R C, you think the LA Kings might be good enough to challenge the Sharks this year for the Pacific title?

I'm kind of impressed with their squad right now.

I don't know if it matters, since as any Sharks fan should know, all that matters is the playoffs. But I think the Kings have gotten A LOT better, while the Sharks have gotten a little bit better. So because the Sharks were ahead of them, I'd still pick the Sharks to win the Pacific, but in a 7 game series, even money.

Yeah a shut-out is a great way to start the season, interesting to see Brian Campbell get 2 assists and 30 minutes of ice-time...I guess he'll be the key D-Man for you guys this year.

We'll be fine on D. Kulikov, Jovo, Campbell, Garrison. But who's going to score for us? Of the whole roster, there's only ONE 30-goal season (Booth, 2008/09). Where's the scoring going to come from?

And please don't bring in the example of 1995/96 Panthers - they had Ray Sheppard. Who's going to be the Ray Sheppard this time around?

I am preparing to see a glut of 2-1 games.

If Fleischmann is healthy, which hasn't been the case for several years, he can score 30.

Let's hope so, because the he hasn't shown that ability. His top NHL season he scored 23 in 69 games (which only translates to 28 in 82 matches if pro-rated). He had only scored 30 as a Hershey Bear (AHL)

You'd have to get him to play 82 games first!

Oilers should be really exciting again, I just love that young core of talent that they have. Nugent-Hopkins scored the tying goal yesterday vs Pittsburgh.

TSN's top 10 most skilled players.

    1. Pavel Datsyuk (according to big dutch he was the landslide winner by the tsn crew)
    2. Sidney Crosby
    3. Alex Ovechkin
    4. The twins
    5. Rick Nash
    6. Alexander Semin
    7. Patrick Kane
    8. Evgeni Malkin
    9. Iyls Kovalchuk
    10. Bobby Ryan

Nash? Lol. Kovalchuk and Malkin behind Kane? lulz. Where the shit is Hossa and Havlat? And how is Semin not at least #2?

No idea who Ryan is but I already know that he doesn't hold a candle to any Russian player. :)

Bobby Ryan is a good player, but if you are looking at just stick skills, there is no way he is in the top ten. Mike Ribeiro should be on any list of top skilled players.

There are four N. Americans on the list and no Czechs or Slovaks? Ok.

Yeah Ribeiro is a little girl, but that's doesn't mean he isn't slick with the stick.

Honestly the talent level of Slovaks and Czechs isn't very good right now. I'd say Gaborik and Plekanec are the two best, and Plekanec is a two way center.

Their stick handling is basically on par with Russians.

    My list

    Datsyuk
    Crosby
    Martin St. Louis
    Sedin H.
    Sedin D.
    Semin
    Kane
    Nash
    Ribiero
    Jussi Jokinen

Assuming by skilled we mean pure puck control.

Here is my test. How easy is it to get the puck off them?

Datsyuk- never, ever, ever going to happen. Even after 13 bottles of beer and an all night bender, Datsyuk is never turning the puck over.

Crosby? Never ever going to happen

    The Sedins? No

Semin? Hit him a few times and he won't want to touch the thing.

Well in that case Peter Forsberg is the most skilled player by far to have ever played the game of hockey.

Semin has arguably the best wrist shot in the world too, is that not a skill? ;)

It is, but that brings a whole new element into it.

Peter Forsberg goes into the top 10 no question. But you don't have to be big and strong like he was to keep the puck away from people. Lemieux was big and strong, but also talented. But Gretsky was tiny, and if you ever line him up, you'd kill him. No one ever lined him up though.
