India to Bid for FIFA U-17 Men's World Cup 2017,and other important decisions taken by AIFF The Executive Committee of the All India Football Federation presided over by Mr. Praful Patel, the President of the All India Football Federation which met at the Udyog Bhawan in New Delhi, took the following important decisions on September 22, 2011. a. The Committee approved the overall Grassroot and Youth Development Programme which was created in conjunction with FIFA including setting up of the four Regional Academies in Kolkata, Bangalore (Goal Project), Delhi/NCR and Mumbai/Navi Mumbai. b. The Committee also authorised Mr. Kushal Das, the General Secretary of the AIFF to start negotiations with Rob Baan for the position of the Technical Director. c. The President also mentioned that India may make a bid for hosting the 2017 U-17 World Cup. d. AIFF’s Marketing Partners IMG-Ril (who were part of the meeting for a while) made their presentations on the Broadcasting Partners for the forthcoming I-League. A likely announcement on the Telecast Rights will be made by the end of the month. Around 70-75 matches are supposed to be broadcast live as compared to the earlier 50 odd matches. e. The Committee authorised the Emergency Committee to take a decision on the National Team Coach within the next few days. f. Meanwhile, the Committee approved the increase in Total Prize Money in I-League from Rs. 1.1 crore to Rs. 1.5 crore. The Commitee also ratified Asian Football Confederation’s recommendations to setup an I-League Committee which will have a representative from each of the 14 Clubs playing the I-League. g. Besides, the Executive Committee ratified the decision of the Emergency Committee of not relegating AIFF’s Developmental Team Pailan Arrows from the I-League. h. The Committee also ratified that I-League Players (other than foreign players) cannot play more than 40 domestic club matches. i. The AIFF also granted an annual sum of Rs. 50 lakh to be distributed between the State Associations to organise Football Developmental activity in their states. The decision for releasing such money would be taken by the newly formed Committee for evaluating funding criteria for the states in line with the Local League and Developmental activities being carried out. j. The dates and breaks for future tournaments stay as such: I. The Super Cup will be held at the Ambedkar Stadium between Kingfisher East Bengal and Salgaocar SC on October 18, 2011. II. The I-League kicks-off at the Salt Lake Stadium on October 22, 2011. III. The SAFF Cup will be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi from December 2 to 12, 2011. The Preparatory Camp for the tournament will be held from November 21-30, 2011. The I-League won’t be given a break for the SAFF Cup and Clubs will be playing 3 rounds without National Team Players. IV. The Indian National Team would be travelling to Johannesburg to play an International Friendly against South Africa in the first week of January 2012. V. The National Camp for the AFC Challenge Cup which is the gateway to the Asian Cup 2015 would be held from February 13-29, 2012. In that case, the I-League would be given a break from February 13 to 23, 2012. The AFC Challenge Cup is slated to be held from March 3 to 22, 2012. k. The Committee took the decision that in future all International Matches concerning National Teams or Clubs must be under the aegis of AIFF. The Committee also decided that it was important to honour the Contractual Obligations with IMG-Ril whereby no third party agency would be allowed to host such International Matches without the explicit approval of AIFF and IMG-Ril. l. The Committee also approved the regulations framed for hosting International matches which comes into effect immediately and which will be circulated to all State Associations. m. Ah, finally that bit of vision we are looking for. But why is it that the AIFF decide when the Super Cup will be played, jsut weeks before it takes place but think they can have the vision for something so far away? Anyway, just reading the U17 page on Wikipedia it states that India and Jamaica are the only two nations so far to show an interest. 2015 is in Chile, so every chance is that it will go East but I feel Africa will want a say in things especially since the UAE would have hosted in 2013 maybe forcing India back another couple of years. It woudl also have been a long while since Europe would have hosted. Some smaller nation like a Norway or even a Cyprus would probably be more favourvable if they ever bidded for the event.

India U-16 squad for AFC U-16 Qualifiers A 23-member Indian squad will be travelling on September 28 to Tashkent to play in the AFC U-16 Quafiliers. India have been clubbed in Group C along with hosts Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Bahrain and Krygyzstan. The team have been practicing at Conscient School at the Heritage School Ground in Gurgaon since September 14. Besides being appreciative about the practice facilities, Coach Thomas Joseph said, “We have a good team and we have practiced hard for the event. Uzbekistan are the hosts and stay the strong contenders. Does anyone know the revenues of I-League clubs? http://www.stadiumzone.weebly.com has revenues of all sports clubs with a revenue above 20 million euros, but the only clubs from India that are included seem to be some IPL cricket clubs. How about Mohun Bagan and East Bengal FC? They have huge fanbases, but not that much money I guess? How's that possible with so many fans?? If the Kolkata Knight Riders can make the list, why not MB and EB? Football and cricket are both very big in Kolkata.
