Correct me if I am wrong but Turkey were the third place team from the previous WC (WC2002), the Greeks were the reigning Euro champs (Euro2004) and Denmark had gone to every WC since 1994, I think. We won that group outright, something that even Papa could not do. In fact, we were the first European team to qualify for WC2006 (except the hosts, Germany, of course). I would look down on that qualification success.

In fact, it was under Blokhin that Ukraine had played the best game I've ever seen us play - 3:0 in Istanbul.

Fair enough points, g74. I may have played down our qualifying competition.

On a different note, does anyone know much about Andriy Pylyavskyi, now of Maccabi Haifa? He starts at CB for the Israeli team that won the league last year and is now in the final stages of CL qualification. He may be something of a late bloomer, as he never played for any of our youth teams, but now seems to be coming on quite strong. Here is a feature Imscouting did last December before he moved to Israel. http://http://http://www.imscouting.com/global-news-article/Andriy-Pilyavsky-21-year-old-defensive-starlet-on-brink-of-Maccabi-Haifa-move/12406/[/URL]]
Anyone know why he hasn't been capped yet? Seems worth a punt, considering what we fielded in the back 4 against Sweden.

This is an interesting guy. I don't know anything about him. But, if he's really as good as the scouting organization thinks he is then he certainly made the right move. He will certainly have a better chance to impress people playing for one of the top Israeli sides than for Nyva.

P.S. The link does not work, I had to clean it up. This is what it should look like: LINK

Where is Edmar? Why isn't he here? We give a 31yo a cap in the first place and then drop him.

Also Konoplianka is out of form - get him back to the league level first so he can get some form back.

Kalynychenko ??? Is he going be a part of Euro 2012???? If he is there then he can't play unless his mate Nazarenko is there as well.

I don't see our NT showing anything with this team.

Yea Edmar not being included is pretty dumb. Also where is Fedoriv? We call him up like once every year lol, though he was disappointing imo in the Cyprus Cup, thought he was better than he is. Shevchuk is in decent form right now but he's only getting older and I don't see him holding that form when Rat comes back from injury, so will most likely be out of form next summer...We realy need Mykhailyk and Chygrynsky healthy in the next 2 months and stay that way until Euro's and get lots of matches, if that happens we can move Rakitsky to LB and we would have a really strong backline. Very worrisome about Chygry though...he's been out like 5 months, that's about as long as an ACL injury jeesh...

Lol @ Kryvtsov and Kalinichenko! Where is Hudobyak?? Good to see Butko get a shot though..

Also Stepanenko is a long term casualty as well don't forget..

Supposedly this guy plays in Germany and said he wants to play for Ukraine. He's been capped for the German youth team and Blokhin said he likes what he sees.

Agreed on Butko, hope he gets some time on the pitch. I have nothing against Kryvstov though, I think he's going to be a very solid CB. Considering how many injuries we have at that spot at the moment, I like the call up.

    LoL

Kryvtsov is the young cat, nm I agree with you. At first I thought it was Ischenko lol. I like that call up, better than bringing Cheburashka back probably. Kryvtsov is a typical physical Ukrainian CB bully with decent speed, which is good cause we have a few technical guys in Chygry, Rakitsky and Mykhailyk hopefully he can complement them. He doesn't have much skill with the ball and has zero left foot passing confidence from what I saw at Euro's.

Im actually happy Edmars not in the line up. But still really disappointed with the squad Blokhin chose.

I think a lot of real YKPAIHIAHs are хеппі that Edmar is not in the squad.

But I remember well, a few years ago Blokhin making a few not so nice comments about the foreigners playing in the Premier League and then he goes and plays a 31YO naturalized Чухраїнець! Must of been real hard to sip his favourite drink after that game against other синьо-жовті....

    WTF

We can't say we even know what "the team" is.
