Jonathan Tannenwald, the Philly.com primo soccer writer (@thegoalkeeper on Twitter) has these nuggets of info that should tick you off beyond belief:

The semifinal will NOT be broadcast live in Philadelphia or the Delaware Valley. It will be the only playoff game Fox Sports NET carries. FSC only shows the quarterfinal and final live. Locally, the only time Philadelphians will get to see the game is when Comcast SportsNet runs it on tape-delay at 11PM Saturday night.

Chew on that incompetence. And maybe Tweet @womensprosoccer as to why they agreed to this.

Just out of curiosity, which channel reaches more households nationwide? I know the regional FSN in NC is part of the standard cable package whereas FSC is only available through a more expensive/larger package.

eta: I'm talking about TimeWarner cable. No idea what Comcast does.

And is there a webcast like w/ the FSC games?

They'll show the semi on the WPS website, but that's a hit or miss proposition on its best days, IMO.

Seeing as how they are playing in the Union's stadium, I would think they would want to do their best to get max capacity...and kind of like the NFL, games are blacked out unless the game is a sellout.

The game IS being shown live on Fox Sports South here in the Atlanta area...so maybe it is a regional blackout?

I think the Final last year was not live either if I am not mistaken, but there are no black out rules.... PPL is only expecting 2000 fans because it is Women's soccer

FSC will rebroadcast it on Sunday when the usal time slot is 6-8

Otherwise I have to pay 5.99 to add to Dish network

FSN reaches more households than FSC by a large margin. The problem for some is since each region controls its own programming, it doesn't have to show the game live if it doesn't want to in case a local sports team is playing.

Here is L.A. the game will be live on Fox Sports West.

If you have a sports package on your cable/satellite you usually get 20-30 FSN channels from around the country., thus you should be able to see the game live.

In the New York metropolitan area, the semi-final will be on MSG+ and MSG+HD (this is what Fox Sports NY is called now) at 4pm

isn't this a good thing for the local team's attendance?

there's nothing surprising or unusual here. local teams that have the ability to do so repeatedly block out local live broadcasts of their game.

i know the other side of the argument is that it's no way to publicize your league. but when every little penny helps in the survival of your team/league, it's easier to do the blackout.

This is why I started an earlier thread about what channels the playoffs would be on. I was worried about this.

If you have cable or satellite with a premium package, we know you can find at least one Fox regional channel out of the billions and billions you get with that. But I've been wondering how many people may NOT have a channel like that in their package. Also how many of people's favorite sports bars may or may not get it.

See, where I am out in Los Angeles, it'll be carried by Fox Sports West so we're fine out here. That's the Angels and Kings station. And if you have Prime Ticket (Dodgers, Galaxy and I think Lakers) then you also get FSW. So any sports bar will be able to show the game.

But MSG+? (not even the regular MSG). Or out-of-region Fox channels? A bar that you regularly go to may or may not have a package that includes that.

My advice: start calling your favorite sports bars now to see if they can get the game. (Have them go to that channel and see if they actually get it. Just because it's listed on their channel selector doesn't mean they actually get it) And here is where the league should be helping their fans -- but that requires having a staff, doesn't it? Social media like Facebook and Twitter should help, too -- let's hope some people in the know make use of it.

    Someone said above:
This is not useful advice. I've been to sports bars that were nice enough to try to put on something for me but when they turn to that channel they find they don't have the ultra-premium package to show it. They only get 1 million stations, not the 2 million package that includes that channel.

Sorry I should've made this clearer: MSG+ is a basic cable channel (it is New York's FSN). They bought it out in 2008 (or maybe Fox bought MSG, regardless it's "co-owned now) and just renamed the station MSG+. (For anyone really interested, the FSN New York wiki (which redirects to MSG+) has more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FSN_New_York)

It's channel 48 on Time Warner. Sorry for any confusion.

So FSN is showing the Super Semi-final but it's just being blacked out in Philly which isn't bad since that should help attendance. Maybe they can get 5,000+?

FSN is in a lot more homes than FSC so that's good. The final should be on FSN too!

So if I was to walk into a bar in boston (or a bahh, or whatever they call them there) what channel would be the most readily available one in the area showing the game?

Out of curiousity. And also I would like to be able to answer that question if someone, on some forum, actually asks that question.

    Connecticut? MSG+?

    Rochester?

The FSN affiliate for Boston is NESN, no listing as of now, probably a Red Sox conflict.

The only Boston listing I can find for Saturday is the replay on FSC on Sunday.

Thanks WookieMonster and SocfanDan - so I guess it's mainly people in Boston Red Sox territory that may have a hard time watching -- but most of them are in denial/withdrawal mode right now anyway.

Of course, with the right satellite package you can probably get one of the other regional Fox stations or MSG+ or Comcast Mid Atlantic (Washington DC area). But fans in New England will have to look carefully to get the HD broadcast. Or settle for the webcast.

Are you sure NESN is still a FSN affiliate? I wasn't able to find anything indicating that they were. In any case, it looks like they are showing some other programming before the 7pm Red Sox game. Comcast SportsNet New England appears to be the local FSN quasi-affiliate, but they seem to show only a subset of FSN programming. And, CSN New England has a boxing match scheduled for that time slot. I did a search of all the local digital cable and FIOS listings but didn't see the match listed. (I don't get cable or satellite anyway, so I've only been watching the webcasts.)

That is how they are listed on the FSN website.

ESPN's Jacqueline Purdy tweeted that she wasn't able to find the channel so she could set her DVR for it. She'll be at the game anyway but wanted to tape it.

I don't know what region she lives in (suspect it's New England) and it's not a big deal for her since she'll be there anyway but I think that's a good example how frustrating it can be in some areas. It's messed up.

Last year, the championship game was on Sunday...Fox Sports West didn't carry the game live. (I live in LA area.) However, one of "sports alternate" channels showed the game live. (I do have Dish.)

Philly game will be shown on FS West live...It will also be on a "sports alternate" channel.

I think you could watch the game live in Philly if you have Dish...I don't know about Directv.