AIFF Appoint Rob Baan as TD The All India Football Federation has signed a two-year deal with Mr. Rob Baan as the new Technical Director of the AlFF. Mr. Baan would stay responsible for drafting an Indian Football Masterplan. He was earlier involved in similar capacity with the Australian Football Federation. The All India Football President Mr. Praful Patel welcomed Mr. Baan’s appointment. “This is definitely the most important initiative undertaken by the AIFF jointly with FIFA and OSF for grassroot and youth development of Indian Football. I am confident that the appointment of the Technical Director along with establishing Regional and Elite Academies will go a long way in taking Indian Football to a new level.” Mr. Kushal Das, the General Secretary of the AIFF feels this is a step in the right direction. “We are very pleased with the appointment of our new Technical Director Mr. Rob Baan as part of our master agreement with Orange Sports Forum. Mr. Baan will be responsible for structuring the development plan jointly with FIFA and laying the philosophy of Indian football for the future.” “AIFF aims to establish four Regional Football Academies and one Elite Academy by 31st March 2012. These Academies will be developed with Technical Support from FIFA, Philips and PSV. Mr. Baan will work closely with AIFF/FIFA, PSV and Philips to get the best possible structure and design of the Academies to achieve optimal results as quickly as possible. I-League Committee meeting 14th October 2011 Decisions The I-League Committee Meeting took place at All India Football Federation Headquarters, ‘Football House’ on October 14, 2011. The meeting was chaired by AIFF Senior Vice-President Mr. Subrata Dutta in the absence of AIFF President Mr. Praful Patel and Sajjan Jindal, Chairman I-League Committee. The four-and-a-half hour long meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere where all members present contributed and extended their co-operation to arrive at solutions on each and every issue raised. The meeting which was attended by I-League members comprising of Club Representatives, Executive Committee members and CEO, I-League Mr. Sunando Dhar, reached upon the following decisions unanimously. i. It was decided that the Functional Committees will have representation from I-League Clubs. ii. The Committee stayed convinced on the decision earlier taken by the Executive Committee that AIFF’s Developmental Team Pailan Arrows won’t be relegated from the I-League. iii. The Committee clarified to the Clubs that it’s their responsibility to organise their respective Home Matches. The Clubs stay free to tie-up with either an Event Management Company or the State Association. iv. The demand of the Clubs to enhance the organisational subsidy to Rs. 1 lakh would be circulated to the members of the Executive Committee whereupon a decision would be reached. v. Allowances towards Boarding and Lodging for the I-League Teams and Match Officials have been raised by 15 percent. vi. The Clubs also requested IMG Reliance (AIFF’s Marketing Partners) to give them more Marketing Opportunities for the enhancement of their revenue earning. vii. The Clubs have been given the permission to take on ground sponsor activation rights, eg, presence of cheer leaders, fans meet and greet player before a match, etc. They have also been allowed branding of Bibs of ball-boys, stretcher bearers and photographers. viii. Some adjustments have been made in the I-League Calendar to accommodate the following matches: a. International Friendlies against Malaysia on Novmeber 13 and 16, 2011. b. International Friendly against Zambia on November 29, 2011. c. SAFF Cup from December 2 to 11, 2011. d. Match against South Africa in Johannesburg on January 7, 2012. e. Match against Bayern Munich in New Delhi on January 10, 2012. ix. It was decided that Clubs would be allowed to register players till the end of the second transfer window, February 15, 2012. x. It was also decided that a Core-Committee would be constituted by AIFF from the members of the I-League Committee with five representatives each from Clubs and Executive Committee members to address various issues of I-League as and when required during the course of the tournament. Although it was strenuous meeting all members were happy about the decisions taken and the Chairman thanked and appreciated all the members for their co-operation and support. What is the opinion on having foreign based players within the international setup? I ask this due to the few British/Indian players playing professionally in the UK at a decent level and the inevitable rise in players of Indian origin coming through the Youth ranks in English clubs. Obviously the highest profile player would be Ipswich's Michael Chopra, who has represented England at numerous Youth levels but has fallen down the pecking order in recent years as he has got older. Having said that he is a proven Goalscorer at a high level and is probably one of the better players plying his trade outside of the Premiership. I know players have changed their National allegiance despite playing for another country at Youth levels, how this works I'm not sure but if it was at all possible could you see this happening and would Chopra be welcomed over players based in India? Another player who would be an asset is former Leicester man Aman Verma. A big, strong midfielder who has shown a lot of class on the ball despite still being a young player. He has shown good composure on the ball, as well as vision when passing the ball, however he uses his size and strength to help out defensively effectively too. He has vast Football league experience at a number of levels and is now one of the standout players at Blue Square Premier side Kettering Town. Certainly a player who looks to have a solid future as a professional in the UK. Again, he is another player who could make an impact within the Asian International Football scene but would a call up be possible or indeed wanted? There is bound to be more and more players of Asian origin coming through the ranks of UK clubs, some have already come and gone, the likes of Harpal Singh who started out at Leeds United but eventually faded out prematurely and some others such as former Coventry man Rikki Bains who have played at higher levels but now find themselves playing in the lower ranks, surely the chance of International Football could have only enhanced their careers?

Infact Chopra and Netan were called-up for Qatar Friendlies,but they were not ready to give-up their British passports hence dropped out.
That seems like a very awkward ruling, kind of cutting off their nose's to to spite their own face's.
