if we're going to do that we have to start by realizing the "nightmare known as domenech" was also media fueled. i have never seen any reason to believe that lolo will be any better, but neither any worse. the piling up of the ************s our sports media always keep nice and dry is just as insane as the messianic welcome blanc received two years ago.

my my, the obscenity filter here is sensitive! above, the word for a bundle of dry twigs and branches used to make fires means exactly that, and nothing else.

Mathieu played very well for Valencia against Barcelona. Set up the two goals (should have been three but Soldado missed a complete sitter).

Seems to play well whenever I see him. Versatile and a great attitude. Seems perfect for a role at least in France's squad? Maybe I'm missing something

I've wanted to see Mathieu get a call up for a while now, especially when Evra was serving his time away from les Bleus. He's a good player and plays up the wing providing some pin-point crosses. I hope he gets a chance.

edit-And speaking of that game, Abidal just showed us again that he really is overrated. He's fortunate to be surrounded by world class players.

the 4-4-2 used against the US disappointed Laurent Blanc but he'd like to try it again when he has other players available:

I'll come back to this formation when i have someone capable of playing in the middle, offensively as well as defensively. you know who i'm thinking of? Diaby."

Now his plan is to give the keys to a beanpole who has looked good about 15 minutes in 15 matches... very obviously, he has gone insane.

Would make more sense to try to add more offensive muscle to the midfield in the 4-3-3. Maybe a Nasri-M'Vila-Martin kind of thing.

But Diaby is still certainly better than A. Diarra.

Funny, but I think most people on BS would agree that Diaby is pretty effective for Les Bleus, when he's not crocked that is.

well, for me he had a couple of extremely promising showings in friendlies before the WC that made many think he was the savior of our midfield (a credit he inexplicably still benefits from). and in the draw against uruguay that i felt would be a result to build on i thought he was excellent.

from the first minutes of the mexico match i saw i had been a fool on both counts. he turned overnight into a six foot four creampuff who passes the few balls he wins right to an opponent or into touch, when he's not lighting the wet fuse on 30 meter shots that the seagulls only laugh at.

with the exception of a handful of minutes here and there (and sarajevo, that was good) he's shown me very little since to raise my opinion of him. un très grand dadais.

i agree that he's been inconsistent but the same could be said of Gourcuff. but Blanc is correct that he has the talent and potential to play well in the "vieira" role, attacking and defending.

and yes, he was excellent against uruguay.

inconsistent i can accept, but i think he's been consistently awful; you couldn't put together another 7-minute tube of good work from him after the final whistle of the uruguay match. against mexico he was a spectator, and has been, in my book, our worst player in several of his matches since then. infuriating. he seems to have the size to do the vieira thing but is just too much of a pansy. the only match where he was of any use at all was against BHZ when he was practically absolved of defensive duties.

Maybe he thinks that he needs to avoid getting injured as much as possible and doesn't really take any risks any more. I hope that's not the case.

On 15 March 2012, it was announced that Abidal would have to undergo a liver transplant because of his previous liver problems.

feel better Abidal :( at least we have Jérémy Mathieu to fill in his shoes:)

Wow Benz, that is really disgraceful. I really have to say he's taken a notch down in my eyes. Multimillion euro footballer at Madrid insists his family chip in to help his grandmother that help raised him?? Hopefully this is enough to shame him in to some action.
