Thought I would give them their own thread. They seem to be stepping it up. From their Facebook page... "Join Boston Victory S.C. Fans and be part of this Club from day one.We are bringing this team to USL Pro. A league with 25 years old existence."
Well, you've gotta admit. They have spunk. At least The Fort has somewhere to go next time KraftOps pisses them off.
Does anyone find it odd that they'd be promoting themselves as joining USL Pro in 2012 when the league hasn't said a single word about it?
ill always be a revs fan, but id rather have a team that plays in the upper echelon of soccer leagues in america (MLS, USL, or NASL) that actually wants to cultivate a supporter culture. ill probably split my time 50-50 between the revs and the V's next season. depending on how horrible the revs treat us next season will either see a lot of people staying or leaving from the fanbase..... in my opinion
so i cant wait for the Revs to play BVSC in a exhibition game. hopefully a local rivalry will come out of this
Where are they playing in Quincy MA? Is there a nice 5000 seat stadium some where there? Veterans Memorial Stadium? At least Revs fans will be used to watching soccer on turf. I saw on their website the staff. Sergio Taborda — Director of Soccer/Head Coach/Owner Salim Kassouf — CEO/Owner Meaghan Hohl-Taborda — Events Planner/PR Jonathan Fonseca — Promoter/PR Do any of these guys have some history with MLS, USL or pro soccer?
Not really. Harvard stadium is the best choice for Boston, even with its large capacity. It traps sound very well, good mass transit options from both sides of the river, has a press box, and is a neat-looking, historic facility. Nickerson field at BU used to host the old Breakers and MLL Cannons, but the sight lines suck from half of the seats due to the low angle of the front of the stands. That's where the amateur team plays in Lawrence, which might as well be in Nova Scotia. I'm thinking they needed a field for the tryouts and had a hookup in the soccer community. The coach/GM/owner was also with Mass Premier Soccer, which is based in that general area if I'm not mistaken. The gridirons are the major issue with any field less than five years old. I believe the turf at Harvard has the gridirons sewn in. If not, the Breakers couldn't/wouldn't get them removed so I highly doubt a team like this could. That's the stadiums major drawback for me. The owner has a few corporations registered as unclassified without websites. That doesn't look good. A team like this needs a sugar daddy willing to lose some money every year for a long time. This is especially true if LA remains in the division and the team has to fly to games. EDIT: He belongs to a Saudi Sports firm: http://subulsports.com/contact.html
I'd like Nickerson Field, only because I'd get to visit the remnants of Braves Field. I could handle Harvard too, since I refuse to ever drive anywhere near Boston again. Hellooo Amtrak. Didn't the New Hampshire Phantoms play a couple of games in Lawrence in 2006 trying to test the market so to speak? I remember Richmond played them somewhere in Mass on one trip. http://www.uslsoccer.com/stats/2006/117205.html We did.. Wow I was right for once
Chowda, I wasn't suggesting Quincy and the Vet Memorial. Victory already said they were going to play in Quincy and I just mentioned the only place it could happen.
At least the try-outs are at Veterans Memorial Stadium https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=214704771902387
There's a Municipal Stadium in Quincy, my Lawrence comment was wrong: http://wikimapia.org/1488505/Veterans-Memorial-Stadium Doesn't look too USL Pro-ish From the facebook wall: So who knows. Maybe they try and see if they have any shot playing in Quincy and then move to a place like Harvard in the future.
Doesn't look any worse then the LA Blues 2nd home at Norco College, or Dayton's home stadium. Or Charlotte's, or even Wilmington's really even thats a decent place. It's definitely better then where Pittsburgh plays
They also played at BU, BC, Harvard, Providence, and New Bedford during their three seasons. Quincy was where they played during scheduling conflicts.
Wonder why they switched to PDL? The original Facebook posts stated... "BVSC is preparing to enter USL Pro. High level soccer is coming to Boston. Join our Team and bring your Friends. Be one of the "Braves" September 21 at 11:37am · "
