a fly on the wall at RB Arena that can tell yus who the hell was in Garber's booth. Come on people i'm calling you out.

We need the Jack Bells of the world to step up - not bloggers or podcast people - real professionals who can get to the bottom of shit - Jack Bell has an inside track to the Mos - he needs to do a piece

1 doubtful.. Too much to clean up with Mets to even think about moving into a new sport anytime soon.

2 I'm not convinced this rumor is real.

I'm just hope it's not the worse owner in all of sports who is in on this,, Mr James Dolan.

The thing that I'm the most curious of, is if an ownership goes in and gets the nod, will the Cosmos hold on to the brand? Will it make any sense for them to do so, especially with such confusion up top? Will they sell?

And? That has nothing to do with Garber and the board of directors wanting a new owner, which is what the OP was talking about. Again, you guys may not like RB and that is fine (and part of me understands). But from a business standpoint (which is one of the things Garber and the board worry about) they are a good addition right now.
