Well, there's bound to be so much on him, I thought the young fella could have his own thread. And just to start it off- here's Fozzie. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/craig-foster/blog/1069680/Kewell-a-true-champion
The man handled his interview well on the AFL Footy show. Sam Newman was an arsehole as usual. Harry answers were cool. I think he even shut the panel up for a bit.
Sam Newman is just hanging on to what is left of his media career and trying to be "controversial" in doing it. If Harry is given a fair go, he'll be fine. One thing people don't know about him is he has a very dry and amusing sense of humour. If we get to see that side of him, the Melbourne media will fall in love with him. However, typically, and predictably, being an AFL state, there were always going to be the Sam Newman's.
Sam Newman is one of the great footballers of the Geelong Football Club. He has been retired from playing for 30+ years. He has had a long media career commencing while he was still playing so again, 30+ years. He is on the panel of the AFL Footy Show which is hugely popular in Southern Australia. I rarely miss it. The Grand Final Footy Show is eloquent testimony to its popularity as it sells out Rod Laver Arena in hours. Sam Newman plays the part of the arrogant, opinionated and politically incorrect old fart. The audience love hating him and this persona has proved very successful for his career. Whether you love him or hate him, when you have a career like his to show to the world you will then be qualified to evaluate his media skills.
To provide some background to Harrys appearance on the AFL Footy Show; it was a Media Coup. I have watched this Show for years and never, never, ever heard a word about Soccer, Socceroos or A-League ... ever! There is not a round ball or square pitch to be seen at anytime. I was astonished and can only marvel at Harrys Public presence to have been invited on. He's the Man.
Obviously it was a media thing. I thought they did a WC special... I don't know whether the AFL footy show did that, but I remember a mate of mine saying they interviewed Sheree Murphy( his wife )back a few years ago. I might be wrong.
It was the second time I can remember soccer being mentioned. The first time was when Melbourne Victory were not yet formed and it was rumored that Collingwood (who were having a pretty bad season) were going to have a stake in the club- it was said that it would be the closest Collingwood would get to a victory.
Cockers still manages a dig at 'Arry while just commenting on the Melbourne managerial situation. Still bitter, man? http://www.smh.com.au/sport/a-league/victory-need-coach-with-kewell-touch-20120106-1poh7.html
I don't watch MV every week but in the 5 games I've seen Kewell has been in the top three players for them each time. I think they are getting good value from him. Unfortunately with most of our football journalists in the main stream press they write their articles based on their prejudices, rather than what is happening.
Also, people seriously seem to think he's a high-scoring attacking player, which hasn't been true for the last six or seven years.
