After being shutout in his last game after opening up with hattricks in consecutive matches, the Cal State Bakersfield redshirt sophomore forward is at again.

As I type this, he has two goals mid-way thru the second half Thursday night against Cal State Northridge, giving him 8 goals in 4 games.

Who knows, by the time you read this, he may have scored again.

Northridge tied it up, so he's gonna have a few extra minutes to try to make it three out of four (and it'd be a game winner too)

Finished with just the two goals, keeping up his two goals per game average...

    Why, yes he did.

And, all of 33 seconds into the second half and Gyasi has scored again. No word on the assist yet.

    Ha!:D

As I type this, Bakersfield is outshooting Gonzaga 19-0 (zero!) so don't be surprised if the kid scores again.

EDIT: And while I was typing this post, he scored AGAIN!!!

What's the season record for hat tricks?

Two pretty amazing - at least, to me - stats about Gyasi.

*So last year Zardes scored three goals.... all season. (Along with 6 assists.) This year he has three games with hat tricks... in six games!

As I type this, Bakersfield has scored 13 goals and Zardes has accounted for 12 - 11 goals and an assist.

So what you are saying is he is still slacking off those two goals per game average (unless he gets a 4th goal today).

Seriously though, 11 goals in 6 games (and three hat tricks) is impressive.

Yeah, and his assists are way down from last year, too. Kid needs to stop being a ball-hog!

Indeed it is. Gotta be one of the Hermann front-runners, though the East Coast voters may hold CSUB's strength of schedule against him.

Could anyone who has seen him play describe his characteristics, how he's been getting his goals, etc.?

If you go to youtube, there are some videos uploaded by Touchline Video of CSUB games. You might seem some of his skill there. Good luck.

Thanks for the link. This looks like the only one from the current season:

Hat tip to Gardes, making TopDrawerSoccer's Team of the Week.

Couldn't agree more with him not getting some Hermann love, but a big game against Fullerton this week could help get him some exposure.

what's more impressive is how poorly the defense played.

Yeah, riverside had a rough start, losing two of their first three with the combined score of those two being 9-2... They seemed to have tightened it up since with a 5-0-1 record in their other games and outscoring opponents 12-3 (against pretty weak competition though).

The real test for how much they've improved comes early as they kick off big west play with UCSB at riverside Wednesday night, but that's all a discussion for another thread.

I doubt all 11 goals are mostly bad D.

So is Zardes not going to be entering the MLS draft? I saw this recent post from Ives and it made me wonder:

Or is it that those other forwards are all rated ahead of him?

I think like most of us, Ives is assuming the Galaxy will sign him as a homegrown player and thus he won't be in the draft, whenever he turns pro.

That, or he'll go to Europe.

So has he made an announcement as to whether he's going to turn pro or stick around in college for another year? I had to wonder after reading this quote again from the CSUB coach:

He's living in a dream world if he thinks he'll get much more than that by STAYING in school.

The only way to get more from MLS is to get an offer from abroad.

Further, MLS has a well-earned rep for being vindictive and lowering offers to players who turn them down the first time around. So, if Zardes' comes back a year from now, especially sans a Euro offer, he may just find an offer lower than what was on the table this time around.

They may keep the 100K offer on the table for Gyasi, but unless he goes and gets some offers from abroad he can leverage, he's not gonna get much more out of MLS.

Now, if he's staying in school for the education, fine. Nothing wrong with getting a degree. But if he's returning in an attempt to get more money down the line out of MLS, that's just not gonna happen.
