Since there's one for Fox Soccer I thought I'd throw one up for es*n.

I watched the first half of the US - Ecuador match but had to go to a yoga class (yes, I'm a guy and I do yoga) , I came home and started watching the Mexico - Brazil match in minuet 15, for over 10 minuets I watched that stupid bottom line for like a starving hawk in a rodent factory , just waiting, waiting, waiting, to see the US - Ecuador final score. You'd think, since they just finished broadcasting the game and were showing another soccer game, and this is the US, the country es*n is located in, maybe just once in 12 minuets but NOPE.

And they even had a special "soccer" category on the bottom line, during this time, --- all this said was the Euro teams that qualified for the Euros. That's all.

They can scroll about Theo Epstein's putative new job with the Cubs ever other minuet and how Alicia Sacremone has an achilles injury (she's the girlfriend of Brady Quinn doncha know) but not the score of our national team's game that just finished within 1/2 hour on that very channel while there is another soccer game airing right then and there?

    I just don't get it. I really don't.

I watched maybe 15 minutes of first half of Mexico v Brazil and I saw U.S v Ecuador score on bottom line.

You don't see the score on the TV, but go to the internet to complain. Strange. And recording the rest of the game wasn't an option?

    1) Look the score up on the internet.
    OR
    2) Record the rest of the game and watch when you get back.

    Those two options weren't possible?

John Harkes broke the world record for patting himself on the back:

"Ian, this is what I talked about earlier!"

Let's not let them divide us. We must be united against the abolition of the ticker in-game.

    Fight the real enemy.

My favorite was John Harkes when Darke asked him about 100 caps.

You had ninety some caps too right John?

Yes... well in my time we only had a few caps a year..... and .... and sometimes you had to stay with your club..... you know it was really important to stay with your club back then sometimes........ so..........

Well there were a few awkward silences which is where I put the ........

After that Darke just sort of changed the subject and started calling the play.

Anyone else notice the other day Harkes said something about "Decisive decisions"?

    WTF?

Harkes was as bad in that game (LA-Chivas) as I've ever seen him. It was like that out of the gate -- almost like he'd been accidentally dosed on drugs or something. Just really, really off.

He did say something at halftime about his computer having been stolen. (I know that when I lost an important hard drive a few months ago, I could barely function at work for a few days, I was so rattled.)

It's pretty hilarious how the SportsCenter anchors botched nearly every single name related to soccer.

I remember when Juan Agudelo scored a goal and it was on sportscenter, they said his name so wrong it was hilarious. It wasn't even close. I can't even remember how it went because it was so off. They did it 4 times in a row before one of the more informed sportscenter anchors finally corrected the lady who kept messing it up.

Plus there was the good ole.........Bob Bradley's team was eliminated by (some country we never played) in the quarter finals on the 2010 world cup. Not only did we not play the country they mentioned, we never made it to the quarter finals. They repeated this same mistake on 5 separate live sessions of sportscenter.

I'm telling you soccer fans in this country are like in a parallel universe when it comes to sports. It's the biggest sport in the world and most of the mainstream sports anchors know more about golf, tennis, nascar, wnba and in some cases lacrosse than they do about soccer.

I suppose Indy Car fans might be feeling the same way this week. Sure a myriad of people went shooting from the hip about what went wrong in Vegas.

But my favorite was Linda Cohn commenting on Ronaldin-ho's goal against Chelsea in 2005. That was back when they used to put all the soccer highlights (usually 1 on CL nights) in the Top-10 at the end of the show.

Right before the NYRB vs Union game, the people on the previous show final words before MLS broadcast starts......."Up next, MLS soccer"................."Who watches soccer?"

Something along those lines, lol. If you DVRed the game, rewind to about 20 sec before the MLS programming started.

Well we won't have to watch them diss the World Cup anymore. And I'm sure they're going to mail in 2014 coverage now :)

From what I can tell around the web so far, you and Fox executives are the only ones putting a smiley face on this news today...

thanks, but they were clearing showing moving pictures from Birmingham, and by Birmingham I mean the one in England, not Alabama.... which is also pronounced B-i-r-m-i-n-g-h-a-m

No - that's not true. I think this is good news too.

ESPN has a history of hating soccer in America.

OK, five hours since my previous post, I can still say with confidence that there are now just two of you non-Fox executives who seem happy with the news.

To remain happy about it, you'll have to answer to more than "what is the soccer-hatred history of network X." You'll have to address questions such as "what does this mean for MLS," "what does this mean for soccer's current and future profile on America's biggest sports outlet," "what does this mean for the broadcast availability of U.S. matches," "what does this say about FIFA's concern for the domestic U.S. scene," etc. etc.

Prioritizing some past "hatred" by ESPN seems a bit misguided at this point, to be honest.

Yes, I must mis-guided because I want it moved to network that celebrates the sport of soccer rather than on an network that has a history of deriding it & outrighting hating it.

    I must be nuts...

Just for the record - the coverage on Fox/ FSC has been far from perfect and sometimes laughable but still prefer it to ESPN....
