Pretty poor ratings. You need to use datasport or Gazetta if you are going to update this thread. Goal.com's ratings are woeful.

    Euro 2012 - Le pagelle di Italia-Spagna

    http://it.eurosport.yahoo.com/10062012/45/euro-2012-pagelle-italia-spagna.html
    ITALIA
All.

Hmm, how to stop the World and European champions in their tracks? With police raids at your training camp, a slew of injuries, a heavy defeat in your last warm up game and a last minute change of formation of course! Rating and slating the Azzurri performances after an impressive group opener in Gdansk.
    Italy player ratings v Spain
    Gigi Buffon: 7
Almost lobbed by Fernando Torres late on, but otherwise did the little he had to do well, saving a Cesc Fabregas shot and dashing out to nick the ball off Torres' toes. Confident.
    Leonardo Bonucci: 5
Important block from Fabregas capped off a decent first half, but struggled as the game went on, hacking down Andres Iniesta. It was his over-hit pass which led to the Spanish equaliser. Erratic.
    Daniele De Rossi: 8
An end of level boss. Just when La Furia Roja appeared to have tricked their way past everyobstacle standing between them and the Italian goal DDRintervened - again and again and again. Immense.
    Giorgio Chiellini: 6
Important interceptions, silly fouls, rampaging runs upfield, the quintessential Chiello performance. Effervescent.
    Christian Maggio: 6
Faded somewhat after a sprightly start, but looked much more comfortable in his natural role as a wingback. Atoned for his errors against Russia. Competent.
    Thiago Motta: 6.5
Combined graft with guile and did the simple things well – short passes, tackles, positional play. Almost became an unlikely hero when his header was parried by Iker Casillas on the verge of half time. Dutiful.
    Andrea Pirlo: 7
One contribution of note but what a contribution it was, gliding past Sergio Busquets and skimming a pass into Antonio Di Natale's path for the opening goal. Elegant.
    Claudio Marchisio: 6
Not quite his usual self, but got through a lot of work and twice forced Casillas into action, once in the first half and once in the second after an awesome slalom upfield in spite of his aching legs. Energetic.
    Emanuele Giaccherini: 5
Making your international debut in an unfamiliar position, against the World Champions and four years after playing in Serie C2, can't be easy, and Giaccherini certainly didn't disgrace himself. Sadly though losing Fabregas for the equaliser is what we'll remember it for, and it could cost him his place. Unfortunate.
    Mario Balotelli: 4.5
Started well enough but bolstered the arguments of those who consider him a liability by collecting a needless booking and dilly dallying when through on goal. Little doubt he deserved to be substituted. Careless.
    Antonio Cassano: 7
Went close twice in the first half, roamed the channels and created chances for others. His substitution surely more to do with lack of fitness than dissatisfaction with his performance. Difficult to believe his career was at threat six months ago. Reborn.
    Antonio Di Natale: 7.5
Four years after the agony of his missed penalty against Spain in Vienna and two years after his international career had seemingly ended in Johannesburg, Toto got his revenge, stroking a smooth finish past Casillas with his first touch. May have won himself a starting place. Redeemed.
    Sebastian Giovinco: 6
Not particularly prominent after replacing Cassano but showed his class with a lovely clipped pass to set up a chance for Di Natale. Promising

    Italy player ratings v Ireland

That's how the cookie crumbles...after all the 'biscotto' controversy bad boys Antonio Cassano and Mario Balotelli sent the Azzurri to the quarters. But there were any eejits against the Irish in Poznan?
    Gigi Buffon: 7
The custodian will have been tempted to update his Facebook page, so untroubled has he been for the majority of this tournament, but 'Superman' flew to the rescue with a terrific parry from Keith Andrews’ free kick just when things were getting very nervy indeed. Steadfast.
    Ignazio Abate: 7
Boundless energy. Always willing to support the attack, but it was in defencewhere he impressed most. Aggressive when he needed to be aggressive, calm when he needed to be calm. Attentive.
    Andrea Barzagli: 6
Thrown into a fierce battle with Kevin Doyle after two weeks out nursing a calf injury. One or two clumsy moments, but largely acquitted himself well in the air and on the ground. Sturdy.
    Giorgio Chiellini: 6
Like Barzagli suffered a few nervy moments when the Irish attackers ran at him, but had gone a long way to redeeming himself for his blunder against Croatia when his hamstring went early in the second half. Unlucky.
    Federico Balzaretti: 8
At the heart of most of Italy's best chances and a constant threat down the left. Faced with UFC style defending from the Irish, Balzac didn't get a petted lip, but did get a burst one, courtesy of John O’Shea's elbow. Defiant.
    Claudio Marchisio: 5
The most ineffective we've seen him in Poland. Didn't seem to relish his new role on the right side of the midfield three and his only attacking contribution was a volley skewed wide. Muted.
    Andrea Pirlo: 6.5
By no means a vintage Pirlo showing - he gifted the Irish a goalscoringopportunity after less than 10 seconds – but it seems the man can't help but be decisive, setting up Cassano's opener with a wicked in-swinging corner. Significant.
    Daniele De Rossi: 7.5
Tenacious DDR. Like Balzaretti he relished the physical challenge the Boys in Green posed, launching himself into tackles and blocking shots, but also showed his cultured side with some excellent long passes. The Azzurribenefited from his return to midfield. Indomitable.
    Thiago Motta: 5.5
Neat and tidy with his passing, decent work rate, but if he's a trequartistathen Pirlo's a rugged centre half. At risk.
    Antonio Cassano: 6.5
The man who was reduced to tears by the last 'biscotto' incident at Euro 2004 helped make sure there was no repeat with a rare headed goal. The odd flash of genius, but relinquished possession too readily. Mixed.
    Antonio Di Natale: 7
Good players make good strike partnerships and despite having a combined height of about four feet Di Natale and Cassano struck up an intelligent and effective pairing. If not for last ditch Irish defending he would have had a hat trick. Canny.
    Leonardo Bonucci: 7
Unfortunate to be dropped for Barzagli after his performance v Croatia and proved that point after replacing the injured Chiellini. Thwarted Irish attacks with his feet and perhaps more significantly thwarted a Super Mario meltdown with his hands. Responsible.
    Alessandro Diamanti: 5.5
A rumoured starter, the maverick midfielder ended up coming off the bench to collect his second cap. Won some free kicks but otherwise struggled to assert himself. Frustrated.
    Mario Balotelli: 8
Sealed Italy's qualification with a simply sensational overhead kick in the90th minute but did a lot of other good work in his 15 minute cameo by running at the Irish defence. Better as an impact sub, it seems. Spectacu

De Rossi and Balotelli were definitely better than Giaccherini at the Confederations Cup, though I'll say he played very well indeed.
